Nice highlight vid there , Joe Smith ! Got the power in both hands , good finisher . The fight was over so quick to get a solid read on him but will look forward to see his next fight and see what his gas tank is like .

Solid card, although Hugo Centeno laid an egg in what looked like a good match-up on paper.
He definitely had a lot of defensive gaps no doubt. Fonfara wasn't having a hard time finding him, but that's exactly what wound up getting him into trouble. He was connecting so easily on Smith that he got a bit carried away and just started opening up with abandon, and Smith wound up taking advantage with a big shot that ended Fonfara's night.

Smith definitely has flaws that guys can take advantage of, but his power is legit as well. Anyone that fights him is gonna have to be careful of his power at least in the early rounds.

Smith will now have the respect of the next real opponent he faces. And get picked apart.

Wouldn't surprise me none either. Depends who he's matched with.

I kinda would like to see Joe Smith Jr. vs Chavez Jr. just for the hell of it.

Put him in with Chad.
I mean real opponent with some punch resistance.

I watched this fight. Smith Jr. is talented enough that Fonfara should not have been taking him lightly. He seemingly punches well. Very nice left hook, good jab.

Smith is the type you employ movement against. And jab. A lot.

Yep, and stay out of exchanges if you can. There was definitely nothing fancy about him. He was a straight ahead brawler.

It's not impossible that Chad could outbox him. Chad just needs to be focused through the whole fight, and not get tagged with anything. Chad hasn't impressed lately, but at his peak he definitely could've outboxed a guy like Smith. It's not out of the question that he still could.

It looked like Fonfara staggered him a bit right before the first knockdown, then dropped his hands.

Perhaps he'll take that as a lesson not to get too comfortable.

I gave him a bit more credit than that. He worked well behind his jab, he keeps his hands up defensively, tucks his chin, he's a little bit wide, particularly with the right hand, got a good left hook but has a bad habit of leading with it which almost got him hurt. A bit plodding maybe. Not an A level fighter by any means but a strong B. His style reminded me of Nathan Cleverly. But this is my first and only time seeing the kid. I'm certainty not making a statement on his career or prospects. It's just that his performance was quite impressive for a kid who seemingly came out of the woodwork as far as I was concerned. He certainly wasn't on my radar.

Fonfara was hitting Smith with everything and got overzealous. The big shot that turned the fight was almost thrown with his eyes closed. He was taking shots and landed a Hail Mary.

Not sure I loved the stoppage either. Fonfara was getting up at 5 and the ref jumped on him to stop him from getting up. Strange.

You have to respect your adversary at all times, especially a puncher, and avoid brawling with him in the first rounds.

Fonfara hurt Smith with 2 left hooks and went in recklessly trying to finish it.

It reminds me a bit of fool Khan engaging Prescott in the very first rd.

Street fights belong to the streets. :bag:

Will be curious to see how they match Smith going forward. You KNOW Adonis is gonna try to fight him. And I won't be shocked one bit if it happens.

Very impressive win for Joe, huge upset. I think Fonfara underestimated Joe and he paid for that. I hope Joe will 'milk' his new status and get a shot at that WBC title. :OhYes:

Shocker. Bums me out but we've seen it a bunch of times before. Fighters see blood in the water and they throw defense out the window going for the stoppage and they get caught. I hope Fonfara learns from this and can come back from it.

Congrats to Smith though. He seems like a great kid.
