What a year.

It's quite fitting that Muhammad should pass in 2016, as this year, so many great & famous people have passed away.

2016 has claimed the greatest of the all.

I'm quite sad today & I found myself welling up when I heard Big George Foreman's tribute.

It's so strange, as Ali has always been there, so to speak; in fact, he is exactly the same age as my father & that's why I think that way.

RIP Champ.

Spot on Synatax...miserable year in terms of losing some really great, inspirational people.
No Bowie and now Ali feels properly rubbish.

Ali has been part of my life and I do think he was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time.

But the truth is, as much as I admired him, I often rooted against him.

I loved Ernie "The Acorn" Shavers and rooted for him against Ali

Leon Spinks was born on the same day I was, and "Ali is the Greatest but Spinks is the Latest."

I liked GF in those days primarily because no one else did.

One of the greatest boxers ever. He transcended the sport of boxing more than any other boxer in history. His historical impact was tops. One of my favorite boxers when I was a child.

RIP Champ and the Greatest of All-Time now you belong to the ages.

A lot of great comments. we all knew this day would come, but it is still so sad. It was amazing that he lived as long as he did. He was of course a phenomenal athlete. He was so much more. Risked his whole career and much more while standing for what he believe in. He was a great humanatarian.
I guess most of us know these things. Looking at other people's comments its obvious that he meant a lot to people. He will be missed. However, his legacy and his spirit will always be with us.

Rest easy great one.....no one will ever come close...the end of an era....the butterfly has lost his wings.

I remember when Ali visited Ruiz - Valuev fight in December 2005 people were saying it will be his last public appearance, they said he will be dead by this time next year. They were wrong.

Then in February 2013 his brother Rahman Ali said that Muhammad most likely won't survive that year and can die very soon. "He's in a bad way," he told The Sun (U.K.). "He's very sick. It could be months, it could be days. I don't know if he'll last the summer. He's in God's hands. We hope he gently passes away." But Muhammad was still alive three years later. So even in his battle with that awful desease Ali has shown his greatness and shocked a lot of people lasting so long.

Ali's influence on boxing was unprecedented, so I think it's safe to say he was definitely The Greatest of all time. I also think he was the best heavyweight ever. He wasn't as dominant as Joe Louis, but his level of opposition was unparalleled in the history of heavyweight boxing, so I give him a slight edge over Joe.
