The end was far from ideal, but Parker proved yet again he is a force to be reckoned with. Underrate him at your peril.

Dimitrenko is a typical product of German boxing promotions of the last 20 years.
He was one of the guys they tried to hype up as one of the next big things after the Klitschkos on German television. But then again, Universum Box Promotions tried that with every guy coming along that kept a clean record against tomato cans. Sauerland as well. With that came lucrative TV contracts, they put a lot of money into marketing, bought a shitload of judges and milked the market as long as they could. Now people got sick of seeing yet another Sven Ottke or Regina Halmich getting bogus decision wins, people like Klitschko were annihilating their opponents too easy for too long, the highest paying contracts with the ARD and ZDF stations have ended leading to people like Dimitrenko loosing their protection and promoters. Now they are the ones who have to come to other countries as journeymen for the up and coming fighters.
He was very young when he started his pro career, I mean he was what, 19 back then? He did have moments in his career, the KO wins against Krasnici and Sosnowski are really not that bad, but it was clear that he would never made it all the way to the top, his losses right after his better victories cemented that. I think he just never was dangerous enough and struggled with opponents that you thought he would put away easily but had to go the distance in the end.
He had his time, he was EBU champ and held some intercontinental titles, now after his hiatus which I think was due to Universum declaring bankruptcy he resumed his career against questionable opponents and is now halted again with this very devastating victory.
While not really that old for a heavyweight at 34, he has been a pro for 15 years and just got his ass handed by a 24 year old who started almost as young as him.
As someone who followed the Klitschkos and the "young batch" of heavyweights since the late 90s I have a bit of a tough time admitting that I aged with them and that there is a new generation of promising heavyweights that will mop the floor with the last generation any time.
Maybe it is wishful thinking, but I hope that Wilder, Parker and Joshua will eventually duke it out . Maybe that would bring some excitement for boxing back for me, now that the boxers I rooted for such a long time are on their way out and are not looking pretty.

Parker is lucky that he wasn't DQed straight away for that shot.
It doesn't matter... Dimitrenko was obviously faking it after getting hit with an illegal shot.. He looked like De La Hoya rolling around on the canvas.. Give me a break.. I would have counted him out too, because he wasn't hurt and he wasn't a good actor.. Plus the fight stunk out loud because it was obvious Dimitrenko had no intention or ability to put up a half decent fight.. He couldn't get a fight with Shannon Briggs after that ridiculous display.

The Takam-Parker fight was a very good Heavyweight fight.. That's how you match guys at this level.. You don't drag in people like Dimitrenko, who has refused all offers to fight anybody half decent since Pulev knocked him out almost 5 years ago.. Don't fight somebody who's been dragging his feet..

Now fight Antony Joshua.. No excuses because you're the number 1 contender.

I agree Parker was lucky he didn't get DQed, but on the other side, how sad would it have been if Dimitrenko would have received a titleshot this way? Another few AJ months wazted as well and name it.

Parker did some very good body work in that fight. I think that's his key to having any success against the big heavyweights. Forget about the head, fire combos to the body. I hope he becomes a body destroyer from now on. Mix up the HW division.

The punches to the ribs that Parker threw looked kind of dodgy to me. The first hook was thrown when he had his opponent in a head lock. This was followed up with a similar shot that clearly landed when Dimitrenko was technically on the floor.

The right man won, as this was a mismatch, but the New Zealander should consider himself very fortunate that he wasn't DQ'd.

I didn't learn very much about Parker from that fight, through no fault of his own, because Dimitrenko looked really really bad and had no ambition whatsoever.

Joshua is a level above Parker. He would defeat him, early and easily.
I'm always surprised when people say that.

AJ's best win is over Brezeale who arguably should have lost of Fred Kassi, one of Hughie Fury's sloppy seconds.

Parker's wins over Takam and Dimitrenko are far better than anyone on Joshua's resume. Brezeale who should have lost to Kassi, Martin who is the weakest ever world champ, Whyte who is British level best and that Scottish fella who isn't even area level.

OMG it's amazing !!!!!!!!!!! I thought the exact same thing
when Mike Tyson bit Holyfields ear and didn't get instantly DQ.

It took another bite for him to get DQ.

You sir are a genius!!!

I just watched it again. Parker wrestled him to the ground and then deliberately slugged him while he was down and didn't even act like it was a mistake. He immediately turned around and walked away as if he was satisfied with his handiwork. It was a blatant foul and he should have absolutely been DQ'd or at the very least points deducted and Dim. given time to recover. The so called referee first signals no knockdown, whatever the hell that's supposed to mean in a situation like that - and then after signalling no knockdown he counts him out! WTF? D's team should be strongly protesting this and not just to the local crooks.

Parker took really big unnecessary risk with that shot he took while Dimi was down. In a fight he was having no trouble to make it even worse. I am glad that right man won anyway.

I have to say that I was quite pleased to see the wrestling Parker did in that fight. Gives me hope that he could beat Wlad in the future if that fight ever happens :TU:

Who the hell are you to say that a man was acting and not really hurt? Are you a doctor that examined him? Russians need to stand up for their boxers and other athletes who are constantly getting screwed over in the west now and by the crooked western sports outfits, like this local thing in NZ that immediately and predictably ruled against Dimitrenko's protest. That fight should be declared a win for Dimitrenko or at least NC.

...it really depends on which side of the fence you are sitting: if I were his lawyer, I would recommend him to launch a complaint...if I were a film producer, I would say 'Welcome to Hollywood', as a boxing fan though I'm glad the referee stopped one-sided boxing match..

There have been plenty of one sided boxing matches where the winning fighter was disqualified for fouling. The two Golota-Bowe fights come to mind. Just because you're winning doesn't give you such license. And again who are you to insinuate again that Dimitrenko was faking it? That pathetic excuse for a referee should be banned too. His behavior alone is reason to scratch the win. He ruled no knockdown and then counted him out!

I can only go off the footage posted on this forum but Parker is lucky he didn't get dq. He needs to control that better. Dimentrenko was clearly on one knee when he got hit.

In Parkers defence he wasn't looking at Dimitrenko's knees, he was looking at his ribs trying to pick his next shot, there is no way he knew Dimitrenko had taken a knee.
It is up to the ref to stop the action, not the fighter.

I tend to agree - I don't think Parker should have been disqualifed, but he could have been. At least the ref should have given Parker a warning and given Dimitrenko as much time as he needed to recover. Quick question - had the ref ruled it as accidental, would it have been a NC or a DQ loss for Parker had Dimitrenko said he couldn't continue?

God only knows, most refs seem to make it up as they go along.
