I have been in a BAD mood all day because of the result and so has my brother. I felt like crying for Mike Tyson.

well, bastard blue square online didn't give me their free 5 pound bet like promised. also only had danny at 6/1 as opposed to 13/2 so i lost out. 120 quid still nice though. :D

nice finish from danny, i also couldn't believe how he took those shots from tyson and came back so well. i didn't expect that type of character from williams, well done to him. he'll still lose to any of the paper champs. danny has already proved himself a domestic fighter. that may as well have been pele reid in there opposite him. meh, maybe not, i dunno.

i've only seen the news footage so far. WELL DONE ITV for actually bothering to do a proper report as opposed to the f**kin bbc who had that idiot steve bunce talking s**t and a retarded single photo of mike tyson on the canvas during the sound clip.

does anyone think danny would have beaten the tyson who whipped julius francis?

I not foolish enough to try and reason with a hardcore Tyson fan but...

This might very well be a cruel world but that's not why Tyson is not retired with millions and millions in the bank. Surely you can't disagree that Tyson himself bears virtually all of the responsibility for his predicament?

To Riddick, The Freddie Roach trained Tyson we saw last night was a good deal better technically and quite probably fitter than the one that fought for 4 minutes against Julius.

Ok finally for my point. No-one has mentioned how fit Danny was at such a size. Obviously he took quite a shellacking along the way, was throwing plenty of bombs himself and by the end didn't seem too winded while he was throwing 30 or so hard shots to finish.

Not bad for a 19 stone guy. Do you think he should try and trim down in future or has McDonnell got found a way to get him in good enough shape even that heavy?

The BBC must be lame or something. I was listening to the RADIO this morning here in the US, and Williams -Tyson was the top story. Every half an hour they would announce the (shocking, supposedly) result along with a live AUDIO clip of the ringside commentator freaking out, you know, as Tyson was being counted out (the crowd was ballistic...'sounded good on the radio). Then they would play a quick interview sound-byte with Danny Williams in the ring, post-fight.

So, cheers to Danny Williams. He had an oppurtunity, and he seized it.

I was still doubting Danny right up until the end. I'm amazed he managed to take some of the shots he did, i thought he showed great survival skills because at several points during the fight he looked out on his feet. A fantastic result for him, but i still have my reservations about his long term prospects. This could give him the type of confidence he's never really had before, but, as Bennie has said in another thread, the old mental problems could resurface when he's actually expected to win a big fight.

As for Tyson, the only sensible option is retirement. If Williams (who has never even been at the top of the tree in europe) can do that to him, then everyone else is going to go in there fancying their chances. If that occurs then it takes away one of the only two weapons that Tyson has left, the intimidation factor.

I watched the fight on Canal Neuve ( thanks to the good folk on this site )

Weird in so many ways. The Coverage was exactly the same with battered old pro's and a slightly scary anchor, but just speaking Spanish. Boy the Argentinian version of Mcguigan has sure ben hit with the ugly stick a few times

As for the fight. I called it WRONG. I guess, like so many, I thought Tyson would have to much for the perennial underachiever and I was wrong

The knee is just a smokescreen to allow the guy some dignity and, after that pitiful walk from the ring, he is allowed that at least.

I can understand how his fans ( of which I am definitely not one ) want to cling on. I did so with Ali to the point when I thought he could come back against Holmes. But, in the end, time and bad living had rendered his skills ( overated IMHO, but what the heck ) null and void

I think/hope he will retire, but he wont. He can't afford to.

Whatever, I tell you one thing for 1000% certain. Boxing is poorer for his leaving it. It will be less interesting and generate less money

Despite my finding so much of what he has done in the past repugnant. I wish him peace and an end more dignified than Liston or Louis.

We are quick to worship, but equally quick to forget

Thanks for making it a rollercoaster Mike

As for DW. A thoroughly decent bloke who deserves his day in the some. I sure hope he is up to making the most of it.

It was a great performance. Took some power shots and threw back with really bad intentions

Tyson has been shot to bits for years but I was still surprised...Williams has talent but is far from a world beater so this was a shock result!

Tyson's punches didnt seem to be carrying anywhere near as much power and he was clearly tired very early...Either way this result says much more about the state of Tyson than anything overly impressive about Williams.

Yes Williams took some good shots but Tyson wasnt throwing with anywhere near the power he used to, His punches had no snap and I for one will be glad if he never fights again.

I never expected Danny to win but am not that impressed that he did...A fighter that is exposed by the likes of Francis,Sam and Sprott isnt a world beater and never will be.

Enjoy Danny as it wont last.

True, the speed is gone, but you have to credit Danny, Tyson looked pretty sharp for two rounds, and he landed LOADS of shot on Williams. Danny sucked it up and got back to work.

If he can peform with that level of fire and intensity again, he can go further. I stll don't see many guys out there who could have done Tyson over in 4 rounds. Danny hit him with a real torrent of shots, and he showed that he has the firepower to hurt anyone if he lands that sequence.

