Have the board made a comment ? - I bet not.

They usually justify not doing anything by saying there needs to be a written complaint before they can act - so they are probably waiting for somebody to fill out a form in triplicate before they even think about (not) doing anything.

What kind of dick would agree to spar him?

Glad to be wrong on this one, I look forward to reading the findings of the investigation.

This shows really poor judgement from Blackwell, particularly from someone who had just got their trainers licence.

That was my thought. Surely no one would actually do a full contact spar with him.
My thoughts has well . He had a bleed he did'nt lose his skills , a novice being tought would'nt be throwing the bombs and if he did probably would'nt land enough that he (Blackwell ) would think they would do damage .. And a guy with skills , enough to catch him surely would'nt load up especielly in a gym where there all mates ,,, I think it sounds like a light spar , which no one thought would harm .. ,, suppose it will come out ,, Only thing from this is Nick has to say NO to head piunches FOREVER .

Yeah, maybe just stick to the pads.

I can easily imagine how 3 or 4 rounds of not too heavy sparring with 14 or 16oz gloves and headgear wouldn't seem like a big deal after all these months. If this is what actually happened I think the criticism should be measured. It was foolish but surely no-one could have predicted this happening despite the history.

I hope he makes a full recovery and this scare means he is never tempted to dabble like this ever again.

Of course it could be predicted and if those involved couldn't see that then they need to hang up their badges!

One of the primary roles of the coach is to protect his boxer. If this was a managed spar rather than a training incident then heads should be hung in shame and responsibilities shared with Nick himself.

Get well soon Nick.....

This report is pretty clear that Gary Lockett and Robert Smith quoted as saying he was sparring not working as a trainer when it happened. Have to agree that if this is the case the guys involved with him need to be sanctioned.

Your medical knowledge is way beyond mine. Can you explain the current nature of his injury and how you would have forseen this? Shouldn't he constantly be walking around in a crash helmet if this is the predictable result of a knock to the head. Should he even be allowed to train and take fighters on the pads for the same reason?

I don't think you need to be a medical professional to figure out that a man who's been in a coma for a fortnight with a very serious head injury, much less than a year ago, shouldn't be trading punches with active professional fighters.

I blame Blackwell for being foolish, but I give him some mileage because of what he's been through, but FFS! What sort of moron would spar a man who had a life threatening bleed on the brain!?

I'd have thought it would be clear that punching someone in the head forcefully and repeatedly would obviously be bad for someone recovering from blood vessel and tissue damage to the brain!

The person that hit him might not have been at the consultant’s with him. No doubt Blackwell played it down and said I’m fine! Probably looked as fit as a butcher’s dog too! He probably in the back of his mind knew it was dangerous and hoped he would get away with one.
It basically goes to show where he gets his kicks from in life....I’m sure he could do many jobs - and no doubt acquire some useful, new skills as well. He needs to expand his ideas really.

You'd have to have been living under a rock to be involved in boxing in any capacity and not be aware he'd been in a coma for a lengthy time tho.

I remember it being on tele, national story-line, and morning tv appearances (Lorraine Kelley type stuff and people that put the news on before 8am)....but honestly speaking I don’t remember if it was 3 days or 10, but I’m glad he made it. He needs to appreciate he’s been lucky as it is.
I agree, the other person shouldn’t have sparred him, but if they both were keen to spar, none is at any more fault than the other.

I haven't tried to research it but I didn't know these were forceful blows. I thought it was more likely to be a 'move around' than a gym war. Is there simply no recovery from a brain bleed and does he remain as vulnerable now as he was 9 months ago despite (i assume) much bigger gloves, headguard, no dehydration or exhaustion or 10 gruelling rounds of a powerful more skilled boxer punching him in the head?
Maybe so, i don't know.
It was obviously a very stupid thing to do but I wouldn't have seen being rushed to hospital a nailed on certainty of sparring. I'm more shocked at the result of the sparring than the fact he sparred.

Slightly off topic but I saw a translated article that said Gutneckht is still in a medically induced coma. That's over a week now which isn't great news.

although being slightly positive medically induced coma can be a positive, if they're keeping him in that state it suggests that he can heal and if they didn't he would be conscious.

Yeah but they normally like to bring a person out of a medically induced coma within a week or so as it's not good to be in that state for a prolonged period of time. Also they don't only put a person in a medically induced coma because they think they can heal- it's also done to stop the person being distressed.

His last twitter post doesn't look great.

Having a discussion on there about trying out new gloves so lots of people seemed aware he was going to start sparring again, nobody spoke out against it.

Most of the folk on here try to predict the outcome of fights based on all levels of knowledge, a whisper or a gut feeling. If David Haye is matched against Kell Brook you'd not require any expertise to predict the likely outcome. If a man who's spent 2 weeks in a coma gets hit in the head, the same.

The last bit is what I was thinking of, keeping them controlled because they need to be able to heal without the distress. I knew someone who had an aneurism and all he remembers of the experience is coming round trying to rip leads out of himself and having to be sedated, then repeat again at some time later. Fingers crossed for the guy, as you say a week is a long time to be held in a coma.

I was in one for 12 days ,, after that they said , they would have to do something else , because i was apparantly at the limit of having the tube down the throat they said any longer and you get growth around it ,, So they were gonna pull it out, try bring me around but ready to do a travescopy, or whatever they call it , (hole and tube in the neck ).. Apparantly they done what they done , and i had trouble coming round , and all of a sudden i was told ,i took one mighty breath and bingo started to come out .

Tell you something else , your dreaming a lot , I woke up and thought i'd been at a party for days , also told one of the doctors i could hear her , saying i was;nt going to make it ,, she said actually i knew you would , but her collegue was'nt so sure ,, she said Note to oneself , stop forgeting that some can hear and understand . .The party thing she actually said what that was , is the unit i was on ICU or something was very noisy , so obviuosly in my mind i associated noise with parties and disco's ,, and fornicate did'nt i look good on that floor doing my disco dancing,
