I think Haye is class and should stop him middle rounds

I thought Rothmann looked like a great fighter, but Thompson just has something that nobody else has, he keeps getting beat down and then winning. So unless we have a queasy ref expect to see Haye dominate and brutalise Thompson, until Thompson decides he's had enough and hits 'the one in the middle'. Thompson wins by KO round 4 or 5.

Rothmann is not a 'great fighter' good yes, great no. Rothmann lacked the power to finish the job, and basically got cocky, his corner were swearing at him (Harold Volbrecht?) to stop fornicating around and finish the job, but he was content to pick and poke and showboat, he paid the price.

Haye has got a heavyweight's power in those gloves, and Thompson has a light heavyweight's chin, Thompson has a chance seeing as Haye's chin is possibly suspect, but the odds are stacked against him in my book. If he wins, I will be the first to congratulate him.

I did not mean Rothmann was a great fighter, I meant that he looked great when he fought Thompson. I was impressed with his showboating and skills.

I just dont think anybody, even Haye is a shoo in to beat a man who hits so hard at such unexpected times as Thompson. Ask Eubank.

Eubank was an ageing super middleweight, hardly a fair comparison with the big hitting Haye. If Eubank can hurt Thompson, Haye can finish him.

However, Thompson has a chance of course. Trouble is, his defence is almost non-existent.

The fight that comes to mind for me is the Uriah Grant fight, which Thompson won but the equally fossilised Grant wobbled Thompson with jabs.

That was 3 years ago.

Thompson has done well to earn himself another pay-day of this size but whilst I hate writing off any fighter as brave, courageous, entertaining and powerful as Carl, I have to think Haye has the chance to dazzle in this fight.

Thompson will take it later than some here think, unless the referee jumps in the moment Carl is in trouble, I think Carl's bravery takes him into the 7th or 8th round.

Haye is going to be like a harbour shark around a dead tuna in this fight.

I don't see it going that long. Haye has very quick hands, and Carl has a porous defence. Haye will counter Carl with ease, and will hurt him with the first full blooded shot he lands.

Carl's legs look pretty shot too, his balance was awful against Rothmann, it's telling that the best shots he landed were from the ropes where he could use them for support. He was as slow as shit through a funnel in there.

Will be interesting to see how th bookies price it...I'd expect that Haye will be a very strong favourite.

I dont think Haye is going to come out blazing though. After the Williams fight that will be what Thompson expects - i think Haye will try and beat Thompson to the punch from distance and be wary of diving in the first time he pushes Carl to the ropes.

Chasing a KO1-2 could see him looking up from the canvas.

I expect Haye to have a little more respect for Thompson, try and break him down a little before he goes for the kill.

I agree, the thing is, I think the first time Haye hits him flush, it will have such an impact, that Haye will change tack. Remember, Williams was very defensive and covered up well against Haye, Carl doesn't fight that way, he tends to take 3 shots to land 1 of his own, against Haye that's a recipe for disaster.

True. And at 40 he's not going to change, he's a stubborn sod too and will refuse to believe he needs to change tact to beat Haye.

He'll think he can walk through Haye's punches and land his own.

That will be his entire tactic, take Haye's land my own.

Cant see it working.

Whatever the outcome it could be a very quick fight...

I doubt that Mock punches anywhere near as hard as Thompson.

Ali got decked by Cooper, and came back to win. Ali must have had a dodgy chin right (by your logic)? Afterall, he got tagged and went down?

The questions will remain over him until such time as he takes some flush shots from a genuine cruiserweight. Prior to that and following that, Haye hasn't really taken a punch thrown with any venom, it's perfectly natural that we remain dubious.

Ali was clocked by a hell of a punch by cooper, and despite being small, cooper was a known banger, it was called 'enry's 'ammer', not 'enry's feather!'

Nobody seems to have a copy of Carl Thompson-Rothmann from earlier this year. Did the BBC show the whole fight, or only the last few rounds ?

haye must give carl a lot of respect in the opening rounds or he will end up sparked.i wonder if a news paper will sponsor the soles of the boxers feet in this one becuase they would get plenty of publicity
