I hope Burns gets back in the black. He lost a bad few quid a couple of years ago, apparently. It's a very sad scenario when you think someone might have been financially better off by not becoming a multiple champion

Your far to blinkered on Burns. Nobody is saying he's an elite champion or P4P caliber, but he's a solid fighter who's had a decent career, albiet with a few bad nights at the office. Titles are watered down these days, thats just the way it is. How do you rate Kell Brook i wonder, P4P top 10 probably!
A classic example of a fringe contender would be someone like Kevin Mitchell, who Burns blasted out with ease.

Well they may have been around a long time....but its never been as bad as nowin this,decade......and its gonna,get worse going fwd....is,what he is,saying
But also we're seeing arguably more significant victories by fighters, especially away from home. Fury, Brook, McDonnell - even doing the double - and Degale for example.
And UK boxing does seem to have some structure, with apparently Brook v Vargas, Degale v Jack and Crolla v Linares in the works - not to mention Fury v Klitschko part 2 late next month.
I think Burns can use this title, make a defence or two, try to attract a big name. If he loses in respectable enough circumstances he could use his recent status to get a shot at one of UK's lightweight world title holders. Should have at least one, maybe two, big paydays left. He appeared fit and enthusiastic enough in the last fight, though he still punches very high and wide. Him vs Flanagan would be a terrific windmill fight. Probably exciting as well.