Look at the division, who out there would DEFINETLY beat Williams if he performed like that? Byrd, possibly, but he looked SHIT against Oqeundo. Ruiz would probably bore his way to a decision. Brewster might outwork him, but maybe not. Klitchsko, I cannot see Danny being able to beat him, too big, too strong, too fit, too fearless and too powerful. Aside from that, provided Danny can keep that fire in his heart, he's got as good a chance as anyone of winning a title belt.

Rocky Balboa wrote:Excuse the language, but I am absolutely fornicating gutted by the result. I am a real, real Mike Tyson through and through.

We all knew Tyson is years away from his best, and know he will never be the same again, but I thought he would have beaten Danny Williams.

However, before everyone starts counting Tyson out and saying he definitely finished etc, at the end of the first round Tyson twisted his left knee. When he went back to his corner after the first, he told Freddie he could not pivot properly, and he could not turn over the left hook properly.

People may feel I am just making excuses, but that I am not, because that's the last thing Mike Tyson would do.

I have been in a BAD mood all day because of the result and so has my brother. I felt like crying for Mike Tyson.

Hell, the man should not even be figting now. He should have been retired years ago, millions and millions in the bank and savouring the fruits of his labour. Instead of that, he is now fihting for money - man, this is a cruel world sometimes.

We all know Tyson has lived dangerously over the years, squandered the money, but people have taken advantage of him. Don King is no good, no good at all. The man is a snake. I wish I was there when Tyson booted him in the face in Los Angeles in 1998!

Words really cannot describe how I feel. It does not go away after a while, a few hours etc. I felt the same when he lost to Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis.

Another thing, Freddie Roach is a good trainer who means well for Tyson. Roach is honest and a good dsciplined man. However, Tyson cannot be in great shape when 233lbs, 16st 9lbs. He may have looked solid and in shape, and I admit, he looked a lot more solid than when he foguht Lewis, but that is simply to heavy for him. At the most, Mike should be weighing 224 lbs, no more than that.

I am going to see how the press react to the result. If they start slagging Mike off etc, like they have done for years, I will be writing to the newspapers and magazines etc.

Mike Tyson is a legend, an all time great heavyweight. It saddens me to see what is happened to him, it really is a shame. There is not, and I am sure will not, be a more sad and emotional story in the sport, than the one of Mike Tyson.

A decision needs to be made on his future, and quick. I hope he does not just sit around and over-eat and put on loads of weight, then come back again. If he is going to box again, it needs to be ASAP. As soon as the left knee heels etc.
Bollocks mate, you ARE making excuses. There's fornicate all wrong with his left knee, it's his pride that's injured, and Shelley Finkel's finances. They are desperate to recycle Mike, so they need some bollocks excuse about him not being 100%.

I bet your one of the many who were saying how great Mike looked in training

Tyson was throwing a lot of full blooded punches for someone with a 'torn' ligament. If you tear a ligament, you wouldn't be able to walk let alone throw murderous hooks.

Tyson is finished. Four times people have sucked it up when he took the fight to them early, and fired back with their own shots, and four times it's ended with Mike being knocked out. He was great for a brief period in his prime, but he's over, he has as much chance of winning a world title as Charles Manson has of becoming pope. Get over it, your hero is finished, Williams simply stood up to him, and beat the shit out of him.

I seriously hope Mike doesn't get back in the ring, really, he's going to get mullered, mentally he just doesn't have it any more, and he will get slaughtered again by anyone decent who survives the first 3-4 rounds. Mike ain't gonna get down to below 230, he's an old man now, and he just hasn't got it.

I really hope Mike can find some happiness, he needs to get involved in boxing outside the ropes, perhaps he could work with kids training them, it seems to be something he enjoys, he should be encouraged to stay involved in the sport, but those closest to him should advise him to quit. He has little left, and won't mentally recover from this beating.

If his ligament is torn, they should have a cast on his leg, and why is he bandaged from the top of his thigh to his heel? That is a total fabrication, he wasn't even limping when he left the ring. Why else do you think Finkel made sure he wasn't interviewed. Time to get their stories straight, rather than Mike unravelling on camera and admitting that he is finished.

Williams looked like a perfect heavy that night. Good chin, heart, determination, hard combinations.

I heard someone say he looked like a young Riddick Bowe. I thin that is a good comparison.

But Danny's problem has always been his mind. We'll see if this is the turning point.

All credit to danny, what else could he do? He beat him in the impresivest way possible. Huge underdog, and took those shots from one of the worlds biggest hitters. Congrads Danny, you proved me wrong!

From boxingtalk.com:
He may not have received any options on former heavyweight champ "Iron" Mike Tyson, but Chris Webb's Straight Out Promotions does in fact, have three options on Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams, and will co-promote the Brit's next three fights along with allegedly's Sky Sports Network

Interesting. Chris Webb has been smart. It almost guarantees a Williams-Tyson rematch if Tyson wants it.

I have to admit by the time the fight came I'd completely written off Danny Williams. He'd just had too many chances.

