Browne Briggs
Re: Browne Briggs
Who is the best fighter Briggs has stopped in the last decade? Some of his bum of the month stoppages looked quite shady to me as well.
He'll probably gas after a round or two and then get his ass kicked, and those who still haven't picked up on it will see why he's been chasing big fights with his mouth, rather than actually trying to earn decent wins.

Re: Browne Briggs
people are going on on here as if browne is a good boxer!!
he is mediocre at best with a poor defence but a decent dig.
I cant see him outboxing briggs but I can see him outslugging briggs if it goes past 6.
I expect the cannon to be stood over browne in about 3 rounds!

Re: Browne Briggs
Turn the clock back 7-8 years and it might well be Briggs ....just a bit too much more in the locker for Lucas.
But Shannon is now a 44 year old guy - who looks far older - and he's been largely been beating-up gimmes since taking a serious hiding from Vitali.
This ain't the miraculous, second coming of a modern Foreman-figure but rather a guy who was not exactly stellar or a genuine kingpin in the first place and who has skillfully been keeping himself relevant by being a superb marketing man.
Lucas is a hard, basic fighter - borderline cumbersome - but he's still got the tools to see off Shannon circa 2016
I am expecting a Browne wobble because Briggs (to his credit) is still capable of a lively round, but ultimately Lucas has the toughness and discipline to get the win.

This is a terrible, terrible fight.
Does the winner of this have to fight Fres Oquendo?

It is almost a given...Oquendo is surely the love-child of some WBA vice-president.
Whatever happens at WBA-ville, Oquendo is always there and someone is given a deadline to fight him.

Re: Browne Briggs
I don't see how Fres is in the title hunt for anything. He hasn't fought at all in over 2 years. He'd have to be considered not an active fighter as of this moment so he shouldn't even be ranked.Bodyshot3 wrote:Does the winner of this have to fight Fres Oquendo?

He's still sat there at No. 6 despite all of this.

I've seen the Instagram videos, Briggs is very open about all the juicing he does...boxingknockout wrote:Dixonian wrote:Fair point. Still, Briggs looks (and behaves) so juiced up it would have to be one hell of a masking agent!boxingknockout wrote:
Yes. In theory. Remember - for anti doping agencies to ban a substance, they need to 1) identify the product and realise it exists 2) prove it's performance enhancing 3) formulate a test that will detect it 4) go through all the red tape needed to officially ban the substance.
That's a long process.
And the dopers are way ahead of the game. Always ahead. Look at Lance Armstrong - in a sport that undergoes rigorous testing (unlike pro boxing) - didn't fail a test at the time (I believe only legacy urine samples that later failed).
Plus you can't do much about Mike Tyson's realistic fake penis with someone else's clean piss (not sure how he explained the fake penis if his luggage was searched at an airport)

I know, I genuinely fear for his sanity and physical and mental health. He seems to have totally lost his mechanism. I know he wants / needs the payday but what price health? Even his head has changed shape since he turned pro as he's been juicing so much

This is a 1 round fight. If Briggs doesn't get a 1st round stoppage he loses.

lefty wrote:I know this seems like a mad pick but I actually think Briggs has a good chance in this fight. Don't get me wrong he has to do it early but Browne is not exactly the hardest to hit and I don't think his chin is the most solid either. He was knocked down heavily by Chagaev who I don't believe is the biggest puncher exactly at heavyweight and he was buzzed by Long is memory serves me correct.
Briggs doesn't have a lot left but he can still punch if nothing else.
100% agree with this plus Brownes also been stopped a few times in MMA I think he's very basic but Briggs needs to do it within 4

I can only imagine his manager has been very active on his behalf, the guy seems to have been in the mix forever.Wales wrote:baffles me too. This fight might be off, if the alleged rumors are true that Browne failed another test?

Just read that. I will be royally pissed off if it's true - I gave Browne the benefit of the doubt for the first failed test.ScottDetonator wrote:This fight might be off, if the alleged rumors are true that Browne failed another test?

ESPN’s Dan Rafael said on Tuesday Browne has tested positive for a second time as part of the WBC’s Clean Boxing Program, which the boxer voluntarily enrolled in. “We have been notified by VADA about Browne’s adverse finding as he was tested under the CBP,” WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told ESPN. “He has been notified and the process is being attended as per the protocol.” Browne is yet to comment on the information.

Isn't this the drug that has only recently been banned, but can linger in the system?
Povetkin & Bute also failed it I believe - and it was said it was down to protein recovery drinks.

Re: Browne Briggs
You're thinking of Melodonium. Lucian Bute failed a test for the same substance in April. But it has been on the banned list at least since 2013. Think there's been a few cyclists caught taking it back in 2013.G0mez wrote:Isn't this the drug that has only recently been banned, but can linger in the system?

Re: Browne Briggs
FFS! What a mess the heavyweight division is.
It seems that the more rigorous testing going on in boxing, is causing absolutely mayhem at the moment, fighters just aren't clued up enough, some are failing things which probably don't even benefit them, because their regimen is being closely monitored closely enough, whilst others are failing for more serious offences, they would have gotten away with a year or two ago.

Bute failed for Ostarine otherwise known as Enobosarm which is found in supplements and is a SARM I believe. It's also used in the treatment of muscle wastage and Osteoporosis.Rob3_142 wrote:You're thinking of Melodonium. Lucian Bute failed a test for the same substance in April.
