Would be interesting to contrast the preparation of Brook for Golovkin with the preparation of Khan going into the Alvarez fight. Khan's prep was more like Spinks training for Holmes or Hopkins for Tarver. Adding muscle, high tech strength and conditioning work, etc.

For all the good it did him.

For people saying Brook is too heavy here, Lemieux and Wade were half a pound different to Brook at this stage on the check weight.

Yes, but they didn't usually fight at 147.

Still looked very soft strangely.

I wouldnt read too much into what weight Brook is at the check weigh in. I have read a couple of things here that I agree with, firstly that he has probably had a meal & water etc just before the weigh in delibrately to boost his weight. Secondly that he is likely trying to fool people into thinking that hes not smaller and weaker than Golovkin.

Brook looks in decent shape considering his weight, I have seen others look bloated after moving up in weight (Burns, Khan, Marquez) to name a few but you can see that Brook is gonna be in great shape after he drains down a bit. Not that its gonna help him much once the bell rings as I still see it as a it of a mismatch, hopefully im wrong.

He doesnt need an 'excuse' if he loses this fight, its a fight he didnt have to take against a man that nobody else wants to fight.

I'm going to this and on holiday the week after. Would be great if Kell can give me some tips how I can lose 16 lbs before then as well.

True, a stomach full of water, will add about a kilo alone.

Which is 2lb, so he would still be a stone over the limit with a month to go

And this, for me, is the point. I'm sure he'll manage to make weight, but he's potentially spending important time over the next four weeks focused on that task, rather than being more on point and focusing on technique and tactics.

He hardly looks in poor shape.
I agree.

I've seen people say that he's chubby and out of shape just because of the 176 number, but actually looking at him tells another story. If there's no legerdemain and he really is 176 in the publicized pictures, the size difference between him and GGG is probably minor, and the two division gap is at least as much a reflection of different draining practices than it is a natural disparity in size.

There is not a chance Brook is going to fail to make weight. He has had the discipline and ability to make 147 so cant see him failing this time around. Crazy to even suggest otherwise imo.

So maybe Brook cuts a huge amount to get to 147 and isn't as small vis-a-vi GGG as some think? Even at 176 he's not looking soft like Khan was in the 160s.

The thing is what is Kells FIGHTING WEIGHT that's the only thing that matters what both walk around at in between fight's is as important as what the hell I weigh. :box:

Fighting weights are significantly impacted by how much someone chooses to cut beforehand. If Brook drains significantly more than GGG, and it seems like he does, just looking at their official fight weights gives a distorted picture of how big they are compared to one another.

It's very common for guys to move up in weight and still be as big or larger than fighters who were already there. Was Tony Bellew a little cruiserweight compared to Brudov and Masternak? Was Broner the smaller man in the ring when he jumped up two divisions and beat Paulie? Didn't Rances Barthelemy appear to be larger than Shafikov? That's what you get in an era of day before weigh-ins and extreme cutting.

On the assumption that you are not joking, Spence's team told Hearn that they weren't ready for the Brook fight.

I was a big fan of him but im sceptical he'll carry the 160 gracefully. I think he took this because the deal - biggest purse & home advantage - and the more "comfortable" I.e. eat more preparation.

Really hoping they're doing the weight properly. Don't want him to be a highlight reel KO victim.
This. Payday, able to eat, doesn't lose WW title.

dom ingle will have him well disciplined, there is no way this wont be a 100% well targetted training camp with no stone unturned. kell will go in there on fight night in the best condition he can, with the best training he can and with the best tactics he can to give him the best chance of shocking the world. seems ggg alwats walks round no more than a stone above the weight, froch was the same.....30 day pre fight weigh in means nothing, but rules are rules.

Don't know how he could think that, Kell has always been big for 147, when we have sparred him, in between fights, he has been very big, his power is massive when he above 12 stone, but when you spar him a week before his fight, when he is closer to 147, his power is a lot less, then it increases again on fight day, as his weight goes up again. Kell Brook's power will be greater at Middleweight, but if he Bulk's too much, his speed could be affected, not sure if he can take Golokin's power though, he has been rocked by smaller men before.
