I don't think there is a Frampton snub, its simply that most people haven't got a clue who he is. Not a single one of my mates, outside of those who follow boxing, has heard of Carl Frampton.

Whereas every housewife and old dear has heard of Andy Murray haven't they.

Likewise all the football-following peasantry will demand Jaime Vardy is on the list because, well, its football...

We have all kinds of world champions in minority sports that you probably haven't heard of and sure as sh1t won't be on the list either. Best to chill out and ignore SPOTY altogether.

It's a very random award to be fair but you always know during an Olympic year the list is going to be skewed towards members of the Olympic team, Damon Hill was the last non-olympian to win this award during an Olympic year 20 years ago.

Some years are odd though such as 2009 with Giggs winning it despite several other nominees being stronger shouts for it, 1999 looked a dead cert for a United player to win it following the treble, it went to Lennox Lewis, 1995 you had Jonathan Edwards beating Bruno to it ffs, probably one of the most recognisable sportsmen in the country - I remember reading Carl Fogarty's book and he attended those awards and was sat next to Colin McRae both expecting Bruno to win it and when it was announced as Edwards they both looked at each other and just went "who?" - Zara Phillips winning it in 2006, Calzaghe didn't even make the final 3 although he won it the following year with Hatton in 3rd and to top it all off 1997 must have been a shite year for British sport as the winner and runner-up were Rusedski and Henman.

I'd love to meet the "experts" who come up with these shortlists and get them to explain some of their choices because no serious sports expert can pick Equestrianists(or whatever the shite they call them) over the likes of Carl Frampton, Chris Froome or Johnny Rea.

I think Carl Frampton has a point & certainly deserves to be included in the list for what he has done, but its the same old story, perhaps his face doesen't fit

I don't disagree but surely it's a shock that he beat Bruno to the award? Frank was one of the most recognisable faces in the UK not just sportswise either and the win over McCall was still fresh in the memory.

Yeah probably was. I was only about 13 back then but I remember Edwards being a huge deal at school. Bruno was a much bigger deal a few years before

No, can't stand Lineker, Barker or Balding. The last one I watched was when Calzaghe won in 2007 and I remember Lineker interviewing some sportsman up for one of the lesser awards and just spent the entire interview just patronising him. I hate the chumminess and backslapping, I hate sports awards in general since it seems to be made out that it's a big deal, some people I know where disappointed the Rory McIlroy missed out on it in 2014 but I told them to look on the bright side he won a trophy which predates the BBC's little trinket by almost 100 years. That's what competing is about, winning something so historic in your profession just once is worth a dozen accolades from the TV companies and sports writers.
