WBA President Mendoza has reservations about how a Browne vs Oquendo fight might sell.
What Mendoza doesn't seem to realize is how starved Australian crowds have been for a heavyweight title fight. I think given the right promotion and using the right venue this fight will sell.

WBA like other major mobs doesn't have set sanction fee, it takes a percentage of overall purse. Whilst it would sell well here, gate & its purse might be better elsewhere

Would it be better for Lucas to be fighting in Europe if he becomes mandatory to the WBA Super belt?

I think the best we can hope for is Browne winning the strap and getting a defence fight here in Australia.

From what I'm hearing we can hope for more than that.

It's ridiculous, I know there is a lot of doubt surrounding all the events of his last fight but surely if you're found guilty of cheating you can't or shouldn't be able to just get another shot.
His appeal was successful. Russia was banned from this year's Olympics because of the pathetic state of their drug detection.

Perhaps nobody told him how successful Jeff Fenech's fights in Australia were financially.

It looks likely that the fight will be in China next year at about the date of Chinese New Year.

I would be surprised if it isn't held in Melbourne.

The venue and date for the Oquendo fight is undecided. There is a possibility promoter Brian Amatruda could put it on in Melbourne in November or December. while China in January has also been suggested.
Browne was in the US last week and visited the gym in Fort Lauderdale where he will spend time preparing for Oquendo.
“I will have a 10-week camp and spend 3-4 weeks in Florida where I’ll get a different level of sparring,” he said.
“Oquendo’s not a major drawcard and the money won’t be as big as say fighting David Haye. But it isn’t about the money side, I just want the belt. I’ve won it already and not been able to keep it.
“He’s 43 years old and crafty and won’t stand still. But he hasn’t fought in two years and he’s coming off a shoulder injury. There’s a difference between fighting someone else and fighting me who can knock you out with one punch.”
Despite his ordeal, Browne, 37, has remained upbeat and said there was one silver lining.
“Yes, I didn’t have to pay the purse back,” he said. “That was one good thing because I had already started spending some of it. I bought a Commodore for the family.”
Browne's manager Matt Clark, who was in Chechnya with Browne for the Chagaev fight, said the team felt vindicated by the WBA resolution.
"We're not sure how it got into his system while we there - if it was done deliberately (ie he was nobbled) or if he ate contaminated meat. I suppose we'll never know," Clark said.
"But we're happy this has now been settled and Lucas can look forward to fighting for the world title again.

Lucas Browne is hoping to spar Shannon Briggs and Antonio Tarver in the lead-up to fighting Fres Oquendo for the vacant WBA title early new year.

"To be perfectly honest, I'm slightly pissed off and I really want to do some damage to the next person," Lucas Browne said.
"I want to come out and show everyone I'm the world champion. It's going to hurt.
"Technically I was Australia's first heavyweight champion. I'm not sure if that stands to be honest.
"I'd like to make history again."
As for how the clenbuterol got into his system? Browne has his suspicions.
"I was given a steak the night before, at the weigh-in. So I'm assuming it's that," Browne said.
"But it's speculation."

Looking at the above WBA rankings, where Lucas Browne is listed at #5, and factoring in Tyson Fury's withdrawn from his world title defence against Wladmir Klitschko, Browne might just find himself in the right place at the right time.
With a cloud hanging over Tyson Fury's return to the ring, the WBA could potentially at some point declare their title vacant. This would automatically raise Lucas Browne's stocks and the potential for him to meet someone for the full title should he get past Fres Oquendo.

Only know that the WBA gave Browne and Oquendo 30 days to get set to meet inside 120 days back in the first week of September so the clock is ticking.
The WBA have joined the WBO in giving Tyson Fury 10 days to show why he shouldn't be stripped. So a window of opportunity may well open for Browne if he can get the job done on Oquendo.

Browne and Oquendo have until 1st week of January to agree on fight. One story is that it may be in China at time of Chinese New Year which starts on 28 January 2017.

in the first week of September the WBA gave them 30 days to agree on the fight and that they were to meet inside 120 days. That means early October the date should be set.

I only just realised that the WBA has an interim champ, and they're having a fight for their regular title that doesn't involve the untiring champ. Their entire orginisation is a fornicating joke.

On Briggs and Haye :
Lucas Browne says his fight with Oquendo is “court appointed’’ and he would only fight Haye or Briggs next if the Oquendo fight fell through.
“I would like to fight Briggs at some point,’’ he said.
“I’ll fight anyone anywhere and knockout anyone who comes against me.’’
