You only get one career/life. As annoying as the Eubanks appear to be, it's a business at the end of the day (tm) and and Snr had a long and hard career at the top level and knows that there's only so many top flight paydays and promoters are hardly the most altruistic of people.

Hard to earn money when you get cabbaged or have your bubble burst against someone who is clearly better than you.

Eubank Jr is 26. He's still got a fair few years left.jamesmcdonnell wrote:The concern is that he's going to keep repeating the same mistake.
This isn't the 1990's, boxers are not as well known in the UK as they once were, Eubank Sr acts as if his son is a huge star, but he's not, Chris Jr has a fairly small window to make money in, having started out quite late, and it's about maximising his earning potential, which isn't going to achieved by making ludicrous demands.
Sr's always been a primadonna, but his son lacks his charisma, and is operating in a very different era, he won't be able to get away with this shite.
Why isn't Warren getting abuse for Saunders not fighting Golovkin?
Since when is Golovkin the obvious opponent that everyone should be fighting? And every manager/promoter is an idiot for not arranging the fight?

I back him...
He believes Jnr is worth a certain value (even if the majority disagree with that value) and tries to negotiate for that. He truly believes that Jnr is the biggest star in boxing, if thats his belief then so be it. He has every right to go for a deal that benefits Jnr the most and good luck to them.

Correct, but if he wants to use a promotor such as Matchroom he has to accept certain parts of the promotion are their responsibility. If he wants to dictate every single matter, he should start his own promotional companynand promote their own events.jaymitch81 wrote:I back him...

Precisely, that's what Hatton, Mayweather and Calzaghe did ultimately, became their own promoters, you can't expect to have a promoter on board, and then dictate term to him, the promoter after all is the one putting up the money, you want to be in control, put your own money up, there's a reason that's not happened, Eubank wouldn't have the money to take the risk.ALI wrote:Correct, but if he wants to use a promotor such as Matchroom he has to accept certain parts of the promotion are their responsibility. Of course, it may all just have been a way of Eubank saving face, and avoid watching his son get pummelled shiteless, in which case it was all rather a waste of everyone's time.

Good point about him only being 26 & having plenty of time left but why go through all the hassle & make your team look like mugs if you have no interest in fighting mooted opponent?Horse wrote:Eubank Jr is 26. If I remember rightly it was Saunders who turned the fight down not Warren (I could be wrong though) but was Saunders getting the same deal that Eubank was/Brook is?
Saunders claims he was offered $2m whereas I think the Eubank/Brook purse is more than double that.
Also, Saunders does have a 'world' title which he can defend whereas Eubank is the one gunning for a title shot.

Most boxers are guilty of it, promoters particularly.

I don't agree entirely with your defense of Snr, but I do agree with this.Horse wrote:

Saunders is a world champion, Saunders got linked with the Golovkin fight before Jr did and Saunders has used Golovkins name to boost his name, despite having virtually no intention of fighting him, yet Saunders and Frank don't get the same grief.
As it happens, I don't necessarily think fighting Golovkin is the wisest move by team Eubank at the present moment, but they were the ones banding his name about since long before they were even British champions. If they were serious about fighting him, they've made an arse of themselves by refusing the fight for a big purse, then being shown up by a legit world champion taking the same deal for the fight and even having the balls coming up 2 weight divisions for a fight they are going to get slaughtered in, probably in an even more one sided manner that Jr would have

I'm sure it was Snr who ballsed it up, the man is a fooking idiot pure and simple but he believes he's some kind of smart cookie. However I also believe Kell was lined up as a replacement all along.
Hearn is a smart cookie, there is no way he would risk the prestige he will receive for getting GGG to these shores by letting the Eubanks hold him to ransom/ pull out at the last miniute. Hearn has dealt with Snr before and knew what a pleb he could be so he a solid contingency plan in place from day one so he wouldn't let GGG and his team down.

