I always remember Smith from The Contender series, when they said out of all the fighters he had the most powerful punch when measured on the punch machine. Can't even remember what happened to him in that series now, think maybe got injured and pulled out.

Don't get me wrong, that was a decent display (although I think the "robbery" bollocks was, well, bollocks). However, the guy should be fighting at British title/Euro level, not constantly getting opportunities others would gnaw their own fingers off for, whilst only beating up on journeymen in between.

To be fair Martin Murray and George Groves can't complain at lack of top level opportunities.

I agree, both better fighters and more deserving that P Smith, but hardly short on chances (which they consistently come up just short in)

Have either of them had a better chance than against someone like de carolis though?

With Callum's WBC mandatory spot and Jack/Chunky's probable unification, the WBC and IBF belts are out of reach. I don't think he'd have much interest in fighting Ramirez, nor would they have much interest in him after the Ward debacle.

Not sure what the deal with the WBA Super title is after the Sturm/Chudinov fight and Sturm's failed test. That leaves the other WBA belt which has pretty much been fought for by European level fighters since Froch retired and would therefore seem the obvious route for him, especially with the Sauerland's having their hands on it and Smith being fairly well known in Germany after the Abraham fights.

So I'm sure we're all looking forward to him mysteriously appearing in the WBA rankings in the coming months despite adding no decent wins to his resume after his last title shot.

Yeah i remember that too,he did pull out injured,didnt he have a couple of fights under Buddy McGirt who i think trained him in the Contender?

He fought the guy Banks I think? David Banks? Can't be sure. I think he got cut in that fight then had to pull out.

Just checked there. Was a guy David Banks he beat on a SD. I remember the guy was a bit of a cock and Smith got cut. Sure he withdrew because of the cut.

Ah right,i watched all the Contender's but it peaked after the 1st series for me,i used to watch it every week with a few mates and they used to love all the slow motion,Rocky-esque theatrics when the fight was on but it peeved me right off

He didn't qualify for the next stage as only the best 4 winners did or something like that

Won first fight, but did not score high enough on the power rankings to make the semifinals

As well, he was declared medically un-eligible with a bad cut on his nose.

The cut didn't matter because he was going to be leaving the show anyway.

Yeh I gave up after the first series, which was watchable but I agree for real boxing fans it was hard work. They didn't show the fights properly and the cheesy commentary and comments from Stallone/Sugar Ray finished me off.

He isn't the only boxer in today's climate that gets opportunities he doesn't deserve.

That's very true mate......Smith is a good lad, with real heart and spirit.....Id love for him to study old Roberto duran tapes of duran at MW during 86-89 and just watch little slick defensive moves and pivots, body positioning and learn from it.......
