Incidentally, I read a new article the other day about Prichard Colon, who suffered a similar injury in late 2015.

He had just turned 23 and was 16-0 entering his last bout. I remember watching him coming up and thought he looked pretty good, but then just a short while later he was a vegetable.

There has been a crowdfunding for Gutknecht, and while its great that the money came together, its slightly underwhelming.

Just 4620 out of a goal of 5000 pounds have been donated.

What a sad story, my heart goes out to him and his family.

It`s not Groves who should feel he has to donate his purse (although I reckon he has given generously) it`s the goons in his corner that should have pulled him out.

We could all see that he was taking far too much, but he kept fighting on. His team should have pulled him out.

Just watched this, tragic, but also shows how dangerous blows to the back of the head are, especially when the referee is a fu*kin goon who's doing nothing about it. Ref should be absolutely ashamed of himself.

Difficult read that. Almost wish it was publicised more to bring more awareness about of what can happen. Tbf its easy to blame others in hindsight. But it should be something for every corner team and referee to think about before every bout. If guys are taking punishment round after round without reply...its time to step in and stop it. You dont need to be visibly hurt and all over the place before stopping a fight.

For some reason I never understood, it's always the real warrior fighters who don't complain to the ref when fouled. Could never really get to grips with the mentality behind that. I've seen many fights where a fighter is rabbit punched, butted or hit low and they don't complain to the ref.

Spot on mate, I wouldn't of dreamt of complaining to the ref when fouled when I was boxing, I felt it made a bigger statement to ignore it and push on, maybe that's the wrong way, I'm not as sure anymore

It's right that you don't or life's a misery if your knocking your pan in having fights but getting called a pansy or whatever. I've not had many bouts in comparison to most so I've no injuries bar breathing difficulties. My mates boxed at a high level and some were warriors and they are suffering effects from that and I'm glad it wasn't me. Since I've been on here I've seen that soon as your down your out in most 'boxing fans' minds.

I mean, how can Hopkins, a convict and ATG world champion, be a pussy?(I thought this about him during Calzaghe fight) Just because he wants to be able to speak properly in his later years. He's that well preserved because he cares about himself and doesn't care about fans who want him hit in the back of head and balls.

After Dawson vs Pascal 1, Dawson was complaining in the post fight interview about Pascal continually fouling him and he kept saying "but I didn't complain to the referee, not one time!!". I was kind of baffled and thinking "why not complain about it?" but it makes sense what Tomasino is saying.

I have levelled the same criticism at kell brook in the past, maybe that was unfair of me but these things can become engrained in you over time, might be time to stop having unrealistic expectations of the fighters we watch

I don't mind a fighter complaining if he got fouled. If he actually got fouled. If he didn't get fouled and he's complaining and trying to milk it then it becomes annoying. Ottke was a notorious whinger to the referee.
