I don't see why the size of the crowd is relevant to how the event is regarded.Rob3_142 wrote:Irrespective of whether this is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, it'll take place in front of a nominal crowd and be regarded as one of the all time greatest sporting forces.CaptainSpacerod wrote:Because you'll be watching two genuinely world class heavyweights fighting for the lineal Heavyweight Championship of the World
Sporting events don't come much bigger than that.
Haye's comeback fights for example have taken place in sold out venues in front of tens of thousands of rabid punters but would surely win any sporting farce of the year competititon
Re: Why are Fury tickets so much?
I've kept my ticket and I'm still going.
Yes it's bloody expensive, yes the undercard will be rubbish, yes hotels prices are already through the roof, and the fight will probably be awful. But it's a chance to see the 2 best heavyweights in the world in the UK, and one of them is British. Some times you just have to say bugger it and spend the cash.
Plus I had a cracking time for Quigg vs Frampton earlier this year, and ended up in a club where Pat Sharp (from funhouse) was the DJ.

My bad. Isn't Frank involved in the promotion and the event though? Doesn't he promote hughie now aswell?Manchester Hitman wrote:It's nothing to do with Frank he's not the promoter - this is all fat Mick and team Hennessy.lefty wrote:I'm guessing it's because it's not on PPV (correct me if im wrong) so frank is trying to make up the difference with these ridiculous ticket prices.
The first fight was a boring joke between two fcuken awkward lummoxes - IF it happens I will watch at home

Re: Why are Fury tickets so much?
The annoying thing is ticket prices are a tiny tiny tiny part of the income of the fight.clopixolacuphase wrote:but they didn't sell well before, and there was loads of people who got thier money back that probably won't be arsed to buy again. Fury fights are cursed for me: every time I've bought tickets for him there's been injuries or pull outs or cancellations or it's just been shite. I have given up on watching him live.bigjack wrote:Because they are demanding a very big payday each, that's why.
somebody is going to lose a lot of money.
let's say the average ticket is £200 a ticket and 20,000 fans turn up at the venue that's a mere £4m.
Can't remember purses from first fight but sure it was Fury ballpark $5m and Klitchko ballpark $18m. That's just basic without add ons.
so at £200 a ticket, with 20,000 attending, on basic purse fees alone, we have a 19m shortfall! This money is all made up from global TV rights - how much each country will pay for exclusive rights. The fight allegedly 500,000 ppv buys on sky in UK alone, that's £10m, although sky will have secured rights for a lot less.
The fight was shown in 150 countries worldwide. No idea what each country paid for the rights but if each of those 150 countries had a 25k surcharge on top of what they paid the average ticket price for fans would be £12.50

Well, Hughie Fury - Andy Ruiz doesn't sound that bad to me actually.Zubrei wrote:I've kept my ticket and I'm still going.

agreed. Still maintain Ruiz better than any AJ opponent thus far.asdfjkl wrote:Well, Hughie Fury - Andy Ruiz doesn't sound that bad to me actually.Zubrei wrote:I've kept my ticket and I'm still going.

Re: Why are Fury tickets so much?
It's to get Wlad over and without sky box office PPv.
If this was a Hearn promotion with sky behind it it would sell out in a few days due to better promotion and being able to charge less for tickets.
Peter Fury did say that prices for remaining tickets would be reasonable which was a lie because they are back in sale at the same prices.
Before the fight cancellation there were tickets available in every price catergory and not to mention loads will have got refunds particularly after the ukad stuff, klitchko saying he was suing and of course the two month silence from everyone involved. IF and a huge if it goes ahead the show will lose loads of money. Surely no one will get tickets at those prices who didn't have one before and actually think the fight goes ahead.
Personally see another injury in a few weeks.

Stumbled across this on Twitter.
It's the comparison with the Crolla Linares tickets.

Re: Why are Fury tickets so much?
The size of the purses, the location (not a stadium in Germany), the lack of PPV money (in this country) and a few other things contribute to this being a financial disaster. I won't be paying to watch a rematch of the most boring fight since Nelson-Deleon. No chance. Now, if a free ticket were to present itself....
Re: Why are Fury tickets so much?
Surely the promoters can't be willing to lose millions on this contest!
If that is indeed the potential outcome then I guess they will find a way to cancel/postpone the fight again.

Re: Why are Fury tickets so much?
You'd expect it to be somewhat more still, since this is actually for the No.1 in the division.Naandrew wrote:Stumbled across this on Twitter.

MJ, David Bowie, and Prince could be DJing and I still wouldn't fork out to see it live.Zubrei wrote:I've kept my ticket and I'm still going.

To be fair we did get Rod Stewart in the first fight in Germany - prices were cheap as welljamesmcdonnell wrote:MJ, David Bowie, and Prince could be DJing and I still wouldn't fork out to see it live.Zubrei wrote:I've kept my ticket and I'm still going.

Re: Why are Fury tickets so much?
I think in Germany boxing attracts a lot more sponsorship, and they get huge TV audiences, I believe that most of the fights are still free to air, Klit has a long running contract with ZDF.MacTavish wrote:To be fair we did get Rod Stewart in the first fight in Germany - prices were cheap as welljamesmcdonnell wrote:MJ, David Bowie, and Prince could be DJing and I still wouldn't fork out to see it live.Zubrei wrote:I've kept my ticket and I'm still going.

I think Wlad has more fans in Germany, than Fury does here as well.

Having said that I am paying £91 to go and see Kell Brook/GGG at the weekend. What odds this messageboard lights up post fight with threads about the biggest mismatch in history?!

how dare you, how very dare you. That's like saying "you so called Muslims have no issues spending your money on pyjamas and suicide vests".The General wrote: I bet you all so called "Working Men' have no issues spending your money on Beer and dope
Plus 24 cans of Stella and an eighth of green is nowhere near £106
Re: Why are Fury tickets so much?
I bought tickets for my old mans birthday and they are nothing special yet set me back a ton, Its ridiculous no wonder there are still second row tickets for sale! And does anyone know if the 1000 tickets are VIP like with matchroom? Just out of intrest comparing prices v that of an AJ fight. Hopefully the fight happens though!

Expensive yes. But do you think they are out to make friends? Or make money?mimmy123 wrote:just looked to buy 2 from Eventim and at the back block 217 £106 each. Why are tickets for this fight so expensive? Ive never seen anything like this before, right at the rear where you will have to watch the big live screen to see anything and the promoter expects you to pay over £100.

Well, our next charity show has been announced for the same date and I'm judging so that's me out. 600 sell out already and everyone who'd be going with me will be there as well. And it's a genuine charity show, £60,000 raised in the past two years. Minster FM fundraisers of the year.

Re: Why are Fury tickets so much?
Haye's comeback fight was a bit of a joke, especially considering the undercard and the level of opposition. However not even Haye was making that event to be on the level of a world title fight. It was free to air and tickets were a fraction of the cost of Fury/Klitchko.CaptainSpacerod wrote:I don't see why the size of the crowd is relevant to how the event is regarded.Rob3_142 wrote:Irrespective of whether this is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, it'll take place in front of a nominal crowd and be regarded as one of the all time greatest sporting forces.CaptainSpacerod wrote:Because you'll be watching two genuinely world class heavyweights fighting for the lineal Heavyweight Championship of the World

Unfortunately an event of such regard will be considered a failure in front of half a stadium. Poor promoting and greed will destroy this spectacle.
