I've followed Cox since he was an amateur, and a brilliant amateur he was.

He's such a good, aggressive boxer but his temper is still a big, big problem. He clearly wants to get on in the sport and is very ambitious, but at the same time that all goes out of the window when the red mist appears.

He tested the refs patience to the maximum and was so lucky not to have been thrown out. It seemed impossible that he would get through the ten rounds without being DQ'd and I was praying he'd put Rios away ASAP, but Rios toughed it out and the ref warned him god knows how many times.

Rios was a wind-up merchant and a cheat himself, but Jamie has to sort his temper out. He's an excellent fighter, no matter what people think of him or find him off putting. I even wonder if he could do middleweight and would probably be even more dangerous. I always think of him as a Welterweight of Light middle, but he does still look in good shape at SM and lasted the ten rounds no problem. Being from the West Country I always wanted Chris Sanigar to take him on and think they'd have a good career together.

He's the scummiest boxer in Britain.

Maybe if he wasn't surrounded by slimeballs he might sort himself out.

A good and fair post, totally agree.

If he is so ambitious then why is his record so bad?

He's been a pro for over 9 years now. Why hasn't he stepped up yet?

He doesn't seem like an excellent fighter at all.

He's shown very little to suggest that he can go far in this sport so far.

What if you do usually like him or just want to watch his fights but then may express an opinion on things that happen in his fights? Should you still not watch/buy tickets?

I've paid to attend shows you've promoted in the past, should I not bother again just in case I may wish to give an opinion on them that differs from yours?

I respect and kind of understand you backing your fighter but the 'fornicate the fans doesn't matter what they think' attitude isn't on.

I was surprised when Jamie Cox moved up to Super Middle and was sure it was a mistake, however it isn't really sensible to question that move now, he has established himself as a solid and very powerful 168lb boxer and his performances have been excellent.
Its been a loooooong time since he and I shared a gym and trainer but as has been well publicised he has struggled with temper outside the ring from back then to the present day. His performances inside the ring however have never really struggled with this kind of thing and hopefully it was just a one off. I don't know what happened between them before the contest, perhaps there was some animosity that got the better of them both on the night? Whilst this still doesn't make it right, it does explain things a little and both boxers were guilty of tactics that could and probably should have had them thrown out.
I don't agree with the posters saying that Cox would be a walk in the park for the top domestic SMs, so far we really don't know but he certainly hs skills, he certainly has power and I would give him at worst a 50-50 chance with most.

He's fought no one.

They all beat him and most of them would beat him easily.

Cox has done nothing to suggest that he can compete with Britain's best super middleweights.

Biting is no worse than headbutting.
its a lot worse, using your head, shoulder, elbow and forearm are pretty standard "professional fouls" that most pros accept when not overdone, obviously cox went over the top with the head and should of been slung out

Talkischeap, were the pre-fight tactics to be quite handy with the head ? For me this didn't work and actually contributed to Cox's anxiety once he knew he was on the edge of a DQ. It affected his work which became rushed. I don't recall Cox using these tactics before which makes it all the more surprising.

Yes but not cleanly - you'd probably get headbutted and low blowed into submission.

I've never understood that kind of argument where you can't criticise someone cos they're "hard", it doesn't make the facts any less valid. "You wouldn't say it to his face.. " surely that would only confirm they are twats then?

I wouldn't give Charles Bronson a hard time, that doesn't mean he's not a fornicating psychotic lunatic.

Other posters have made extremely valid points on the Frankie Gavin threads about discipline and mental attitude being just as critical to success as ability, and sadly I think Cox's career is a further proof point in that regard. Much like The Butch I'm a West Country lad who had high hopes for Cox, but his temperament seems so suspect and at 30 one can't help but think it's already dangerously close to 'could have been, should have been' territory.
No matter what happens from here, the fact is that he's stagnated over the majority of his career and the window of opportunity is narrowing by the day...

I wouldn't want to talk to them at all in real life, insults or not.

They don't seem like the type of people that I'd get on with or enjoy talking to.

Truly shocking lack of discipline on Cox's part that undoubtedly should have been dealt with but was sadly met with some very questionable home refereeing.
Another win but poor performance against a opponent who was dealt with twelve months ago in a rather more conventional and convincing way by Jimmy Kelly jnr two weights below.

Talkischeap wrote:Yes & since lost a very narrow decision to WBC no 1 Jorge Heliand & dropped Helland in the eighth round. Then went & won 3 on the bounce one guy with a 17 &1record & picked up WBC Latino belt. One judge had Helland winning 95-94 Jamie beat Rios 98-86.
We know all about Jamie's lack of discipline in the fight & the warnings Jamie received were justified but few mention the fact that Rios had 3 warnings which is an instant disqualification the referee in all the madness to be fair to him failed to execute that disqualification. Rios has also received an 18 month ban before for his behaviour. Jamie is aware that he needs to dress it down & will do.
Fair comments wish you'd have said that in the first place instead of basically telling everyone to do one just because a couple on here seem to want to have a pop at your fighter. There's a difference between those people and the others just expressing an opinion that Jamie's discipline wasn't great.
