Good read that. He sounds like a straight-up, honest sort of fella. Pretty modest well - he says he never had the biggest punch, but he's got enough highlight reel knockout wins to suggest otherwise.

Apparently he is out tomorrow against Mario Daser for the IBO International and WBO European belts. Daser has beaten absolutely no one and has never fought beyond six rounds, although he does have a 12-0 record.

Hopefully Afolabi has enough left to win this one - unless he is the victim of some serious home cooking - but does he have it in him for one last run?

Is he really coming back? I never like it when boxers make comebacks. Big George excepted, of course.

this bit here is where Ola is talking - I believe - about Enzo Macarinelli in Manchester. I was at that fight..... it was a bill with Khan-Barrera, Bradley Pryce fought Matthew Hall, Nicky Cook fought some South American and got busted up to the body and stopped early and Ola Afolabi mingled and was very popular with the fans on his way from the ring back to the dressing room. It was a great occasion to be at.

Two days before the biggest fight of my career, I was in an emergency room having surgery on my eye. The surgery was successful but I wasn't to have physical contact for at least two weeks.
Two days after the surgery, I was fighting a guy with a 29 and 1 record with 23 coming by way of KO. I knocked him out in the ninth round and became the interim world champion. A few months later, still at the age of 29, I got the chance to become a full world champion.

I had absolutely no idea about the eye-surgery 2 days earlier... I don't know how he did it. I'm sure the board wouldn't have let him fight if they'd known about it. Good luck to him, wish him well in his retirement from the sport :salut: .
Believe it or not but you could get 7/1 on Afolabi to win that fight.

Some odd stuff going on in the betting markets.... the fight is now almost even from ofolabi being a 8-1 favorite. His opponent is a multi millionaire German businessman and the winner gets a world title shot... hmmmnnnn

Reading up on Daser, and this type of thing doesn't surprise me!

In and out of prison, and, at least within the last few years, still surrounded by criminals. The circumstances behind his wealth are also vaguely explained in the articles I read, mainly just given in passing as 'property'. He seemingly had no amateur career, has only fought bums, and could recently only manage an MD over a 1-6 opponent (did they think he was safe at that level?), yet now he finds himself facing a vastly more experienced title challenger with a world ranking on the line.

Watch him win too....

Apparently he inherited a gravel plant from his father-in-law, must be a great place to make things disappear...

Ah, I see, though I'm not sure if that's the tightest fit with the self-made narrative being bandied about...

Daser wins by stoppage. Word is that it looked very much like a fake fight...

Big surprise there!

Yep, 3rd round stoppage.

All the commentary I've read on social media is essentially 'lol, what a farce that was'

it wouldn't work for me in scotland but i found a you tube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50zTpZ96TfY looks like ola had a broken right hand and daser knew it as he never felt the need to keep his hands up :OhYes: all i can say is i hope the money was worth it for ola.
