Cruiserweight is the strongest division in boxing? You sure?
For me it is, loaded with some cracking fighters.

Lebedev, Glowacki, Drozd, Briedis, Huck, Makubu, Usyk... they're a bunch of cracking fighters.

Then the B-Level fighters like Ovill, Bellew, Mchunu, Afolobi, Ramirez, Durodola are good too.

Even more importantly, they are fighting each other.

Durodola is facing Briedis next.
Lebedev is unifying with Ramirez and recently faced Kayode, Kalenga and Kolodziej who are solid fighters.
Makubu and Mchunu recently fought and I think Makubu is due to face Bellew isn't he?
Huck and Glowacki recently fought and Huck's last fight was against Ola

No ducking in the cruiserweight division. The best are fighting the best. Unlike WW where Brook, Garcia, Thurman etc are content to coast on C and D Level scrubs and avoid each other.
The cruiserweights are well matched and exciting, but are any of them really elite level boxers? Possibly Usyk, but he's still unproven.
Huck, Lebedev, Glowacki, Usyk and Durodola would be in the top five in any division.

Briedis it's too early to say but he looks good. The others like Makubu, Mchunu, Ovill, Bellew, Ola would all be solid top 20-top 10 fighters in most other divisions.

I'm not sure that's true, but even if it is, being top 5 in the division doesn't equate to a place on the p4p list. It's rare to have 3 fighters from one division all in the top 10 on the p4p list, never mind the top 5 all being there.

I like the CW division, as I said, they're often in exciting, competitive fights, but I don't see any of them as having either the resume or talent to claim a top 10 p4p spot. Let's take Glowacki as the #1 at CW, before his last fight there's not a whole lot on his record to get excited about, does a win against Marco Huck really warrant a p4p ranking?

MarkMcBurney wrote:Controversial maybe but Ward would be above Golovkin for me based on GGG's opponents so far compared to Ward's opponents. Golovkin wouldn't beat Froch IMO, Ward made him look silly.
Ward is significantly bigger than GGG and is a LHW now while GGG isn't even a big MW. Of course Ward has beaten better opposition and has a case for being above GGG due to that, but I don't know how relevant the Ward/Froch/GGG comparison is given that we're talking about P4P rankings and GGG is obviously smaller than the others. I think size would be especially relevant in this case too since Froch and GGG are physical fighters who rely to some extent on overpowering their opponents, so Froch's extra size would be an important factor in how that bout unfolds even though P4P comparisons are supposed to offset factors like that.

I didn't mean they would fill out the top five in any division. Like put them in WW and automatically the top five is the 5 cruisers with Pacman, Brook, Bradley etc automatically being nudged down to accommodate them.

I meant take any one of them and that one would easily be in the top 5 in any of the divisions to some degree. Hope I've made myself clear, sometimes I'm shit at getting my points across :p

I also wouldn't put all five in the p4p list at all which is why in my list, I only had Glowacki. I did have Huck in my P4P list so for me, Glowacki beating him puts him in the list since he beat, decisively a P4P fighter. The same way as Fury beating Wlad puts him in most people's list despite not having many other quality wins (Chisora, Hammer and Cunningham are good wins though).

But then maybe the way I judge divisions is different than other people.

I go with both quality of the elite fighters (and like I mentioned, I really do rate the top 5 cruisers and think any of them would be top 5 in any division) but also the overall depth of the division. Like if you leave the top 20 do you arrive in bum city or are there still competitive fighters outside the 20? And IMO the cruiserweight division has that depth.

CW is one of my favorite divisions, though that's because I think there are many evenly matched and exciting fighters in the division, not because I think the division is particularly strong ability-wise. I have Glowacki beneath Drozd and Lebedev, and I don't think he deserves a P4P spot for beating Huck (whom I incidentally had losing to Lebedev when they fought a few years back). Huck is a good fighter but not really of the caliber where someone should be on a P4P list when he's the only top opponent they've beaten, and let's remember that Glowacki was losing the fight and had nearly been stopped, so it's not like he put on some masterclass fitting of an elite P4P talent.

As for Brook, I think he has P4P talent but there are fighters who deserve a P4P spot more based on resume.

Cruiserweight is a great division with a really gay name (no offence to gays, cruising is a gay term). It could and dhould be the second or first most popular division but it needs a new name or it will never be overly popular in english as a first language countries.

You'd have to be a right poof to be put off the division because of the name.

Who even thinks like that?

If it was called the light heavyweight division (as it dhould be) it would be a lot more popular.

We've already got a light heavyweight division.

What are you going to call that one instead?

Brook has got to be a high level Mason or something. He's only got one win worth anything at world level.

This is almost as bad as when they had Broner in the P4P top 10 for God knows what reason.

Expect to see David Haye at number 8 in the June rankings! :brick: :TU:

Not related to Brook but a question I need answered: why is The Ring magaizine so out of date by the time you read it?

I read t for years but have only bought it sporadically over the last few years. But I took the April 16 issue on holiday with me last week for the flight. It was April and I was reading a report of Fury vs Wlad from November! why is it so behind the times by the time it is published?

Also when did they stop referring to the various world titles as "alphabet titles"? they were mentioning the IBF etc by their names now...

I don't really get that. Brook certainly looks like a solid fighter and is talented, but I don't think he's got the significant wins to be on the P4P list just yet.

Just noticed Brook is no 1 P4P in the BBC British Rankings

Not sure how he can be so high without fighting anyone of real note apart from Porter

And Fury is behind Khan and Frampton, too, despite beating Wlad... Absolutely disgusting the lack of credit he's got for that win.
