If you take his recent cowardice aside and just look at his progress over the last couple of years, this kid just keep getting better. I personally think that he's one of the top 5 most devastating punchers right now in boxing. The combo's that he's throwing now mixed in with faints are impossible to stop at times. I'm talking about that faint left hand to the body that turns into a bomb overhand right that he's taking people out with now.
I'm no Canelo rump swab but just calling it like I see it. I think people still consider this the Canelo that got smoked by Floyd years ago. This is no longer that kid and we haven't even seen his best yet. But he deserves everything he's getting for ducking GGG. THAT, is unforgivable.
I often see people refer to Canelo as a major puncher, but I'm not sure if I agree.
Look at his KO victims---extremely chinny Khan and Kirkland, blown up flabby Lopez, and old worn-out Baldomir. He didn't come close to stopping chinny Trout, he never had little Cotto down or in notable trouble, Angulo took everything without being budged, and Lara absorbed some good bodyshots without being visibly hurt. Is he really
that much of a puncher?
Also, it shouldn't be assumed that just because someone is 26 they are yet to reach their prime; fighters peak differently and Canelo turned pro very young.
That's a pretty good point. He basically couldn't hit Angulo with more punches and he never left his feet. Maybe i'm wrong about his power. It just seems like he's throwing bombs in there. He's got a lot of pop on his punches but you're right, I don't think i can put someone down as a top puncher when he hasn't produced the numbers to back it.

After reading a retarded post from Smith's trainer, I am pretty sure Canelo wins in dominant fashion. Not sure about a KO, but definite win.
Smith's trainer is 90% sure when he beats Canelo they will get a call from Mayweather for a fight. What a delusional idiot.

Why anybody is still planning on fighting Mayweather anymore is beyond me. Some guys just can't get it that a guy is retired. Floyd would only be coming back for ridiculous money. A fight with Smith wouldn't bring that money.
If Floyd comes back there are only 3 fights that him and his team would give any consideration too. Cotto 2, Canelo 2 or Pac 2...all would bring guaranteed big money...the kinda money Floyd demands, no other opponent would be a big enough draw to justify paying Floyd what he wants.

It's possible. However, compared to Golovkin, it's far from likely. Golovkin is simply far more powerful than Canelo. Even then, Brook managed to gut out some hard shots before retiring against Golovkin.

I was very surprised he didn't come back for a soft touch for 50-0, then he could have added to his claim to be the best of all time.

Exactly how I see it. Two evenly matched fighters I think. Either winning wouldnt shock me.

But he might not get the nod (Trout & Lara)
I think only Andrade and the better Charlo clearly beat Canelo enough to get the decision.
But they'd still get screwed.
Both of the Charlo's are mediocre imo. Andrade is the best fighter at 154 bar Canelo or Lara. I think Andrade would have a great chance against both those guys aswell.

Yeah I'm a bit surprised by that too, but honestly it'd take more than even becoming 50-0 for him to become the Best of all Time in the eyes of most. For the people that actually buy his claim he's already there, and don't have a lot of knowledge of the sports history he's already there.

I think Demetrius Andrade might be right there with him in terms of talent, but Jermall has looked good lately.

Mayweather is allegedly back in the gym.

Yeah I heard that. The ridiculous kinda money he'd demand for a comeback though there's only a handful of names that could draw enough interest to justify paying him that much, and they'd all be against guys we've done seen him fight. Cotto 2, Pac 2, or Canelo 2 is the only way Floyd's gonna be making $100 Million or whatever crazy ass amount of money he expects.

Mine too, there's nothing he can do now would make him the best ever, short of KOing the winner of Fury v Wlad in 1 round.
However, that's not what the masses think, which is what Floyd cares about.

I mean if he came back and beat Golovkin by a clear UD that would go a long way in at least putting him in the conversation of being one of the best ever...but we all know he's not gonna do that, and if he planned on doing that he should've done it by now. Honestly at his age any comeback opponent wouldn't be a gimme anymore. He's a fighter that relies greatly on his speed and reflexes. That's some of the first stuff to go for a fighter.

GGG didn't knock out Brook so I doubt Canelo could, GGG is a special fighter Canelo is fairly ordinary IMO, hence why he will never face GGG or not until he's seriously declined.

I've always thought when Canelo was beating up Welters at Caneloweight that Brook was the only one in the world who could cause the upset. I'm even more confident of that now.
But Alfredo had to get his face torn apart to do so.
Yes, you can sell out against Lara.
But he is going to hit you CLEAN and ACCURATELY in the face 25+ times before you begin to hurt him.