We've only heard from Hearn that there were outrageous demands. No doubt there were demands but he could have made the fight if he wanted to, he just had the option of putting his fighter in instead. Hearns done nothing wrong but I do wonder if he just couldn't be arsed negotiating anymore with people who are pain in the arses to negotiate with.keithmoonhangover wrote:By far the biggest fight of his son's career fell through because of his outrageous demands. A fight fell through, big deal.
And as far as it being a big deal, yes it is. This size of fight and opportunity may never present itself to him again.
Question is next time when he hasn't got a replacement and the Eubanks have him over a barrel what's going to happen then? I doubt they will forget this. Let's face it Eubank is one of the biggest fighters he has that he can put on before a main even which give his PPVs credibility.
Personally I think they will drop him in the shit by leaving sky when he is needed or have hearns pants down and arse rape him at some point.

There is absolutely no way he could have made the fight with the demands they were making, the control they wanted was ridiculous, if that's what they want then they can start their own promotional company and find a TV deal, then they can run the show.Finn wrote:We've only heard from Hearn that there were outrageous demands. Where else are they going to go? They've burnt their bridges everywhere, they fucked off Hennessy and he has no TV now, wouldn't exactly be a step up going with him anyway, Hearn has control of Sky and Warren's had enough of them. That leaves Cyclone on Channel 5 and I can't see McGuigan being too interested either, they haven't got many TV dates and they're not worth the hassle when there isn't that money in it without PPV. Other than that they'd have to go it alone, probably on Dave or a similar channel and Eubank Sr as a promoter would be a complete disaster.
Re: Is there anyone that backs Chris Sr after the weeks events?

Maybe he is telling the truth but the fact is Eubank Jr is a big draw and a big name promoters won't cut their nose off to spite their face. Warren would have him back any time, Haye would piddle in his pants to get him on a co promotion, Hennessy and mcguigan would greet him with open arms. He could potentially sign with al haymon or co sign with saureland and go global - he's an exciting fighter that brings entertainment and shifts tickets - it's brand Eubank and that is what sells.
If Brook gets smashed by GGG, loma steps up and takes crollas title, and if AJ get chinned when he finally fight someone with a pulse then hearns biggest name on his books is Bellew. And quite frankly all of those things are not unlikely to happen.

Did Hearn try his best to make the fight? Yes.

That's hardly conclusive evidence. If Hearn was trying his hardest to make the fight happen why didn't he tell Eubank straight that if he didn't sign the contract the fight was going go to brook?keithmoonhangover wrote:Is Eubank suing for deformation of character? His version of events of how brook surprised him by offering to step in over a run of the mill telephone conversation regarding Vargas contradicts GGGs camps version of how Hearn offered to call brook to see if he wanted the fight.
Eubank Jr has said stated that there was a sticking point in the contract and rather than sort it out Hearn went straight to brook and offered him the fight.

He did. He gave him a deadline to accept the contract. That deadline came and went and Eubank didn't even bother getting in touch. He could have had the fight with GGG and millions of pounds, but he let it go. Then Hearn was forced into plan B.Finn wrote:That's hardly conclusive evidence. Warren had to resort to dealing with them exclusively through lawyers when they were trying to make the Saunders rematch, why would he want him back? The only reason he'd be interested is to make the Saunders fight and the Eubanks don't want that fight either. What use does Haye have for him? He's filling the O2 as it is against shite opponents and doing big viewing figures, Eubank would just be an unnecessary expense on the undercard. Hennessy has no TV and they've already fucked him off once, McGuigan's Channel 5 money means that either Eubank would be taking a paycut or McGuigan would be losing money, neither of which are likely to happen anytime soon.
When he has ever shifted tickets outside of being in a big fight like Saunders or on big undercards? The Blackwell fight wasn't exactly full.
How are they going to go global? The only reason he's known here is the Eubank name and that isn't worth a wank outside the UK.

I'm not sure on the contract situation, but regardless, I think Hearn will stick with them if they are prepared to do so. I think he will offer them something else. Maybe chief support? It's business after all and business almost always comes first. Look at the amount of fighters who went back to a promoter they said they would never work with again.expe wrote:Some of those demands are so ridiculous that only the Eubanks could make them and I don't think anyone else would be able to think poo like that up to lie about, they haven't come out and denied any of it either.

The more I hear about this the more I feel desperately sorry for Junior. The poor kid's stuck between a rock and a hard place - on the one hand he sits there biting his tongue as his dad ruins his career and on the other hand he does the sensible thing, sacks his dad and ends up feeling guilty for Senior's inevitable psychological implosion as the sickening realization that his last chance at fame has gone dawns on him
