Anyone care to explain why Oquendo has got a pass into the next round?

He's pretty shit isn't he? And inactive? And didn't he lose the title to Chagaev in his last fight?

I get including him in the tournament, but surely... I dunno, the actual CHAMPION should get a pass instead? Or any of the other fighters who have actually done something recently? Or what the heck, just give him an opponent like Takam or Rudenko.

If it was me i would be thinking , Haye wants it , he better have some serious backers , with some serious cash ,, otherwise , go fornicate yourself . Really who does Haye think he is ,, he pulled out of fights , refused to fight in the last one he did'nt pull out of , beats a guy my granny could beat in his return fight , and people are talking like he's the man . On top of that IF he managed to score a fight with Brown , he would want the lions share of the purse

If i was Brown i would be shouting for a AJ or Fury fight

I would be facing a Chisora, Price or Whyte in the UK and a Scott, Tarver, Stiverne or Briggs in the US once I've disposed of Oquendo.
Then pimp myself out to the highest bidder. Either Wilder stateside or AJ, Fury or Haye in the UK maybe even Parker in Oz...
That would be my retirement plan...

I think it was a legal issue with Oquendo. Apparently the contract for the first Chagaev fight gave him the right to take a rematch if he lost, and when that wasn't honored he successfully sued, a rematch was ordered, and it was then agreed that he'd wait for the winner of Browne-Chagaev.

Here's what needs to happen.

Browne needs to be at a high profile joint in Sydney (tv & press must be there) when suddenly - out of the blue - he gets into a spat with Solomon Haumono. Shoves are shoved, insults are tossed, WAGs fall to the ground, bad blood is imminent. The 'fight' gets broken up but it's obvious, really f*cking obvious, that these two hate each other and there's only one way to sort this drama out.

In the f*cking ring. And with 41 kayos in 47 wins between them IT. WILL. BE. WAR! ! !

Have the game at a footy stadium in Sydney. Throw in Zac Dunn v Blake Caparello on the undercard to get the Melbourne crowd interested and then Jeff Horn v Lenny Zap at 145 & you're talking an Aussie Mega Fight.

I'll be there. How much are tickets? Can't f*cking wait :bag:

Agree mate. Can't help but like the fella but the top guys would make easy work of him. He always has half a chance with his power though. Must have some bottle to go over there and not be intimidated! I'd have been heading for the hills as soon as I seen Chagaev turn up for the weigh in surrounded by football casuals with automatic weapons...... Taxi!!
Yeah hes coearly got stones on him

Browne is tough and game, but exactly the kind of fighter Haye would brutalise..... He's not that big and not very mobile. Haye Ko 4

Fair call, although Browne is more of a lump than I first thought and Haye might be advised to be careful at first...because Lucas can clump.
Browne ain't De Mori reloaded and a bit of patience might be advisable.

But ultimately Haye's way better movement and faster hands are in a different league and after some easy pot-shotting he'd step in and let the power shots go and that would probably be that.

I like Lucas but unless Haye opts to fight daft/macho on the night or has undergone a huge and (as yet unseen) decline he'll finish Lucas in about 8-9 rounds.

Browne's durability and size might cause some problems. You'd make Haye favourite, but if he managed to still be there in the second half, you could envisage an upset.

He still talks a good game, but his body gave up the ghost years ago.
I think Briggs would be a good opponent for Browne. Briggs would see him as easier than Haye and its for a title, Browne would see him as a good name to take and Briggs mouth would attract attention to the fight. Haye is a very tough fight for both men...
Why on earth are people mentioning Briggs, he's ancient, in poor shape, suffers from terrible asthma, and hasn't had a decent victory in a decade.

Enough already.
Briggs fought better competition as David Haye has in the past few years actually...

God, have you got shares in Briggs or something?

Haye has been largely inactive, but his recent form is clearly better than Briggs.

I just say it the way it is, David Haye fought Mark de Mori, who had a boxrec rating of 51 before he fought David Haye, Zoltan Petranyi as well as Raphael Zumbano Love had a higher boxrec rating, Briggs won both and even many more.
All others Briggs fought were KOed in the first round.

Briggs currently has a higher boxrec rating as David Haye, it's simple as that.

David Price has a higher Boxrec rathing than either of them so do you think he should be up for a shot before them both?

Agreed James...this is a fight where Haye would need to be patient, smart and respectful ....using his assets wisely and with a gameplan required.
Browne is not an Aussie club fighter with a puffed-up record.

Try to wallop Lucas early and you've got a guy who can take a bomb and will hit back with stuff of his own...and if he's still there in the last third of the fight then you'd better have the necessary tools to stick to your boxing and go for the points route.

Lucas is not boxing dynamite but he's been around and is hard/strong and Haye needs to take him apart bit-by-bit. If he tries any shortcuts, then it could get unexpectedly messy.

Actually yes I do, they have to fight themself above Price.
Briggs-Price would be quite a nice match up for the moment actually wouldn't it?

Personally, I'd say that is stretching things a wee bit.... ;-)

Haye has fought one fight in 4 years against a guy who had no business being in that ring. He had previously in his career been KO'd in round 1 by a lightpunching lightheavyweight who had only won 15 of his 38 fights.
His 2nd last fight before fighting Haye was against a guy who had lost 5 out of 7 fights.
He was as slow as a glacier. Lucas Browne looks like Ali in comparison.

I personally wouldn't be using that single fight in 4 years as any kind of yardstick of "recent form" at all.

He probably is, somehow some people got more pounds as others, so win anyway.
A mouse is a better fighter as an elephant in every single way, somehow he doesn't weight 15.000 pounds, but 0,15.

That must be the most ludicrous tournament I've ever seen. Oquendo only has to have one fight to reach the final against one of the weaker guys in the tournament but the current wba champion has 2 fights to get to the final of a tournament where he already holds the belt?

I've no time for any of the Awarding bodies but the wba make the others look credible. What a joke. If I was Fury I'd tell them to stick their tournament.
