Maybe this could be done on a thread that isn't discussing a boxer's serious brain injury? Just throwing it out there

He did it to himself.

He doesn't deserve to be treated with a great deal of respect right now.

Agreed but Donkey and mimmy took it off topic if you read the thread. I would prefer neither got involved in my threads to be honest but I doubt they will listen.

Blackwell is primarily to blame. Blackwell is a pillock.
As much as this post strikes me as one of your purposely inflammatory remarks, I completely agree.

Blackwell was beyond stupid to attempt any form of sparing after what happened.

He had massive amounts of sympathy from the boxing world when he suffered the initial injury, but none for being so stupid as to go back in any ring.

The sparring partner should know better and was in the wrong but this was Blackwells doing I'm afraid.
I agree Blackwell has to take the bulk of the blame.

It is easy to point the finger at the sparring partner and the trainer, but without any facts as to how that sparring session came about, i'll reserve judgement. I hear the trainer was only 21 and had just gotten his trainers licence, the sparring partner an imigrant. It could be they never knew who Blackwell was, or, perhpas the extent of his injuries. Hiw was the sparring set up, spur of the moment maybe? With no facts available i'm not going to label blame, other than at Nick himself.

Any fighter with any sort of brain should've refused Blackwell a spar.

That being said, it is primarily Blackwell's fault for sheer stupidity & taking chances with his health.
Further evidence of that is an IFL video that he did, where he said;

"I probably could fight again you know. The advice was only precautionary".

Clearly Blackwell still hasn't grasped the reality of his situation.

Denial is a powerful feeling. I can kind of understand it, he has had his career ripped away from him, and doesn't want to admit it's over.

I know it is foolish, but I can understand why it would happen.

On the other hand, I disagree entirely. It is the height of stupidly to be pulling a stunt like this.

What happened to Blackwell was terrible. When the news revealed that he was put in to a medically induced coma, some of us feared the worst...

After he went in to the hospital, legions of boxing fans wrote on here & wished him well, people donated money & even later - David Haye handed him £100,000 to ease his transition in to retirement.

If anything, Nick should be counting his blessings that he didn't end up permanently blind (Gerald McClellan) or severely disabled (Michael Watson) - those of us who can remember those travesties realise exactly how lucky Blackwell has been...

I'm not saying it isn't foolish, I'm saying I can understand how someone would convince themselves they were ok to fight.

Agreed.

Very stupid move by Blackwell & an unforgivable move by his sparring partner & the trainer, but I can understand why Blackwell did it.

He's a young fit guy who was working his way up, then suddenly, out of the blue, he's told he can't do the thing he loves.

Fook me - for some reason (maybe because he seemed to recover quickly the last time) I didn't realise it was that bad.
