all in all it doesn't really matter does it, its all he said she said and speculation. whatever mitchell did or didn't do, he still got in a ring and fought which the majority do not have the courage and the heart to do, he was in some entertaining fights, fairplay to the man.

John Simpson's fought just about everybody over the last decade or so too.

Nick Blackwell is only 25 but he has fought Martin Murray, BJS, John Ryder and soon Eubank Jr. That's a hell of a lot of good names for someone so young.

Fucken hell yes, I thought I'd made a decent call but looking at this lists, fair play to those 3, especially Matthews.

Good boxer Mitchell, felt sorry for him when Linares stopped him. That being said it has amazed me over last few days when I've read articles saying he's one of the top 10 british boxers never to win world title...absurd. Decent European level but that's it. At his weight alone Dave Charnley would have stopped him. Even more recently I think Charlie Nash and Michael Ayers would have probably beaten him.

Matthew Hatton was the biggest DOD I ever saw. Kevin Anderson, McIntyre, Kell Brook and any of the names that were circling the top of the domestic scene for about 8 years.
The only one that he ended up in a ring with beat him by landslide by about 10 rounds, and that was Craig Watson.
It was all IBO belts and the odd shot at a linear champion such as Alvarez  .

He could have earned £500,000 and fought for a world title but he took a risk and fought for a mandatory position to fight Crolla but got knocked out and sent into retirement. Maybe had he beat Terry Frank would have had an option on him but who cares it just means another payday.
Mitchell could have have had a wonderful career, unfortunately he was a chickenheart when it came to domestic opposition.

Martin Murray's record is rather lacking in domestic action, probably not through any particular fault of his own.

Being positive is great, but can anyone think of anyone worse than the ridiculous domestic ducker Mitchell?

When you listed all the names Derry Mathews fought it does seem strange how Mitchell missed so many good domestic fights.

He had some good fights, but he could have had many more.

He could have been much more than he was.

He looked down on domestic opposition, when that is what he should have been fighting to make him great.

He leathered the banger Carl Johanneson after taking a fair beating for 5 or 6 rounds. Not sure how that makes him a domestic chicken now...

Kevin Mitchell is arguably the most avoided fighter in the history of British Boxing. Take a look at this list of fighters who lacked the balls to step in the ring with him:

Alex Arthur, Nicky Cook, Michael Gomez, Anthony Crolla, Amir Khan, Terry Flanagan, Gavin Rees, Derry Mathews, Willie Limond, Luke Campbell, Tommy Coyle, Liam Walsh, John Simpson, Scott Cardle, Graham Earl, Gary Sykes, Gary Buckland, Stephen Foster, Craig Docherty, Jon Thaxton, Martin Gethin, Lee McAllister, Scott Lawton, Henry Castle, Billy Corcoran, Andy Murray, Eddie Hyland, Oisin Fagan, Ryan Barrett & Sean Dodd.

Carl Johanneson, John Murray & Ricky Burns all deserve kudos for sharing a ring with him.

well you say Amir Khan but Mitchell took Breidis Prescott apart, and that was when Prescott was still potentially dangerous.

Horse wrote:I wrote a post in Kevin Mitchell's retirement thread about how many domestic opponents that he didn't fight:
Didn't fight: Alex Arthur, Nicky Cook, Michael Gomez, Anthony Crolla, Amir Khan, Terry Flanagan, Gavin Rees, Derry Mathews, Willie Limond, Luke Campbell, Tommy Coyle, Liam Walsh, John Simpson, Scott Cardle, Graham Earl, Gary Sykes, Gary Buckland, Stephen Foster, Craig Docherty, Jon Thaxton, Martin Gethin, Lee McAllister, Scott Lawton, Henry Castle, Billy Corcoran, Andy Murray, Eddie Hyland, Oisin Fagan, Ryan Barrett & Sean Dodd.
Fought: Carl Johanneson, John Murray & Ricky Burns.
Am I being unfair to Kevin Mitchell?

I was just wondering how many worse domestic opponent duckers there have been in recent years as well as all time.
Are you implying Mitchell is a coward because he fought the dangerous southpaw banger Barroso instead of overachieving ticket seller Sean Dodd?
Let's not forget, if he won that fight it would have set up a big domestic bout with Crolla, which he opted for ahead of a fight with Flannagan for obvious political reasons.

Pretty sure the fight with Khan didn't happen because Khan moved up to Light Welter around the same time as Mitchell moved to Lightweight.

He also called out Matthews several times, only for Matthews to sign a contract with Queensbury.

I agree that he could have fought one or two more domestic names but half the fighters you list aren't even proven at domestic level.

Yeah you're right - soz! In March 2012, 12 years after turning pro (and 8 years after Brook turned pro) they fought. Didn't realise Sheffield and Manchester were that far apart....that's what happens when you go round the world, you end up back where you started.
Oh, you'll want to know what was on the line - it was the WBA InterContinental and the IBF International.....yeah, those things.

Yep fair play to Blackwell, got to give him respect.

Not the same numbers yet but hopefully we will be saying the same about Eubank Jr too as he seems to be now doing it the right way with BJS and Spike (Irish I know) and now Blackwell in a relatively short period of time. I'd imagine if successful somewhere not in the too distant future we will probably see a rematch with BJS, not sure who else after that though at the weight for now domestically.
