I wasn't being offensive, It was merely by way of emphasis. I just feel that to mention Hatton and
The fact is DLH has paid his dues, he has already won world titles in many weight classes, and all but one of those was one of the big three sanctioning bodies. He didn't really need Sturm particularly, it was just a tester to see what it was like fighting a middleweight.
I understand the parallel you are making, but it doesn't really hold water.
The reason is this. Hatton is the one moaning and bitching about wanting a major title shot, and complaining that his promoter is holding him back, how he doesn't want the fans to think he's running scared, and yet in the next breath he's basically saying 'the money had better be good, or I might not show.' Do me a favour Ricky, take the fight even if it's for less money, if you win you have a WBA title, and you can go on to bigger paydays.
DLH is the biggest attraction in the sport outside of Tyson, in fact he is probably more of an attraction that Tyson now, a genuine cross over star who has appeal on both sides of the atlantic, and one of the few genuine superstars in boxing.
Ricky Hatton is a local phenomenon who has been very astutely marketed by his promoter who fights from home all the time, and who could only sell that many tickets in Manchester. Even in London, hardly anyone has heard of him, and in fact, he may have more fans in the states than the rest of the UK, but he is hardly a headline Vegas act quite yet.
As I stated before, Ricky's fans who turn up to the MEN are the ones along with Sky subcribers, who have made him a very rich man, do you not feel there is any extent to which he owes the fans something back. It's a bit curmudgeonly of him if he turns the fight down because there isn't quite enough money in the pot. To state that the promoter should be the one to take the brunt of it is also a little rich, after all, the promoter whilst not risking their health, is the one risking their finances every time they put the show on, and without a doubt terrifically enhance a fighters prospects of making a fortune, which Ricky certainly has.
No offence was intended, I was just a bit incredulous at the comparison.
Warren hits back at Hatton

BOXING promoter allegedly has come out fighting after taking flak from his star name Ricky Hatton over the way he has handled the Manchester man's career.
The Sports Network supremo was not pleased that Hatton described his company's conduct as "unprofessional".
Hatton's contention was that his big WBA title showdown with Vivian Harris - now scheduled for the MEN Arena on October 2 - was announced to the public before there had been consultation with the Hitman himself.
Hatton was also unhappy that his last two fights had been against low-grade opponents, and that he had climbed into the ring unaware of what his purse had been.
Warren disputes the claim that there had been no discussions before the Harris announcement was made. "After Ricky's last fight, we said he would be boxing on October 2 against either Paul Spadafora or Vivian Harris, and that Spadafora was the preferred choice," said Warren. "That was live on television."
As for Hatton's grumble that he is not being consulted before announcements are made, Warren says: "I discuss all of these things with Ricky's father Ray.
"So, who do I speak to - is it Ricky or his father?
"As for Harris, we didn't announce the deal - it was announced on Harris's website, and as a result of that we were getting phone calls, so we put a statement out on our website.
"Regarding the money, you have to remember that Vivian Harris is the champion and before you can do a deal with anyone else you have to sort the champion out. If the fight had gone to purse bids, the challenger would get 20 per cent - Ricky will be doing better than that."
Warren also feels that he has been unfairly criticised over Hatton's last two opponents, Dennis Pedersen and Wilfredo Vilches, which made for low-key affairs. Says Warren: "When he fought Pedersen, Ricky was due to fight Kelson Pinto, an opponent his camp had picked, and a fight which I made for the WBO interim title. In fact, if that fight had gone ahead and Ricky had won it, he would be WBO champion by now.
"Everything was agreed for that fight, but Pinto pulled out. I could not help what happened - it was a case of fight Pedersen or don't fight at all
"As for Vilches, he was an opponent picked by Billy Graham and Ricky - I never picked him."

Hmm, wonder how much longer this can go on without there being a permanent rift, can either man afford to lose the other though?

I notice that there are a couple of rather large hints in this that events have unfolded in a manner not of Mr Warren's own choosing on a couple of occasions......

very ! makes you wonder hmm?
Tag this along with the way he looked on tv when nearly 12.5 stone when commentating 3 weeks beofre the original date and you have to wonder is the promoter the one unfairly taking the flak here.
Hopefully they can both just get on with this and bring a real title back to britain.

I think it's been hinted on here before, that a certain promoter is, allegedly, not on Ray Hatton's christmas card list.

yeah i remneber that, seems strange to me though he would flank him at a press conference if this is the case? Why not just stay away?
Not a big fan of families running your sporting career, tend to get oo involved when it gets to a certain level. Thats a generic statment not a slight at the hattons at all.
I just hope ricky puts this to one side forgets about it and takes it out on harris come october.

If you look at the way Hatton has been steered throughout his career, you have to say it's bordered on the genius.
For example (and this is off the top of my head), he fought a couple of southpaws - then he fought southpaw Eamonn Magee.
He fought a durable Argie, then he fought durable Ben Tackie.
Now, he's fought a lanky Argie (Vilches) and next up is lanky Vivian Harris.
It's been like this all through his career.
Warren has just given away the real brains behind Hatton's success to date. Ricky Hatton and Billy Graham.

When it comes to making Hatton a very rich man however, Mr Warren should receive the plaudits. As we all know, ability doesn't count for shit when it comes to making money. How much had Hopkins earned for his last 10 fights before he beat Trinidad?

Arguably the most illuminating thread surrounding Hatton I've ever read.

I feel that we are beginning to see the lifting of the veil slightly with regard to Hatton and his relationship with Sports Network.

Thing is, anyone coming on here isn't really going to get away with much, if they bullshit they are going to get shot down pretty fast. It seemed clear he was trying to inflame some sort of shite though.

Good call. It seemed all he wanted to do was plunge every thread into a slagging match. Good riddance.
