Interesting to see what would have happened if Lewis didn't catch him with that left. Realistically, he'd have caught him at some point and finished it as Frank like always went back into his shell.
Bruno at his peak. Lewis not yet at his and yet a massive gulf between them.
I remember being gutted as a young kid every time Bruno lost.

Lewis - Bruno
9 - 10
9 - 10
9 - 10
10 - 9
9 - 10
10 - 9
56-58 Bruno
Mickey Vann was acting like a bit of a prat during that fight. Terrible language.
Lewis cheated a lot when he was finishing Bruno. Could have had a point deducted.

Re: 52 fight challenge: Week 9 - Lennox Lewis vs Frank Bruno
I had Lewis ahead at the time of the stoppage.
Really good fight. Forgot how good it was.
Bruno started quick but I thought Lewis had the better jab.
He was also a great finisher. Those uppercuts to finish it were sickening.

1. Lewis - close round
2. Bruno - close round
3. Bruno - the only clear round prior to the stoppage
4. Draw
5. Bruno - close round
6. Lewis - close round
7. KO - A great minute of heavyweight boxing. Bruno looked to have got to Lewis when Lennox launched that big left hook that turned it on it's head.
A better performance than I remember from Frank late in his career and certainly not Lewis at his peak. But a solid finish.
Wasn't entirely happy with the way Lennox finished it holding his left hand in Franks face to tee up the right, a bit naughty and had Bruno been hurt at the end of that fight it would have been questioned. Mickey Vann initially broke them up for it then allowed him to go right back in and do the same thing.
Don't think it changed anything as Lewis was on his way to stopping Frank regardless.

Re: 52 fight challenge: Week 9 - Lennox Lewis vs Frank Bruno
Agreed, the majority of the fight was a battle of the jab with both men trying and failing to land the big punches more often than not.handsofstone wrote:I thought Bruno started off excellent and i had him in front and still in control before the end although i did give Lewis the 6th,Lennox had a great jab but i thought Frank's was better and busier and he did did seen to hurt Lewis early on with a right hand, great finish from Lewis though,Bruno was taking some clean shots especially uppecuts
I struggled to put much daylight between them in that jabbing contest, both men very good with the left hand, finding nice angles to get it through and showing good variety and range with it.
