He says he doesn't know if the pressure got to Luis Ortiz, the attention, he's headlining on HBO... but the Cuban needed to do better.
And Ortiz is out of Dec 17 event (AJ-Molina undercard)

Never got the hype around Ortiz. Glad this stinker opened some eyes so I don't have to read anymore on how he's the best heavy on the planet.

I think this fight did multiple favors for Ortiz. 1) It might possibly help him secure better opponents in the future, now that people may be a little less afraid of him. 2) It gave Ortiz an opportunity to reevaluate what his flaws are against opponents fighting on the back foot. Wilder and Haye would use the same tactics, and Ortiz would have potentially just lost to either of them if he hadn't been awakened to his flaws. If Ortiz is lucky enough to make necessary improvements, then he might be able to convert a potential loss into a potential win.

I highly doubt any top fighters, or even top-ish fighters were ever afraid of Ortiz for anything he actually brings in the ring; they were afraid of him for what he doesn't bring which are things like viewers, ticket sales, and money. Ortiz is not appealing. He didn't get fights because he didn't deserve them from a business perspective.

That's another thing in this sport that has to go. Guys not getting their shot because they're not the biggest draw. If you're a top rated contender you should get your shot damn it. Most guys need a big eye catching win to ever become a star. How are they gonna become a star if they don't get their chance?

He won't need to drive cab... He's going to make 40 or 50 million before he threw... IF logical opponents fight him... NOBODY wants to get knocked cold... Your life could end when you get put out... That's why anytime you create mismatches you create very stinky fights.. They're either very short KO's where the opponent dives for the canvas for the payday---and escapes with his life and a check... or he runs like a thief and doesn't throw punches.. You have to get Alexander Povetkin, Deontay Wilder, or David Haye for Oritiz ... if you want to see a great fight...

If you want to see another lousy fight get Miller, Charr, Solis, Helenius, Price, or any other 2nd rate Heavyweight... Fans get sick of it... Off the top, because he's undefeated, some promoter might think Miller would make a great opponent for Ortiz.. On paper Scott was a good opponent.. In reality Miller would stink it up just as bad because he doesn't have very good skills at this point.. If these top opponents won't fight Ortiz, give them more money.. Promoters are too damned tight these days.. Good fights are harder to make than ever---because all the promoters are so damned chintzy.

Tex Rickard did extremely well because he paid boxers unprecedented amounts of money for what he knew where great fights.. Then he did a great job of promoting his fights.. Rival promoters said he was nuts and some boxers didn't think he was serious with some of his offers -- but he knew what he was doing..

I wasn't impressed with Ortiz, and although Scott ran, I thought he out-boxed him in a couple rounds in the second half of the fight. I think Ortiz needs to bomb out a Hammer/Duhaupas level guy to get people believing again

It's called a mismatch. It happens constantly. If you can get Ortiz in there with a Parker or Povetkin - go for it.

I tell you what, Parker v Ortiz would be very interesting. Although I would worry about Parker's defence...

It's fairly amusing that I was aggressively derided for claiming that whilst Luis Ortiz was a decent heavyweight, the talent he has displayed and the quality of opposition he has faced didn't warrant the extreme hype and lavish praise he'd received.

I also detailed his stylistic and athletic fighting flaws, which people aggressively challenged me on. Even though the very same issues were blatantly apparent when Ortiz fought Scott.

Now that Ortiz delivered a less-than-impressive performance against Malik Scott, it seems that many people are quickly disembarking the 'King Kong' hype train, but nobody has bothered to retract their criticism of my posts.

It seems that in life, if people feel you're "wrong" about something, you face criticism, but even if you are ultimately proven to be "correct", you'll still be criticised.

I would've strongly preferred him to fight in more entertaining manner, but I think he did what was best for him. Maybe Ortiz could've helped put an end to the bore-fest if he let his hands go more, cut off the ring better, and stopped loading up so much.
