He definitely got robbed but Katie Taylor didn't.

In Ireland everyone is going around saying Taylor got robbed.

Hes right about amateur boxing being corrupt...but pro boxing is just as bad...just more behind closed doors and bullshit politics. The competition format of the amateur boxing means its out there in the open for all to see

Pro boxing is even worse - as you say, the format of the championships puts boxers against each other. In the pros these fights wouldn't even be made and the un-connected boxer wouldn't even get the opportunity to get robbed!

Interestingly it was also an Irish judge that denied Levit the gold

I've not watched it yet so I can't comment and neither should anyone comment so strongly unless they know.

I agree.

Lots of robberies in amateur boxing, but people seem to scream injustice every time their fighter loses.

It happens in the pro game as well.

Only way to stop it is to fight til the last man is standing.

Any event where judges have to decide who wins or what the score is is open to abuse/bias. I have been watching a lot of they gymastics and diving at this Olympics. I`m not trained to ascertain what is required to get the best scores but I`m certain that the big names get better scores partly due to them being a name and being expected to do well.

In the gymnastics some poor Brazilian bird did a great floor exercise and got a rubbish score, yet the yank that came on next, despite being good, got a virtually perfect score. Same with the poor Ukranian bloke in the mens allround event. robbed at the last hurdle.

It just aint cricket.

Just watched the Conlan fight, whilst not as bad as the heavyweight final last night, Conlon was well and truly robbed.

Hope Shakur Stevenson absolutely schools him in the semis. That kid looks very promising.

Katie was well below her past best and didn't do enough to win. No one I've spoken to believes she deserved a win.

Absolutely gutted for Conlan but I'm looking forward to seeing him in the pros. He deserves better than what he was put through today.

Although this would have no bearing on the result of this fight, going by the rules explained in this article imagine this scenario.

Of the 5 judges, 3 favour boxer A, 2 favour boxer B, but depending on which 3 judges are randomly selected by the computer, boxer B could win by split decision.

There's got to be a better system than this to score a fight surely

It always happens that the host nation gets favoritism.

I've only personally seen three definite robberies this tournament (Nikitin twice, Tischenko the other), all the others where people have screamed 'robbery' I've just thought it was a close fight that went the wrong way. Coincidence the three robberies have all gone the way of Russians?

the weird thing this year is that Brazilian fighters' opponents seem to have got pretty fair judging?

This happens in every major amateur tournament. People seem to cry robbery pretty much whenever there is a competitive fight and the boxer from their country doesn't get it.

No doubt that there are problems with amateur scoring, and people like Conlan and Levit were legitimately hosed, but there's a whole lot of bellyaching that goes on in amateur boxing.

I did see Conlan, and he beat the Russian every possible way but power; the Russian hit harder, but Conlan was more aggressive for much of the time, much more accurate, much more evasive, much more cultured, and the Russian, while he looked like he hit a bit harder, never hurt him. He should have won every round.

Most of the time Conlan caught the punches on his gloves, whilst his opponent was getting caught clean, the judges needed to take that into account. it's about landing on the target, not just about throwing punches.

...and yet in the contest between the German and the Turk at lightweight, they seemed to give little credit for the countless shots the turk landed, as opposed to the handful per round the German did.

At best poor, and worst totally corrupt judging.
