That's true look at guys like Trinidad, skinny guy, doubt he did much on the weights. I'm sure Joe Calzaghi said he never did weights at all during his career.

Of course you should lift weights… People who say that you shouldn't lift weights are pretty clueless. Olympic lifts - full body explosive movements are an absolute must. Archie Moore and Joe Calzaghe might have only done press ups but they were countering resistance and inertia every time they threw a punch.
You won't become slow and stiff at all, ensure you stretch and mobilise properly before and after training. Better then weights are woody bands.
Oh and bench pressing is pretty pointless. Think about the movement and the muscles that are being worked. Research open and closed kinetic chain movements.

Yes of course they should lift weights as long as its a sensible program solely functional to boxing its a no brainer.
If it isnt a sensible program functional to boxing then stay away.

Boxing aint just about throwing punces what about the holding pushing clinching etc also the clever intangables in close, strength plays a big part there

Of course, there's loads more to it than that, I've just found the kids who can punch can throw you about as well!

Tyson did weights. Holyfield did too and had Lee Haney bodybuilder and Tim hallmark as strength and conditioning coach to assist in . moving from cruiser to heavy to earn . more money. However there are two books on Amazon detailing various champions workouts .
