The Frampton fans in Manchester for the Quigg fight were very much Ulstermen, not Irish. I didn't see one tricolour and don't think they'd have been welcome.lefty wrote:Framptons not Irish .......
barry wasnt dual nationality ,i know he married a protestant, frampton is not dual either think he married a catholic .i think Wayne McCullough was the first boxer for me to break the divide i remember seeing him with a tricolour flag and thought he was catholic ,remember his fight with naz wanting him to win i was shocked when i read he was from the shankill road, and he will go down as one of my favourite boxersStuarty30 wrote:Yeah I think he's proud of his dual background/heritage. He has fans from both sides in Ireland and all over Britain just like his mentor McGuigan. He's just a very likeable guy. Apparently they've taken to him well in New York as well. Really hope he does thisCrease wrote:Whilst Cark comes from a protestant background, he fought for Ireland.lefty wrote:Framptons not Irish .......

I think the weight was the issue, sbw was killin himSupremo wrote:If he had any pride he would have fought Rigondeuax and attempted to prove he was the "world champion". Completely lost respect for him when he moved up to avoid him.
Money would no doubt have been the main factor here. Purists might hanker for a Frampton Rigo fight at 122 but broadcasters aren't prepared to pay big bucks for Rigo fights and so Carl at the age of 29 is chasing the fights that will earn him the most money, rightly so imothechump wrote:I think the weight was the issue, sbw was killin himSupremo wrote:If he had any pride he would have fought Rigondeuax and attempted to prove he was the "world champion". Frampton is doing exactly the right thing for his career and his family. Hes getting well paid now why should he take a big drop in money at this stage? He doesn't owe anyone anything.Supremo wrote:CaptainSpacerod wrote:Money would no doubt have been the main factor here. Depends what's more important to you- pride and legacy or a few hundred grand more in the bank.
I am a boxing fan, not an accountant.
I didn't say he was. I was talking about Frampton.brilo33 wrote:barry is not British he is an irish fighter in my eyesStuarty30 wrote:I just meant in the sense he's proud to be British/Irishbrilo33 wrote:

Because I and many others view boxing as a sport where proving yourself to be the best and taking on the biggest challenges and finding out how good you are is the point of its existence.samwbr wrote:Frampton is doing exactly the right thing for his career and his family. I'm sure most fighters see it differently. It's a short dangerous career and you should do what's best for yourself. From a fans perspective I agree with you but that being said LSC at Feather is a dangerous fight and a top contest.Supremo wrote:Because I and many others view boxing as a sport where proving yourself to be the best and taking on the biggest challenges and finding out how good you are is the point of its existence.samwbr wrote:Frampton is doing exactly the right thing for his career and his family. You and Frampton obviously see it as a business where the aim of the game is simply to maximise revenue.
I don't care about business and money and what financial success people get. I care about who is the best fighter and who has the most balls.
Somethings are more important than money to me.
I think he will get more respect and more money fighting lsc than he would rigo,no one likes rigo and imo frampton would of beat him anyway so lsc is a bigger fight at a bigger weight for a bigger pay packet and more dangerous,he doesnt need rigo and never has doneSupremo wrote:CaptainSpacerod wrote:Money would no doubt have been the main factor here. Well you and him are entitled to that view but just don't call yourself "world champion" because he was one in name only.
I'm a boxing fan, surely anyone on these boards is? It's all well and good talking about legacy but it's not us going through a training camp and putting our lives on the line. At the level of these fights you do the best for yourself.Supremo wrote:Because I and many others view boxing as a sport where proving yourself to be the best and taking on the biggest challenges and finding out how good you are is the point of its existence.samwbr wrote:Frampton is doing exactly the right thing for his career and his family. Santa Cruz isn't a top 10 P4Per or anything, so what would be so great about Frampton beating him?mullenman wrote:If Carl wins he is the greatest Irish fighter ever
