Frazier was easily manageable by a big, powerhouse Heavyweight with 45's and uppercuts. Very easy for Foreman to hit, a mouth watering target who led with his head, like Ken Norton .... Tyson was almost as wide open a target as Frazier, but bigger, stronger, and faster. Little Mike was dead meat for Douglas and Lewis, who couldn't wait to get at him .... Dempsey and Foreman were easy marks for a brilliant jabber with a rifle right .... Johnson was very difficult to hit cleanly, but not very big at 6'1" X 208 in perfect condition for Jeffries. I see JJ having problems with bigger, taller, very skillful boxers with much big reach advantages .... Tunney was too small. 192 at his heaviest ... Louis could be outboxed by any Heavyweight with Billy Conn's skills combined with tremendous height, weight, and reach. Bear in mind that Conn could be hit. He lost 11 fights .... Ali lost to Norton and Frazier and wasn't a scary boxer or puncher. Too easy for skilled boxers to hit .... Holmes was a great boxer, but not a great puncher. He hit the deck from hard rights 3 or 4 times .... Lewis was a great boxer-puncher with tremendous height, size, reach, and strength, but LL could be reached by a good right hand puncher. Lewis could be taken out with 1 shot anytime from round 1 to round 12. He was vulnerable .... Wladimir Klitschko always seemed hesitant and scared. He's reluctant to get back in the ring with fat and flabby Fury after losing badly .... Vitali Kltschko had badly battered legs from Kickboxing that bothered him his whole career. As a result he was a bit stiff and slow.

At the present time I don't see any holes in the game of Anthony Joshua... He has height, weight, reach, speed, skills, and resistance... He has an inside game, an outside game, a body attack, a strong defense, great balance, timing, and the best right counter shot in the division... He has the height, size, and strength of a Klitschko; the chin of Dempsey; the speed and power of Tyson; the jab of Holmes; the reach of Lewis; the cleverness of Tunney; the conditioning of Wladimir; and the perseverance of Holyfield.

Don't tell me how green AJ is or that it's too early to rate him... Tell me where he has more holes in his game than the above ATG Heavyweights. What punch is AJ lacking? What does he get hit with? What would he get hit with if he faced Fury, Wlad, or Ortiz? Anything that might drop him? I don't see how they get to him. Who has been able to reach him, floor him, stop him, or pound on him? Nobody has come close. I see a slight problem if he fought Ortiz right now---but I don't see that fight happening for 2 years.
Just play the effing game!

There's being a troll, then there's just being a disagreeable arsewipe for the fun of it.
You're being an asswipe. Any past ATG had holes in his game. Joshua is the most formidable guy so far because he's looked air tight to date.
Except the time when the limited Dillian Whyte walloped him & stunned him to his boots.

For me, I would definitely have to agree with Mr Tomasino when he said;

It would be a genuinely terrifying prospect. (But a great honour all the same, if that makes any sense at all)
davie wrote:Who, if you were a fighter, would you avoid like the plague? And why???
I'd always imagine that if you were fighting someone like an Ali, Walcott or a Patterson that they would spend a round or two flicking their jabs out and watching what way you move. They would allow you time to settle in and (perhaps) even enjoy yourself for a bit.

But if you were to face a Rocky Marciano - you're talking about unceasing aggression, unbridled fury, a great engine and explosive power in both fists.
Personally, I think any of us would be doing well to get out of the first round.

Of course that probably goes for several other fighters as well, but I know damn well those guys would jump on me without mercy.
Good answer. I would probably err on Tyson just because of that combination of speed, power and aggression.

Literally every man who has ever laced on a pair of gloves would be tied for first place. Most of them would probably make me cry during the ring instructions. Many would kill me, although I'm certain some of them would feel bad about doing so.

