De la hoya is a good fight but that's because De la Hoya was pressing. I do like watching him but its an acquired taste and I have to be in the mood. I was blown away my his work rate in both Echols and Johnson and wondering if theres any more similar to that, when he was reigning middleweight and was in his real physical prime.

Not a win but one of B-Hop’s best performances imo was his loss to a prime Roy Jones. He was the only one in that time period who gave Jones a close fight. Not that there was any disputing who the winner was but it was an 8-4 fight by my eye and a couple of the rounds I scored for Jones were close.

Another good performance in a loss was against Joe Calzaghe, which I thought Hopkins shaded.

In terms of his actual wins - Felix Trinidad was seen at a monster at the time Hopkins upset him but his moving up from 160 to 175 to unseat Antonio Tarver ranks the biggest win for me. Tarver complained that the weight he had to drop from his role in the Rocky movie was to blame for the one sided loss but I think he just couldn’t figure Hopkins out.

Hopkins was a lot more aggressive and entertaining in the earlier stages of his career.

he throws about 70 punches per round average against Tito, and several rounds in the 80-90 range, when tito was pressing him he lit him up like fucken Hiroshima, great performance

if you haven't seen it i'd compare it to Calzaghe- Lacy in terms of one aggressive but stupid fighter getting clowned by the dude with skills

Maybe you'd have more tolerance for his fights than I'd expect. I thought the De La Hoya fight was pretty damn dull

To me, the great Bernard Hopkins was better than the great Roy Jones, Jr.

I don't see Jones in the top 50 p4p all time greats. I do see BHop there though. In what position among the top 50? As of 2015-16, I rate him at #42.

I think his wins against Tito and Tarver were his best. But I think Tarver may have been drained.

His win over Winky wasn't impressive to me. Winky was never a 170 fighter.

His rematch over Roy meant absolutely nothing.

I don't see Bernard as the better fighter. But I respect his great longevity that Roy couldn't match.

They're both top 50, arguably 30.

I'll check out the tito fight asap then. Lacy-Calzaghe is in the top 20 of my favorite fights. Not a fan of Tito, I've seen Tito-Winky and apparently that was after Hopkins exposed Tito. Winky-Tito was a boxing lesson.

You'd have been a fan of Tito if you'd seen him during his tear in the 90's. One spectacular knockout after another, and he was a vicious finisher. I don't like when people use terms like "exposed" to describe what happened with Hopkins and Tito. Like that loss meant Tito was never any good at all, and he just knocked out people for 12 years because nobody had figured that out yet

I saw Jones-McCallum recently. McCallum looked soft and old in the body but I thought he gave Jones the first real challenge of his career in the early rounds. I've seen Hopkins-Jones but can't remember it being that competitive, i'll have to re-visit it. I'm sure people will berate me for saying this, but aside from Jones getting the knockout in most of his fights, his fights are frustrating and lackluster to watch as much as Hopkins can be, until he eventually knocks them out.

I think what was exposed was that he couldnt carry up that power. Not that he was shite, not that he wasn't any good at his career weight, he just couldn't bring up something he had in abundance before.

I just watched the trinidad fight. I think i'd seen half of it. Great performance by Hopkins. I was very surprised to see the knockdown in round 12 given Titos chin. He was exhausted and Hopkins was so precise. Good classic boxing fight.
