I'd say Smith would just about scrape into Canelo's top 10 opponents.

Would be a massive upset for him to win this. Got that Pavlik/Lockett, Cotto/Jennings feel about it

I think it's a bit better than that, but we'll see I guess! Jennings didn't really have any sort of dig on him and Lockett was a very limited type. I'd put Liam Smith at decent Euro level, fringe world level, just don't think he'll have enough tonight but I think those comprarisons are a bit off.

Who???
This. I've not seen one post that has even said there is a chance of this happening let alone stating it will happen.

I think (hope) Smith can go 12
could he have a chance with body shots ? canelo is a high waist band man. i always get the feeling that boxers that wear a guard high with shorts several inches above their belly button are giving a small tell they really don't like body shots ,i know no one actually likes getting hit to the body, but there are some that take them worse than others.

For me the punch that gives Smith real problems, potentially, is the looping long right uppercut/hook Canelo loves to throw coming in behind the jab. Smith typically stands at mid-range square-on with a high guard - I can see that punch crashing straight through his gloves over and over, especially given Smith's typical Gallagher gym lack of head movement.

Initially I was all set to put money on the 3-1 Canelo PTS bet - that seemed such good odds given that Canelo is a good but not great puncher at world level - but having reviewed Smith's record I cannot find any evidence that he has the chin to stand up to a proper world-class puncher, and we know from his style that he's not going to be evading many of those shots. Maybe yes, maybe no - but for me, not enough evidence the bookies have those odds wrong.

In any event I'll be watching tonight in an LA bar - expecting a totally partisan crowd and a lot of cheering every time Canelo's right lands!
