Why does Joe Gallagher not own his own gym?
Re: Why does Joe Gallagher not own his own gym?
You could ask the same question about Johnny Eames, simple, the money isn't there for the trainers. Tony Sims has a gym because of the Hearns, it isn't his.
Re: Why does Joe Gallagher not own his own gym?
Why aren't all boxers full time??
Simple, because the money isn't there for most, real boxing isn't like in the films.

World renowned?TopGun wrote:It seems crazy that he still uses Khan's gym? Surely being a world renowned trainer now he would have his own? Surely he has the money too?
Re: Why does Joe Gallagher not own his own gym?
Is Joe not full-time even with his huge and fairly high level stable?
Re: Why does Joe Gallagher not own his own gym?
In the last fortnight Paul Smith, Callum Smith, Liam Smith, Marcus Morrison, Hosea Burton, Callum Johnson and Anthony Crolla have all boxed. If Gallagher is on the traditional trainers fee of 10% he has surely earned enough money to purchase some soap and have a bath.Coco wrote:Owning gyms costs money, even with a successful stable trainers still need a day job to live. How much do you think they guy earns?

Fit's it all in around his shifts at Tesco.crusader wrote:Is Joe not full-time even with his huge and fairly high level stable?
That's where he's gone wrong, he should have jumped ship to Aldi's years back, he'd own his own gym by now if he had.

Work out how much the 10% is, put that over the course of a year(allowing for other fights) tax, living expenses, and see how much is left.BigDoofus wrote:In the last fortnight Paul Smith, Callum Smith, Liam Smith, Marcus Morrison, Hosea Burton, Callum Johnson and Anthony Crolla have all boxed. Even if he is grossing 50k, is it really enough to run it?
Especially if he has a good rate to work at Khan's gym, trainers aren't rich men. The only way to run gyms is to spend time with the keep fitters to keep the wolves from the door. Doing it this way he can spend the time with his fighters.

Re: Why does Joe Gallagher not own his own gym?
Not that I know of, but I don't know the guy, so if that is the case I bet he is only making ends meet, without the additional costs of owning a gym.lefty wrote:Does Gallagher have a day job now? I'm guessing it's more than that in a fortnight never mind a year.Coco wrote:Work out how much the 10% is, put that over the course of a year(allowing for other fights) tax, living expenses, and see how much is left.BigDoofus wrote:In the last fortnight Paul Smith, Callum Smith, Liam Smith, Marcus Morrison, Hosea Burton, Callum Johnson and Anthony Crolla have all boxed. Liam must have got a wedge. Quigg certainly did. He's had a good year. He'll be on Tesco's Finest now.

John Simpson works in Aldi Greenock. Maybe he's saving up for a gym? Not sure if he's fighting again.davie wrote:Fit's it all in around his shifts at Tesco.crusader wrote:Is Joe not full-time even with his huge and fairly high level stable?

I couldn't even start to imagine what Gallagher earns, but if it's over one and a quarter mill a year I'll fall over with shockBigDoofus wrote:Go on then know-it-all. What were the seven purses?davie wrote:You're not very good at guessing thenBigDoofus wrote:

Re: Why does Joe Gallagher not own his own gym?
Overall there's no money being a trainer , in fact it cost me money , you would take a coach load of kids to a show , when you got there the little bleeders had no money or , if they did, they hid it in there sock and cried poverty and hunger ,, then i'd have to dig in the pockets and buy them all a hot dog and a drink , But in his case summising he's on 10% 10% of a million is 100,000 not chump change is it , and thats if Smith got a million or over for his fight ,, then theres Quiggg , Crollaa PLUS PLUS AND PLUS .... bET HE WISHES THAT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR

I used to work for aldi. Great wages. The minimum pay in the warehouse is £9.80.

Don't forget Gallagher is a lot of his fighters manager as well as their trainer.

Agree, mate, although the meth comment cracked me upALI wrote:Why all the hatred toward Joe Gallagher? Seems decent enough when i watch his interviews.
The internet can be a cruel place. Dont just think of the man himself, he could have family, friends etc reading this dribble. All sounds rather unfounded to me.
But it's just typical British style. If someone is reasonably successful we try to bring them down to our level.
Re: Why does Joe Gallagher not own his own gym?
Simpson was a great wee fighter, the shop lifting statistics in the Greenock Aldi store will have dropped considerably.
Either way Gallagher clearly loves his job, if he is making a comfortable living doing what he loves then he is already wealthier than most people.

From what I've heard in most positions they pay you double the wage of a competitor but expect triple the work rate. A friend of a friend did one of those area manager graduate schemes and jacked it in after a short while as he was doing 80 hours a week.Tomasino wrote:Stuarty30 wrote:John Simpson works in Aldi Greenock.