But what a display. Talk about putting it all together. This wasn't a case of the usual Williams turning up and getting an unexpected easy time against a shot fighter.

Keep Danny fighting in the USA from now on if that's how he's going to perform. How many other 18st+ heavyweights out there have the fitness to throw that many bombs one after another in such a high pressure situation? I don't believe he'd beat Klitschko but I'd give him a chance against every other top name out there.

well I did say he had a chance but I never thought he would take it that early if at all, great performance by Danny, Ive always had a soft sport for him since the Potter fight. Enjoy the moment and I hope he takes great heart and encrouagement form this and gets his title at Brewster, Ruiz, or Byrd, but keep away from Vitali.

p.s. ooooh am I enjoying posting on the currrent scene at the minute...ohhh you betcha. :TU: :TU: :TU:

His conviction was questionable to say the least. If he was tried in England, he would have been found not guilty. But the good old US justice system is a joke.

I feel sorry for Tyson. I wont lie, I cried when Williams beat him.

Tyson has been used and abused, exploited and let down.

SHoudl never have been allowed in the ring again sorry. Can't feel for the bloke after that. One of the worst things Ive ever seen in a sporting arena.

I too feel a great sadness for Tyson, it was heartbreaking seeing him sat on the bottom strand staring into his own bleak future, his face said it all, he knows he's washed up and that his life if fucked.

He's been used and abused since day 1, even Cus and Jacobs used him for their own ends, though they at least treated him with respect. The vampires wont let Tyson retire until they've bled every last drop out of him, and I can well see him walking around on shaky legs slurring his words in two years time. Tyson is in danger of becoming a truly pathetic figure, and the sad thing is, he seems to have gotten his head together.

Someone needs to get him involved in the sport in a non-combatant capacity.

He might make a good coach.

I have to say that I also feel sorry for Tyson. He has nowhere to go and those people clamouring for a rematch or who offer up hopes that he will be a force in the game are the same type of ones who ( like me ) clamoured for Ali to get back into the ring " one more time" more for the chance for them to recapture wonderful past experiences than for any real chance the fighter had.

Tyson is not a good person. That goes without saying. The rape case ( although his crime here seems to be to many people that he did his time and came out an unpenetant proud black man declaring his innocence rather than a repentant Uncle Tom ) The ear biting, the brawls and the abuse and abusive language have all gone to create the demon who is so villified.

However, from a purely sporting point of view, Tyson saved boxing's ass. The big names in many divisions ( Hagler, Holmes etc ) were disappearing and money was being leeched out of the game to other sports. Suddenly young black kid with no respect for anyone except past fighters ( that alone made me have some affection for him ) came in a ripped through the division and made everyone's eyes turn into $$ signs.

The reasons Tyson is not a good person are many. Both through his own faults and those of others he has lost every good opportunity that came his way. But, like any human being, he deserves the chance to live his life with some dignity or at least to be allowed to make the attempt without having help boxing fans try and get a glimpse of their childhood hero as he gets beaten up again by increasingly untalented fighters who would not have been considered as sparring in years gone by

I hope he retires. I hope he does a deal with the taxman to take part of his salary. I hope his amazing passion for the fight game and his knowledge of fighters can be used by some network to add colour to a boxing scene that will be the poorer for his leaving.

I hope all of these things, but most of all I hope he does not end up in a wheelchair or a gutter. Not because it is a sad end for Mike Tyson, but because it is a sad end for any man

I hope his ex-wife fornicating leaves him alone. Christ, the poor guy's totalyl destitute, and she still wants her pound of flesh. I really think it stinks that women are so shameless about taking money from men as part of a divorce settlement. How often do you hear of a bloke asking for half his spouse's money, and more to the point, how often do they get anythign.

I hate all this bullshit about, "well i got accustomed to a certain lifestyle, and I helped him make that money."

"Yeah, well ain't life a bitch, and so are you toots. Get fornicating used to it, life sucks, just be grateful you got the breaks when you did and hooked up with a rich man to support your golddigging instincts. If you provided him with so much help, you should be able to make your own fortune, seeing as you were so instrumental in making his."

The culture of greed has gone too far. Now people even think they deserve to take people to the cleaners just because they can.

That's debatable.....

She obviously had a talent for spotting his potential to earn money. Why the fornicate is she entitled to a proportion

And don't anyone dare give me that cuntibollocks about how she needs the money to bring up the kid. My mum brought me up on her own salary without any help from my dad, we were pretty poor as a result, no hot water or bathroom for many years, but christ, you don't need half a million a year to bring a bloody kid up. It's like when David Becham tries to excuse his amazing ego and greed by saying 'I'm providing for my family.' Christ what are they doing, eating gold flakes for breakfast and wiping their areses on platinum gilded 50 pound notes. You are not providing for your family you perfumed fornicating ponce, you are a greedy little wanker who needs a slap. Providing for your family is feeding, clothing and putting a roof over their heads so they are well cared for.

What's the odds that Brooklyn and Romeo Beckham turn out to be the biggest wankers in the country?

Whoa! I think I need to breathe.