If I had actual skills, I would avoid the Fritzie Zivics and Mysterious Billy Smiths of the world. You might win, but you'll take a lot of damage getting there. You could easily lose, especially if they anger you enough to match them foul for foul.

glad you mention those guys but zivic was a superb boxer into the bargain. highly skilled and you wouldn't win a round against him

It was a real good shot to the chin, but Joshua didn't go down... he didn't stagger... he didn't go wobble legged... he didn't clinch or grab... he didn't run... he was back on the attack before the round was over... Joshua took control and beat his undefeated and more experienced opponent by brutal KO... None of the numerous head shots Foreman ripped little Joe Frazier with stretched the little guy for the count... 6'4" X 245-pound Whyte was supposed to have a rock solid chin and he got iced... There never was a single world famous boxer who never got hit real good - including AJ... What happens when you get hit real good? That's the question.

Ali was decked hard and hurt by huge underdogs Sonny Banks and Henry Cooper, who weighed 185... Louis was knocked out by a 10/1 underdog who weighed 192... Johnson was knocked out by 170-pound Joe Choynski... Tyson was knocked out by a 42/1 underdog who had a weak chin... Liston was beaten by a 180-pounder... Lewis was flattened by 2 underdogs... Holmes was beaten by a Light Heavyweight... Holyfield was beaten up and stopped by a blown up MIddleweight... Foreman was finessed and floored by a feather hitting underdog... Wlad was a chronic clincher and has been floored 9 times... Fury was floored by a Cruiserweight. He's looking at a short title reign if he fights AJ... Compared to that group AJ is the least desirable to fight... How do you fight him??? ... There are ways to beat the others -- the blueprint is there.

Very true about Zivic. Any man who has wins against Armstrong, Burley, LaMotta, Jenkins, Angott and so many others, is formidable.

BTW, let me make it clear, not only would I be beaten by every man who ever stepped in the ring, I'm sure all the women who have done so would kick my ass as well.

If you're in the ring with Tyson or Marciano or Frazier (or even Duran or RJJ) you've got a story you can dine out on for life - the quicker you get KO'd the better the story is if anything. So for that reason the last man I'd get in the ring with would probably be Bert Cooper - he may as well be Mike Tyson seeing as I'm not a heavyweight and not a boxer, and he would absolutely f**k me up with his power and ferocity. And what would I have to show for it? Concussion, trauma, and a story that most people wouldn't be even the slightest bit interested in.

It is an excellent read Crease..and although Nigel is a good dad and husband, as well as a god-fearing man and great raconteur at sporting events now...there's no escaping the fact that he really put it on people when he fought and was not too bothered by the hurt side of things.

There's a brilliant documentary out there about his childhood and early adult life and you understand where he's coming from...which is a very hard place indeed and well before he'd boxed he was a very hardened, ferocious guy.

Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxWQPqDs8yE and the other parts should be available.

Of anyone in boxing history? No matter the weight class? Probably George Foreman or Earnie Shavers. They had the kind of power that could literally kill you, and they wouldn't be throwing at 100% power.

Probably Herol. If you fought a puncher, he‘d close the show early. WHAM BAM, end of fight. With Herol, you‘d be swinging at the air and getting frustrated. Then he‘d hurt you.

Graham is an interesting choice.......made good fighters look foolish/clueless and the more you tried to close the distance and rough him-up the more often and cleanly you get countered and the rounds keep on slipping by.

He was doing just that against Jackson who was beginning to look a bit sorry for himself/bemused but made the fatal mistake of switching-off for a few seconds against a guy with the rare ability to poleaxe you with a single shot.

Froch must have been a right nightmare as well..........

.......smack him hard and clean and the fella does not even flinch or blink, outbox him for the best part of three minutes but he somehow cracks you with a couple of hard shots and draws the round, and he's always, always there because he has that great engine and never-stop attitude.

Froch broke a lot of guys with seemingly more natural talent and I still think he's the best win on Ward's resume.

Greb seemed like the kind of guy who enjoyed being as dirty as possible and torturing overmatched opponents.

It would be no picnic letting Greb batter, butt, thumb, gouge, choke and whatever else round after round.

Greb would have reveled in MMA.

Does Greb really have that dirty rep? I think Klomptons book characterizes him as fairly pragmatic....but willing to fight fire with fire when needed. And since there is no film of the guy.....I'm not sure we'll ever really know. Since some people seem to be invested in singing his praises, and others with sullying his reputation.
