Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
He deliberately missed it not once but twice. Essentially did the same as Scott against Chisora and then against Wilder when he did not event attempted to get up. Which goes to show once again that it isnt easy to stand there take those shots. Its painful and very scary.

Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
Given his background, he seems content to fight as hard as needs be for a good wage. Had it been a few million for the win and only a few grand for the loss, I've no doubt he'd have got back up and thrown some serious leather. Not a coward, just a pragmatist.
Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
I think you lot are being unfair,
The count was in English, he's not English so how the f*ck can he understand the count

50 50 50 fight. It about levels innit. Martin was the patsy. Had no intention of fighting. Dude only came for the cash
Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
Yes, he quit
Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
The fight went how I thought it would. Over in the first couple of rounds for Joshua. However, when I saw Martin in the dressing room he looked scared. When he got into the ring it was like watching an Audley Harrison fight.
I didn't think he was going to be petrified though. He was a beaten man before the bell even rang. Fair play to him though. He's got enough money to live well for the rest of his life. No doubt he made sure he counted himself out.
There's still a couple of hundred grand out there for him. He's a name and a former world champion. He's still highly ranked and someone would be willing to spend a few quid to get him on their record. I have a feeling he'll be fighting Ortiz next and he'll get KO'd in one round. Retire and walk off into the sunset with Grace Kelly.

A lot of athletes have pissed away more money than Charles Martin made the other night.Exoddus wrote:The fight went how I thought it would. Over in the first couple of rounds for Joshua. Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
Yep
Same as Scott vs Wilder & Chisora, he got hit and thought "fornicate that, I'm out of here".

Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
i think he did, yes
Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
He didn't fancy more of what was coming so yeah I think he deliberately missed the count. He looked physically capable of getting to his feet and just shat out of it.
Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
Yes in a way but theres nothing 'dodgy about it' he wanted no more of AJ but got up as the ref was hitting 10 to save a bit of face. And play the 'I'm up' card, plenty do it.
Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
the old pros trick, up at 9 knowing the ref will wave it off, pretend you were ready to fight on but misheard the count. the next straight right he took would have taken his heeeeeeed off!!

I thought he seriously lacked ambition.
He came for the payday and apart from a Glazkov rematch I can't see him in a big fight again.

Or trying to wangle a rematch with Joshua. He's started complaining about the stoppage now.PredatorHayds wrote:I thought he seriously lacked ambition.

Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
I wonder if there was a rematch clause which Martin will excercise and this time he WILL throw the left hand more than once
In all seriousness he looks a bit of a twat now after that entrence

If thats the case then I definitely am in the wrong line of work .Ricky_ wrote:Total coward. In the wrong line of work.
Didn't he get 5 mil for it ?
Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
He was twice walloped by big rights. He knew when the first one landed, he literally has no chance of winning.
Not getting up from the second, when he probably could have done, doesn't make him a coward, or a cheat.
I did the same as a 14 year old with 16oz gloves, the first time I was battered properly.

He realised very quickly that he couldn't even throw a decent jab to set up his power shot without taking a big right hand in the face. I don't blame the guy for thinking he's better off going down and staying down rather than let himself take a severe beating.
Re: Did Martin deliberately miss the count?
I think he deliberately missed the count so he could get back to the dressing room and crow bar those shorts out of his arse crack.

Was it Dempsey who said "a champion is someone who gets up when he cant" ?

Yeah, I watched the fight with my friend, when she saw him come out, she said "Christ, look how tight his shorts are, - where'd he get them from?"BillyTKid wrote:I think he deliberately missed the count so he could get back to the dressing room and crow bar those shorts out of his arse crack.
