Ive always liked Stiverne,I know most people think he's sh!te but lets see how he performs in the Povetkin fight.He might not win but he could change a lot of peoples opinions in this,depending how he performs.Boxrec dont seem to have Stiverne ranked?

Stivernes ben out of the ring over a year, so boxrec doesn't rank him
Pulev goes in at 5. I think hes on equal footing with Ortiz, Wilder and Joshua opposition-win wise and he gives all 3 a tough fight. It could be debated he goes above all 3 depending on what style you favour...

Based on activity AJ but I think the true number one is Fury lad better make a late 17' comeback

Cannot see how Boxrec rates Ortiz as no 1 and was surprised they had Chisora no 8 before the Whyte fight

Well Ortiz went from 175 -> 522 with the trio of wins against Jennings, Thompson and Scott. Although it's arguable that the three American's are not exactly pulling up trees, they are potentially better wins than the likes of Joshua, Wilder and Pulev have had recently. Who's had a better resume than Ortiz over the last 12 months?

Chisora on the other hand actually gained ground in the rankings with his split decision defeat to Pulev, and has just been hovering around in the top 15 for some time. Barring the two defeats to Fury, this was the first time that he's lost to someone lower ranked than him, and to someone as low as Whyte period. He's been very consistent in his performances.

Well, it's based on an algorithm which is very difficult to apply to boxing.

I think Joshua has to be number 1 at mo, bearing in mind Fury's inactivity and personal issues and Wlad's last fight being a comprehensive loss to Tyson.

I'd say AJ. Even before the Fury Klitschko fight.

Fury should be the man but he's walked away for now and I think there are fights out there that he loses
Wlad was the man, if he is still anywhere close to his best he's a risk for any of them (he's probably not though)
Joshua and Wilder can make their claim and have their obvious strengths and weaknesses. Need to step up
Ortiz and Haye might be fading or they might potentially have the tools to stop some of those names above
Parker for me is probably not going to be in that mix but a solid fighter none the less

And there are far too many unanswered questions, between older fighter and what they still have left and younger fighters and whether they are more hype than substance, how will they look when they step up

Spot on. Reality is, since Fury went into hibernation, there hasn't been a definitive number 1.

Only way to find out if for them to all fight each other. Klitschko-Joshua a great start. Hopefully Povetkin-Wilder can get done by next summer (if they keep winning). If the winners of those two fought you'd probably have the next man and the lineage could be continued.....
