Without trying to be overly maudlin, the vast majority of my charitable giving is linked towards hospice/palliative care. I had the misfortune of seeing my mother die in her mid 50s from an aggressive form of cancer, and the folks at her hospice dignified an otherwise terrible situation.

I always thought of hospices as being very depressing places however, after we saw this particular local hospice on children in need a couple of years ago our work place started raising money for them and it's become "our" charity. If people visit the Zoe's place website I think they would be very surprise at just what type of environment and services they provide. Despite the very sad subject nature the place is lovely and delivers absolutely phenomenal care and counselling.

They are the complete opposite of depressing mate as you know and that's exactly how it should be. For me, its not just the amazing care they offer the children but they also help the families as well with constant support provided. The one I am connected with even has a family 'flat' in the complex so the family can actually be there full time if needed.

The children are so incredibly ill they need all the help they can get and these wonderful places do everything they can to make sure the child's days they have left on this earth are filled with as much Joy, wonder and care as they possibly can.

Its so close to my heart this Finn and its a wonderful thing you are doing

I very much appreciate you saying so mate and thank you for the donation. To be honest I don't think I would have been able to motivate myself to give up smoking, start getting shape and go through with it if it wasn't for such a fantastic cause.

Just a quick update, me and some of the lads on the team who work together have managed to convince (although it didn't take much convincing) the company director to hold a work place fundraising event in October with the proceeds going to our Zoe's place just giving page.

We've also some how managed to get 367 followers on our blog which follows our prep for the event - at http://www.runilads.wordpress.com if anyone would like to follow the blog please do it has updates about the fundraising, daft videos, etc.

Hi thought I'd just post a quick update we have around 3 weeks left to go until the event and have raised over £610.

I would like to say a huge thank you to you guys on boxerec who were so generous and really got the ball rolling on this, it spurred me on the get my work place and other people involved and aim for a much higher monetary target.

The other guys who have got involved are going to start getting their friends and family to donate over the next couple of weeks so we should raise even more money.
