Golovkin's team should have offered more money then, don't see why Saunders should be expected to fight Golovkin for short money in his first defence. Re: Billy Joe Saunders
How much did they offer BJS to fight GGG then?
I think only two fights make Saunders any real money - GGG and the Eubank Jnr rematch, and I don't think he's the main attraction against either.
His lack of box office clout led to Jimmy Kilrain being brought onto the Lee bill as a world title challenger to sell tickets.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders
Somewhere in the region of $1-1.5m, nowhere near the numbers being thrown around in the press, no doubt put there by Golovkin's team, think that was the all in figure too before everyone, Warren included, took their cut. Considering that Saunders would have to travel, could make that and more in an easier fight against Eubank and has the WBO belt that Golovkin's after to complete the set, it wasn't a particularly good offer but some people are so far up Golovkin's arse that they consider it outrageous that Saunders didn't bow down and do as they wanted him to.magnus wrote:How much did they offer BJS to fight GGG then?

They put Kelly on there because he was ranked and they wanted an easy opponent for Smith's first defence, of all the options he was the best one because he could pay for his own purse as he was a local lad.
Re: Billy Joe Saunders
BJS would still have got a career best purse. Sure the apparent offer varies from online sources but it was in line with what Lemeiux got last year.expe wrote:Golovkin's team should have offered more money then, don't see why Saunders should be expected to fight Golovkin for short money in his first defence. The fact Lemeiux took the fight shows there are no excuses he just won the title and could have instead defended it in Canada to good crowds BJS can't do that.
His only other option is the Eubank rematch and FW negotiating with his SR will probably give him a heart attack.
And PS I certainly don't give GGG a pass for the Brook fight but that's for another thread.
Re: Billy Joe Saunders
He wouldn't have cleared 7 figures for travelling to the US to take on one of the top P4P fighters on the planet in a unification fight for his first defence. Just because it's a career best purse doesn't mean you take less than what you're worth for a fight.Naandrew wrote:BJS would still have got a career best purse. It's not just the Brook fight, it's all the shite about catchweights and being ducked, him and his team are massive hypocrites, Abel Sanchez in particular is a fornicating gobshite but it all gets ignored.

Saunders has made it perfectly clear in numerous interviews that he knows Golovkin would beat him, so wants a huge payday to make up for losing his unbeaten record.expe wrote:He wouldn't have cleared 7 figures for travelling to the US to take on one of the top P4P fighters on the planet in a unification fight for his first defence. Re: Billy Joe Saunders
So what do you think Saunders is actually worth, as from what i can see he's got no real fanbase, wider public profile or the right platform (in terms of TV)? Genuinely don't understand how you're valuing him.expe wrote:Just because it's a career best purse doesn't mean you take less than what you're worth for a fight.
Re: Billy Joe Saunders
It's just bullshit about him being ducked? Tell me again what Canelo did with his belt when GGG was lined up as his mandatory? What about Danny Jacobs saying he needed another 1.5 years before facing GGG and never trying to force his shot as the 'regular' WBA champ? Lou Dibella openly admitting when his fighter Martinez was champ that they wanted nothing to do with GGG? Cotto threatning to drop his WBC title if he were forced to face GGG? N'dam dropping his mandatory status to GGG's title so he could fight a soft opponent? Quillin saying he wanted $5-10m to fight GGG (you admitted on another thread that he ducked GGG). A fight at 168 was also being lined up with Chavez, someone who steamrolled the guy BJS won his title from, but Chavez acknowledged turning down a big money offer for that.expe wrote:He wouldn't have cleared 7 figures for travelling to the US to take on one of the top P4P fighters on the planet in a unification fight for his first defence. And of course BJS, who openly admitted that GGG would beat him, was offered a career best purse, but somehow you've put his value so high that he shouldn't even deign to consider such an offer.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders
After starting his career with a bang Murata has looked pretty lackluster to me, in the vein of his former amateur rival Khytrov. In both cases it looks to me like each fighter is capable of performing better than they do, but that extra something which could take them to the next level just seems to be missing at this point.
Murata is a strong stalker and I imagine that he could have his moments, particularly late if BJS fades again, but I think the latter would have a sufficient combination of skill and toughness to get through rough patches and win clearly on points.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders
A mate showed me a clip of Saunders the other day where he pretended to be a policeman and had some poor guy naked in his car on the pretence that he was searching him for weapons,as soon as the guy as naked Billy Joe started pissing himself laughing and the fella twigged
I dont know how old that clip was but what a prick of a guy,if the police charged him with that he'd get the book chucked at him

There's some comments about that video, and other cuntish stuff BJS has allegedly done, at the link below, but it seems like the vid has been taken down. I also recall other posters talking about a video in which BJS tells his kid to kick a seemingly random guy in the balls, and the kid goes up and does it. Great role model there.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders
It'd be easier to forgive BJS for not taking the GGG fight if he went out and had a fight with a top 10 MW like Jacobs or Lemieux, but when he turns down the #1 in his division and organises a fight with Max Bursak instead it's frustrating to say the least.
In the interview with Kugan he said the next opponent is someone everyone has heard of, someone like Curtis Stevens would be good.

Jeez it doesn't take much digging to find that Billy Joe is an on-camera nasty piece of work: he's really a prick, isn't he? Amazing. literally a small town bully, thick and cruel. No wonder he can't sell a ticket. He makes Broner seem likeable.crusader wrote:There's some comments about that video, and other cuntish stuff BJS has allegedly done, at the link below, but it seems like the vid has been taken down. If BJS can do 12 rounds at a good pace he wins relatively easily...but Murata's strength and power would be a serious problem when BJS slows downStuarty30 wrote:Who do you favour there? On another forum I've seen rumors of Saunders vs Gabe "Don't Call Me Recycled" Rosado for the Canelo undercard
Re: Billy Joe Saunders
Apparently BJS walked into the Peacock Gym yesterday and looked like he weight about 14 stone. I don’t think he got on a running machine or did any skipping while he was there. If you can’t bash up Rosado he’s not the sort of fighter it would be good to tire against.
