What do you think he's hyped to be and what do you consider his true level?
Would your opinion change if he convincingly beat Takam?

PaRker will win this fight I have very little doubt about it.
There is a very very big level difference between Takam and anyone else Parker ever faced, I'd be very surpriced if Parker really already is at Povetkins level. Parkers last opponent even said that the difference between Parker and Povetkin at this stage is that you don't see Povetkins hits coming, so you can't defend against it.
I think Parker's speed and hands are underrated. I think he wins this fight 9-3 or 8-4 if this fight goes the distance.

Yeah a good victory would change my opinion. I just thought he looked pretty mediocre in his last fight against a southpaw journeyman basically. He was getting tagged with counter left hands at will and his footwork was crap I thought. I think he has slow feet in general actually although he has fast hands.

I'm inclined to agree but i haven't bothered seeing much of him as his opposition has been so bad.
The good thing is we should know for sure in less than 2 months. Takam is very good step up opponent.

I think this is a better victory than AJ or Martin will have once a victor is set. Takam is a legit, legit top 10 heavyweight. Martin is barely top 10 because Glazkov was barely top 10.
I can see Takam taking it, but I only lean towards Parker because of his hype. I think this will be a close one. Huge props to Parker if he dominates Takam, though. Definitely, will show that he's a better prospect than AJ if he beats Takam.

Yes, defensively he's shown some weaknesses and his legs seem to be quite stiff. He was getting tagged with shots he probably shouldn't have against Nascimiento (he was rocked too) as well as Williams, so it hasn't been a one off. That said, he does have quite a few strengths (some of the fastest hands in the division, good power/combos/punch variety) and he's very young for a HW, being at a point where I'd still expect significant improvement to come. I suspect that he's not going to be a long-time dominant champion or all-time great, and perhaps he is a hypejob if those are the standards being set by the hype, but I do think he's shown clear potential for being a legtimate top 10 fighter and belt holder.
If he doesn't get by Takam he was never going to be a major player in the Heavyweight division anyway
@gil
I think it depends on how he performs in losing. Takam is someone who deserved a win over undefeated Perez, easily beat Thompson, and was even with Povetkin going into the 9th, so he's a fairly high-level guy and
much more experienced than Parker. If Parker ends up dropping a very close fight I don't think it should be considered a foregone conclusion that he won't be a major player in the future.
Also, it seems like this fight isn't finalized, but that both sides are serious about getting it done.

Yeah true Crusader. If it's a close fight Parker can still bounce back from that. Takam is a solid fighter certainly. Kinda an overachiever a little bit. He's accomplished more than his talent should've allowed him to I think.

The difference between Parker and everyone else in the division is that he is very busy. Busy, busy, busy and very fast hands. I think he is just more dynamic and has the chance to be special. I could be wrong and this is a step up but I like Parker in this one.

If you can name 2 of his last 5 opponents without looking I would be impressed.

I have seen all of his fights man. I go on youtube to watch every single fight of any fight of note when they are not televised. I was watching Parker when he KO'd Frans Botha. Lefty just ripped on his victory over bergman is his last fight. I saw that fight bergman was down at least 3 times and was stopped in the 8th. The other victory in his last five since you asked for it was Meehan. Now Meehan is a name who has been in with some really tough guys we all know that. He KO'd Meehan in the second round. Meehan went the distance with Chagaev. The other three guys I do not know their names I watched the fights but I don't know their names offhand. But their names are not really even important. He beat them easily and I am basing my pick based upon his skill set. I could be wrong but it would not be the first time and won't be the last.

Parker camp studying Takam's defeat for pointers after IBF orders pair to fight in eliminator
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/ar ... d=11596352
Joseph Parker's trainer Kevin Barry has been poring over tape of Carlos Takam following the IBF's decision to order the pair to fight in a world heavyweight boxing title eliminator, and one bout in particular might have caught his eye.
The elimination fight will be scheduled for 12 rounds, and Parker could well need all of them if he is to be successful. The 24-year-old's great strength is his hand-speed and ability to throw punches in combinations.
Takam is unlikely to have faced an opponent as quick as Parker, who is growing in power and strength with every fight, and the New Zealander has yet to face a fighter of the quality of Takam.
The winner will fight either Anthony Joshua or Charles Martin for the IBF heavyweight title.

Saw him 18 months ago and told everyone he was the unknown next big thing. Now he's the most known unknown thing in boxing. And having seen him more and more hes impressed less and less.
Plus he's 6ft 4 with 76" reach
Fury is 6ft 9 with 86" reach
Joshua 6ft 6 with 82" reach
Wilder 6ft 7 with 83 readh
Quite small for HW isnt he

That's why I expect Takam to win, Dillian Whyte fought pretty much the same opponends and KOed every single one of them in less time. Takam is like a massive jump up,even Povetkin had trouble with him. If Parker wins this, then I think it's time to say goodbye to the previous generation called Klitschko,Takam, Povetkin, Haye, name them.

I think Parker still qualifies as a big heavyweight, although he's certainly not a giant - he's a much naturally bigger guy than the likes of Chagaev, Adamek, Haye, Povetkin etc who have all found themselves in the top 5 of the division in recent years. His reach is relatively short for his height, but that is offset by his very fast hands.
As for being less and less impressed, why? His defense definitely needs tightening up, but aside from that, I've been quite impressed with him.

You expect Takam to win because Parker is only 1 1/2 inches taller than him? Strange logic.
Whyte is much more aggressive than Parker, that's why he stops his opponents earlier. I'd favour Parker over him in a fight.
I agree that Takam is a massive step-up for Parker - for that reason I think it's about a 55:45 fight in Parker's favour. Parker will have big advantages in handspeed, athleticism and possibly a smaller edge in punching power, but Takam's experience and toughness could make all the difference.

Good fight, I'm not completely sold on Parker yet, but if he wins this fight well, he would be making a bit of a statement and the Martin/Joshua winner will know that they will have to take their next mandatory very seriously

No lol, they are both quite small and Takam is used to that, unlike Parker, who's used to fight old tall men that should retire.
In Parker's last fight he fought someone who was quite small as well, just like him, and straight away he struggled to finnish the fight, despite his opponend really wasn't that good. Now I expect you to say he was a southpaw, but nevertheless, that fact doesn't make your chin stronger.
