Was that about the time he mentioned in every interview that he didn't like talking about his boxers going 50 fights unbeaten?

That was a good record, but when you look at his boxers being full time boxers working with a big promoter with a guaranteed fight date against lower level opposition the record does not stand up to scrutiny.

I have a feeling Crolla's gonna lose that fight. It's more based on the fact that 2016 doesnt seem like Gallaghers year so far more than anything though.

So if we are going from who brings them through from the moment they walk into an amateur gym then that rules out virtually every trainer in the world.

I dislike Tesco Joe and find his interviews nauseating in the extreme. His comments after the Quigg/Frampton fight were ludicrous and I think he is vastly overrated by many. However, the criticism over his lack of guiding someone from scratch (kid to world champion) is a bit unnecessary. He is a professional trainer with a large camp, I would not expect him to be down the Generic ABC every Tuesday and Thursday working with a bunch of ten year olds.

We can list his shortfalls and explain his deficiencies without having to drag in stuff that is not really fair comment. Weakens a strong argument when hater BS is thrown in on top. Less is more.

It's easy to list shortfalls and deficiencies but at the end of the day a trainer is really only as good as his boxer. The greatest trainer of all time isn't making the majority of fighters world champions because they're simply not good enough. The greatest trainers were in a position to choose who they trained in the end, and that's the significant difference. Joe can only train who comes to him, I'm sure he'd love to train a Mayweather, they're just aren't many walking round Manchester.

Firmly in Camp Crolla; Murray had well and truly sacked him off by then.

Quite a few of the fights you listed were British/European level fights at the time they happened, if you count them you should really count the victories his fighters had at that sort of level also.
But I take your point, Gallaghers record at world level isn't great.

But that is exactly what he was throwing at Shane mc before the Frampton fight that Shane has come in and taken Frampton on whereas he has guided quigg all the way therefore he is the better trainer.

Personally I cannot stand Gallagher. He is an arrogant twat that wants to be all about him just look at how he was trying to claim the prize place at the weigh in v Frampton. Sometimes he just lacks the respect to others he demands.

I also wonder if the reason why his fighters fail at top level is because he is in the corner for at least 1 other fight that night.

I also think Stephen Smith going over to America with a week to go was probably not the best prep for a world title fight surely 3/4 weeks before the fight would get him adjusted,settled and still training hard

I was here during Paul Smith's short time posting here and it was embarrassing. Obviously all us fans know best, pity none of us move into boxing full time and show them how it should be done!

Crolla's fights with Rees, Murray and Morris were all 50 / 50 fights beforehand and he won all 3 of them, Burton v Shinkwin was a 50 / 50 fight, Smith v Buckland etc. He had Hosea Burton and John Murray as kids, took a fighter Levi Tute from novice to 2 national schoolboy titles also

he was clueless in the frampton-quigg fight and it do seem that when his fighters are up against it and not backed heavily as favourites they take a loss

Joe Gallagher is one of if not thee most intolerable man in world boxing. Never trained an actual world champion until last year where Crolla and Liam Smith picked up titles against less than elite level fighters, Smith effectively handed the belt. Joe seems to make it all about him getting involved with trainers and making a laugh of himself he ensures he is the main attraction and not his fighters as was the case with Frampton-Quigg and Shane McGuigan as well as countless others I could list if anyone wants. His tactics are abysmal again I'll take the Frampton-Quigg fight as the example Quigg didn't throw a punch for 7/8 rounds and by the time he applied pressure the fight was won and his jaw was broke. While he returned to the corner after the midpoint of the fight where he informed Quigg, Sky which are famous for their bias scorecards (enter Halling and Watt) that he was six down and Quigg looked genuinely shocked. Callum Smith has talent I would question his jab but if he wants to truly fulfil his potential he needs to ditch Joe.

Hosea Burton was an odds on favourite with the bookies for that one. You can't deny he's had success domestically, but what about at a higher level?
