True. When was the last time any of them done anything halfway decent as a promoter? They are small time up here. Any fighter with talent/ambition should stay clear. I was glad when Josh Taylor went with Cyclone.

I've heard horror stories about both. Gilmour just seems to be a pure prick but Morrison is a bully when he can get away with it.

Who was it that was involved in the Scott Dixon fiasco years ago? Was he not stabbed or knee capped over a promotional dispute and had to do the off to Malta?

Worst part of the game. My cuz was doing around 70 a fight but was always told a minimum number he had to do to stay on a show. Most he did was 170 wen he fought Warrington. His %of sales depended on him winning I think.

In a 34 fight career I boxed on two home shows. First home show in York for over a decade ( since the days of Henry Wharton) I managed around 130 promoted by Carl Greaves. Boxed Danny Thorpe who could still pull the odd win result / decent bang on him. Second home fight at Leeds Bateson show I did 98 after a few pulled out. It was meant to be my last fight so was expecting an easy last pts win fight. I got matched with the dangerous Mark Mcray boy can he punch for a small guy. Good money was offered on the road and was far less stressful. The typical journeyman story.

My mate is white collar boxing tomorrow (first one at age 36, cruiser)

He's got about 20 of us and he's raised over 1k for charity - fair play

As far as I know that was a bit of aggro over money and power mate. The boys that went for him with bats were from Hamilton.

Ahh right. I must be mistaken. I always thought it was over a promotional dispute. They done a number on the poor b'stard!

To be fair most boxers have to pay for their own medical, other than the top stars, or if the promoter/ manager knows 100% hes getting a return, that's not out of greed that's out of common sense.

The promoter i work with on a regular has paid for some but most he doesn't, one of which that i know he paid for was a journeyman who will be out as often as possible and another was someone who he expects to do very well.

One example of a lad he manages is a journeyman who after 1 fight with him decided he was retiring, having just taken his license back out. His trainer paid the medical, and lost money on it.

So its understandable that they don't pay for everyone's medicals.

If the lads have paid for them themselves they'll want their moneys worth out of it and wont just usually decide to randomly retire, or theyll avoid getting themselves in trouble (hopefully)

As far as tickets, its pretty simple that if your not a name then you'll not attract money in to make it viable to a promoter putting you on the show in the home corner unless you shift a few tickets to cover the opponent at the very least. Of course there is some exceptions such as if a manager/promoter is trying to build someone up who isn't a ticket seller but have a bit of talent.

Boxing is a business afterall, without selling tickets theres no shows and no fights and boxing dies.

That in my view is not the promoters being greedy as is the common thought trail, why should they lose money when they are the only ones who arent guaranteed to earn anything on a show.
