The reason Michael Schumaker is hated, is the same reason that a lot of people hated Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, Pete Sampras, Manchester United. Consistent success is boring, people like to see change in sport, and if the same guy or team is at the top for ages it is boring.Matchfixer wrote:Ottke is hated because he has been given verdicts which he shouldn't have been given.BubiScholz wrote:i didn´t offfend anybody personally. that´s the difference. and i can´t hear this ottke-shit anymore. the hole world hates him. only 10 millions or more germans don´t. but i tell you another thing i told you months ago. the main reaso ottke is hated is because germans are hated. and so here they hate Beyer, Michalczewski, Ulrich and the Klitschkos and whoever boxes in germany.
and i give you one reason for it: jealousy. it´s the same because the world hates M.Schumacher. he is the best and is german, he must be hated.
Not really too fussed about Bayer, M'ski, Ulrich or the Klitschkos or M Schumacher. In fact, it's good to see the most talented driver winning as it is not always the most talented who are the most succesful - Sven Ottke being an excellent example of this.
i agree with you regarding his boxing style. most fights were boring. but i think he was never knocked down. i only can remember 2 good fights, vs. Krajnc and Mitchell.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes I saw the fight with Larsen, that was another dreadful fight, and an example of how tedious Ottke's style was.
Ottke boxes like an amateur, all jab and little else, so bloody boring, and every time an opponent lands a shot, he spends the next 20 seconds backpedalling around the ring.
I honestly think that with an impartial referee who didn't constantly break the action to issue warnings for non-existent infractions, Reid would knocked Ottke out. Ottke had virtually nothing to offer, his reflexes were gone by that point, and he had no firepower to keep Reid off. Reid would have pummelled him shitless.

I think that you lot are being a bit hard on Ottke at least he fought the best in his division and controversial or not he still won. The same can't be said for Calzaghe or Hatton who are made out to be champions and neither has had a legit belt or beaten a good fighter in his prime.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes I saw the fight with Larsen, that was another dreadful fight, and an example of how tedious Ottke's style was.

If you got to the german speaking forum you will see that they are just as critical of their own fighters as you brits are of your own.jamesmcdonnell wrote:It seems he was so popular in Germany, maybe because they just liked success, because there is nothing really to admire about him except his level of success.
I find it bizzarre that nobody in Germany I've spoken to, seems willing accept the fact that Ottke was gifted several decisions, anyone who watched some of the controversial fights, would have to admit that at least one of them was dodgy.
No doubt about that and its quite impressive that he has become a champ so late in his career when you also think of that he got a sick son that he know is going to die within a few years. This is also the reason why Bredahl hasnt boxed in Japan in his last couple of defenses eventhough TEIKEN promotions had options for his first 3 defenses. Mr Hnda, chief on TEIKEN understand that Bredahl cant travel of a long time because of the son and he has therefore waived his rights for the options.Kilburn wrote:I've always liked to watch Johnny Bredahl.
