Not a big Witter fan myself. I do like his style, but I think he gets far to easy ride from the majority of the internet anorak's :)
He hasn't really fought anyone of any note and won, and until he does fight a decent name, and win. I am not going to do what the majority do who post on message boards about Witter i.e salivate on my keyboard.
He may hold the European belt, but he's no better of now, than when he was with SN, and time isn't on his side.

Witter certainly is. His power lately is different class. Not that you should look for horse racing style form lines but Urkal squeaked home against Battaglia and Witter crushed him.
Harris can punch like fornicate. He has a dynamite right hand and dropped Urkal with it. He almost always knocks his opponents down in his fights as well.

Some may say regarding Witter, he ain't fought no one , But he is willing at least, he did fight Zab , ok he ran but he still fought him , he did and has far has i know still does want to fight, Mr protected Hatton.
So all in all i think Witter ios the one the public should get behind cos if he had the drawing power i think he would make the fights happen , more than can be said for the protected one down the road.

I first noticed Witter when in only his 10th fight he decisioned Jan Piet Bergman. Bergman was 35-1 going in and had only lost to Tszyu in a title fight. Jan had been on a good run since, including a win over Tito Mendoza and after losing to Witter went on to lose to Judah for the Vacant IBF Light Welterweight Title knocking him down in the process. So one cannot use the excuse that Bergman was on the slide at that time.
Witter then went on to decision Mark Winters in his next fight taking 8 of 10 rds.
Now a good manager would have parlayed two consecutive wins into moving up the rankings picking higher ranked opponents which fit his style. But instead he was fed 3rd & 4th level opponents and then shoved in as a last minuet replacement against Judah in only his 18th fight.
Considering the circumstances and lack of preparation I don’t think his performance was as bad as the slaggers claim. IMO, both Judah and Bergman are of higher caliber than Phillips or Tackie who were on the slide and erroneously touted as contenders.
Ricky Hatton who has fought 38 fights has yet to face a top level fighter.
Now that Witter has broken away and added the European Title to his Commonwealth & British Titles he has to be considered Brittan’s # 1 Light welterweight. 
A title defense with Urkal & then the winner of M’Baye-Kotelnick will confirm him as Europe’s best and a strong contender for any World Championship title challenge.
BTW, I never bought into the bravado of Hatton getting a clause on his contract renewal for a proposed fight with Witter because there was conveniently never one on Witter’s contract.

Junior phoned me to do an interview a few weeks back, he's a nice guy, comes across as being a bit shy if anything, but he knows what he wants and didn't come across as brash or arrogant to me at all!

Junior Witter vowed to be more aggressive should another 'world' title opportunity arise after he was convincingly outpointed by Zab Judah for the IBF light-welterweight title in 2000.
"I've got a lot to prove to people who say I was negative and I ran that night," said Witter in the build-up to his fight with Kelson Pinto in December for the WBO interim light-welterweight title. "I saw where I was going wrong and I took the chance to get out of all my bad habits."
In truth, he had nothing to be ashamed of. As Ian Darke put it: "He went in there at short notice, ill-prepared and undertrained with the supposed next big thing to come out of America, and he completely confused the champion for 12 rounds. What else could he have reasonably been expected to have done?"
Witter himself said: "I went in there knowing I wasn't prepared and that I'd never even gone past eight round before, much less done 12 in a 'world' title fight. That was in my head the whole time."
He had taken the fight at just nine days' notice.
He moved on to the pending Pinto showdown in Manchester. "He's a very live opponent. He's probably the best light-welterweight to have come to the UK in ages.
"But I know I can beat him otherwise I wouldn't be getting in the ring."
He then labelled domestic rival Ricky Hatton a "coward" and a "joke", angering promoter allegedly, who had been accused by many of failing to bring the two fighters together.
"The simple fact is that for this fight to go ahead it needs the backing of American TV network Showtime," explained Warren. "And, at the moment, they just don't want to know Junior.
"Unfortunately, Junior has only appeared twice on Showtime before tonight (the Judah and Jurgen Haeck showings) and both times they have not been impressed by him. So he has to convince them he is a credible opponent.
"Kelson Pinto has done well on Showtime, so this is Junior's chance to push himself forward and if he wins in good style it will be very hard for Showtime to stand in his way."
The fight, on the same bill as Hatton's big test against Ben "Wonder" Tackie, was the perfect chance for Witter to showcase his talents and secure the much anticipated Battle of Britain with Hatton.
What happened? A week before the fight Witter pulled out claiming a tendon injury to his right hand. Two days before the fight, he was wandering around a Hennessy promotion at York Hall with no sign of a hand injury.
He subsequently fought on several Hennessy shows.
And people still believe Witter when he calls out Ricky Hatton!

Hmmm... SO Witter has the balls to fight Super Judah in Manchester at 9 days notice, who was the supposed mega puncher and likened to Pernell Whitaker, on a Hatton undercard. Yet he has no balls to fight Pinto, a man whose only claim to fame is beating Cotto under amature rules. Well, I find that hard to believe. Although he had an interview on the beep a few days after he pulled out and he showed his hand to the camera.
Havn't you seen Witter calling Hatton out on Sky for the past 4 years? Hatton is the coward.
I didn't see Hatton fighting Judah when Judah called his ass out???? He clucked like a chicken, if I recall correctly.

ottke was a good fighter untill his last fights. not bad when i saw his pro debut on eurosport and holdsworth said well he may get a title shot one day

Does anyone remember an 80's fighter from Liverpool called Tony Willis? He won Olympic bronze in 1980 and went on to win the British lightweight title as a pro.
He's the absolute spitting image of Ottke.
