Not only to protect the boxers from these blood hungry promoters but I'd really like to see these fighters have some sort of retirement fund or aftercare programs to assist fighters when they hang up the gloves. Every other sport has it but not in Boxing. Sad.

And especially medical coverage. Severely injured boxers, even a headliner like Mago Abdusalamov, have to live on charity!
The Mago situation is disgusting, the blokes a virtual cabbage stuck in America in a dingy flat with a wife and 3 kids, I would of expected the klitchkos to help out seeing as it was their promotion and just to show a bit of solidarity

Absolutely.

Here is an article on Mago and boxing insurance in the NY Post just a few days ago:

Putting to one side you lot don't have free medical care for all anyway, this type of thing is crazy.

Many think British middleweight Michael Watson was the best out of the golden UK generation of Benn Eubank Collins and Watson. He suffered brain trauma during a fight with Eubank which changed UK rules

Watson's legacy was the compulsory attendance of an ambulance, paramedics, anaesthetist and oxygen at every licensed fight in Britain. The nearest neurological trauma unit should be within 10 minutes' reach of fight venues, with hospitals informed of promotions in advance.

Im not sure those figures are Correct. I know more than a few boxers and all they do is Box. If you are A side boxer you will only box . B side fighters have to have jobs to survive.

Literally 99% of boxers have second and third jobs. Only the elite make enough to live off. Many work doing manual labor as, let's face it, most guys who box don't come from strong social or educational backgrounds.

The only fighters who don't need a day job are:

1) The elite (champs and top contenders)
2) Notable veterans (former titlists with a decent following)
3) Hot prospects

Which probably amounts to like 5% of all boxers in total.

More like 0.5%

It's a shame these promoters shelf these fighters the way they do.
They do it to keep these guys desperate. And we all know it's being done.

Outside of Floyd ... every fighter is getting screwed.

Side jobs and getting paid to be sparring partners are the main sources of income for most boxers. The fighters mentioned in the original post have been lucky enough to get paid purses in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, so they're not the ones you need to be too worried about.

Stiverne - fought Arreola twice, Wilder, Ray Austin, etc.. He shouldn't need to worry about money as long as he spends it responsibly.
Jennings - fought Klitschko, Szpilka, Ortiz, etc.. He definitely shouldn't need to worry about money. Any top 10 fighter who fought Klitschko for 4 belts has made like $1.5 - 10 million.
Scott - Yeah, this dude has also fought Wilder, Chisora, Thompson, etc.. That's probably close to a million in gross income.
Ustinov - This dude is probably broke. He is lucky that he lives in Belarus, where the cost of living is less than half of what it is in America. It's astounding that he's 39 and his management is still protecting him from fighting top 50 opponents. They act like they've got 10 prime years left to work with.

Say what? His opponents keep bailing on him. Fury and now Ortiz.

I worked in the sport in UK for a while and came across very few who earn a living including loads of A side ones. Personal trainers, security and I remember one was a postman (mailman) . I even knew amateurs who stayed am because they made more money through sponsorship etc... than going pro.

I'll bet it's nowhere near 5%. Not over here anyway

I'll bet it's nowhere near 5%. Not worldwide anyway

I'm not worried, but wondering why they are not trying to make money as long as they can :maybe:
