Yeah it would be a real test that's for sure! Soro is on a cracking run of form and has had two good wins away from home so I'm sure he'd travel over here no problems. I checked his record the other day and noticed he's not fought in nearly a year though. Two good wins so would've expected him to kick on and build from that. Strange one. Don't know if he's injured or what?ShadrachSimmo wrote:Far too live an opponent I'd fancy him to beat Smith.Stuarty30 wrote:He should fight Soro. i know its frustrating, i would of prefered him to hold on to a lesser title and defend the sh1t out of it a bit like hatton did with that WBU title he hadHorse wrote:He's learning sod all fighting these chumps though.littlepug wrote:this is the problem with lads picking up ( through clever managing/promoting) world titles before they are ready, we are then forced to watch sub standard defences while the lad learns on the job, unfortunately it seems to be a trend in the modern game now so will just have to put up with it
He should at least be trying to fight opposition that is better than domestic level to try to learn something.
If he's given a tough mandatory then he is buggered.
Soro had contractual issues with Top Rank that he's just got free of and it appears he's now injured, already had a fight lined up later this month.Stuarty30 wrote:Yeah it would be a real test that's for sure! For a laughable champion.BitPlayer wrote:Laughable opponent.
He's still better than anyone Smith has faced so far and would be an acceptable "step-up" opponent imo. Like I said, he's been rushed to a world title and the Andrades and Charlos will be too much for him. He should be fighting guys in the top 30 though.Naandrew wrote:Saldivia did you not forget he got sparked in a round by a jab off Kell Brook. The fact he is 23 on this site either says the rankings here are mental or the weight is pretty poor.Horse wrote:I think you might be underrating Bundrage a bit.tigermoth87 wrote:Someone like Saldivia, Cano or Bundrage would be acceptable title defences. Credible opponents without being too much of a risk at this stage like Matirosyran and Andrade would be.
I'd say that he'd be a risk.
Much better choices.tigermoth87 wrote:Hell, Macklin or Brian Rose would be better choices.
Yeah it's baffling how out of all the available fighters to fight for the vacant belt, WBO picked Liam Smith and John Thompson. I wouldn't put Smith in the top 30 and Thompson wouldn't crack the top 50.Anzi wrote:I have to say that I have never known someone get such an easy route to a world title, win it against a terrible fighter who had such a rubbish record and defend it against such an unqualified opponent and now this. Warren has always had a good relationship with the WBO, if you know what I mean lol ?tigermoth87 wrote:Yeah it's baffling how out of all the available fighters to fight for the vacant belt, WBO picked Liam Smith and John Thompson. He has - and FW also wanted to show the other Scouse ingrates (the other Smiths and Boomer ) what they were missing after leaving the great over-lord to seek greener grass with the fake tanned coiffured one.Anzi wrote:Warren has always had a good relationship with the WBO, if you know what I mean lol ?tigermoth87 wrote:Yeah it's baffling how out of all the available fighters to fight for the vacant belt, WBO picked Liam Smith and John Thompson. Because they could beat him.Horse wrote:Champion - Liam Smith

Why doesn't Warren put Smith in with one of his three British fighters that are in the rankings?
Surely those fights would make more money and they'd also be more credible opponents for Smith.
How marketable is Smith?Marlo Stanfield wrote:Because they could beat him.
I'd say slightly more so. The Welsh are generally awful at supporting their fighters (I am Welsh)Horse wrote:How marketable is Smith?Marlo Stanfield wrote:Because they could beat him.
Would he make Warren more money as champion than the other three?
if only nasser al harbi hadnt eaten all them tacos in mexico he could have been a contender..................Anzi wrote:I have to say that I have never known someone get such an easy route to a world title, win it against a terrible fighter who had such a rubbish record and defend it against such an unqualified opponent and now this. No Mate - Paul and Steven were both with Frank before they fucked off along with Boomer.Anzi wrote:lol, I take it you mean Fast Eddie.bripez wrote:He has - and FW also wanted to show the other Scouse ingrates (the other Smiths and Boomer ) what they were missing after leaving the great over-lord to seek greener grass with the fake tanned coiffured one.Anzi wrote: Warren has always had a good relationship with the WBO, if you know what I mean lol ?

From that point Frank was going to get Liam a world title one way or another to prove a point.
Hard to find a decent sized venue in Wales for a world title fight.Marlo Stanfield wrote:I'd say slightly more so. The Welsh are generally awful at supporting their fighters (I am Welsh)Horse wrote:How marketable is Smith?Marlo Stanfield wrote:Because they could beat him.
