Damn, if he did, indeed, make anywhere around five mil, no wonder he was so eager to jump overseas to defend the belt against Joshua before the dust had even settled from the Glazkov fight. Hell, it seems like he was hopping on the plane headed for the UK while they were still carting poor Glazkov out of the ring on the stretcher.

Seriously, though all that cash is certainly a lovely balm to have for her wounded ego, I almost feel bad for him.
He'd shown some promise in the run up to his title shot against opposition that was a bit better than what most young heavyweights are matched with. Not dramatically better, but certainly better than say, Deontay Wilder met in his first 23 fights.
Sly Barron 7-1, Aaron Kinch 5-1-1, Vincent Thompson 13-0, Joey Dawejko 8-2-2, Glendy Hernandez 10-0, Alex Flores 14-0 were some of his early opponents, so his people weren't feeding him stiffs & he was knocking these guys out.
Did he deserve the ridiculously high rating that the IBF gave him? Of course not, but then, Czar Glazkov didn't deserve to be their mandatory contender either. And, just like Joshua's people couldn't turn down a seemingly premature shot at a world title, nor could Martin's v Glazkov.
And while that bout ended in a very unsatisfactory manner, I thought that Martin was well on his way to handling Glazkov & would have won legitimately had Glazkov not blown out his knee.

Then, the sort of big money offer came that all fighters wait their entire careers for, to defend against Joshua. A fighter even less experienced than himself. An Olympic Gold Medalist, sure, but Martin's own amateur credentials were fairly stellar as well as he was a National Champion.
But, clearly he was in there with a superior fighter as well as being overwhelmed by the moment & it spelled disaster for him.
It was a dismal outing for him for sure, but I'm not sure if all this ridicule that he's been subject to is fair.
This very well could be the end of him. And, if so, at least he's made his fortune.
But, he may come back determined to show that he's not the embarrassment to the sport that many are calling him.
If so, then his people should feed him a couple of confidence builders against the likes of shot trial horses like Mo Harris, Travis Walker & Jason Gavern then move him along to some more solid journeymen like Derric Rossy, Fred Kassi & Nagy Aguilera.
By that point, if he's beaten about a half dozen of those types they could put him back in with world class opposition.
That's the route I'd take with him anyhow.

Martin clearly wasn't very good in there but I think there are a lot of guys who could feasibly have got their hands on a paper title who would also have been blown out in 2 rounds.

He can do what Trevor Berbick used to; he used to wear a robe with 'WBC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION' long after Mike Tyson had bounced him around the ring like a netball & ripped the title from him.

Anyone from this list beats him. Retire or choose the biggest payday available.

I can see Main Events putting a decent payday up for him to have a Glazkov rematch.

If Glazkov wins they will say bar the injury he'd of been IBF champion and they will go after the IBF belt.

Martin got a great payday from Joshua, would get a second career highest from Glazkov. If he loses that retire and live a long and happy life.

Me either. The clips I saw of his winning fights, he looked a clubfighter. Zero defence, big looping shots, head held up high, poor footwork.

I got taken in by the kid having the balls to cross the pond and take on that beast in his first defense. I thought that he either must be THAT good that he's taking on a challenge like this OR this guys is so bad that he could lose against a soft boxer if carefully matched up so might as well cash in when they could. It was definitely the latter.

Those two right hands were right down Broad Street, no faint or anything. No defense at all. How this guy got a title shot is crazy.

I'd also contend that they weren't even delivered with full power. They were hard shots, no doubt, but I think Martin was more than happy to be bowled over ASAP.

Probably a lot lower competition, or just move to another payday.

I reckon an 8-ball of Colombian flake, couple of hookers, and a new hot tub are in his immediate plans.

We are definitely seeing people not gauging the 10 count correctly lately and then trying to blame the referee for being incorrect when it's obvious that they just wanted a way out. There's a fine line between being a veteran boxer utilizing his full window of time during a knockdown and a guy that just didn't want to get up in time to continue fighting. They really give the ref no other alternative but to count them out. No one hears that count better than the guy on the ground 12 "'s away from fingers showing him what number the count is up to but still boxers complain to the ref. Get up at 8 and problem is solved.
