The first fight against a Pac who was seemingly at his ummm supplemental zenith, is as good an argument for Morales's chin as any.

It's one of my favourite fights. Morales schooled him

And to think how much better Morales took pacs shots compared to say Cotto, who would have outweighed him by about 20lbs (when pacs in ring weight would not have changed by more than 4-6lbs between those fights, he was 145 vs jmm second fight and I think 148-9 against Cotto), Morales really was titanium

Otherwise, McCall was an anvil with facial features.

It's a classic boxing question of course, but I've always thought it needs to be bi-furcated:

1. Who can take a punch, get a shellacking whilst covering up, but ultimately not offer much back offensively: McCall, McColloch, late Ali etc.

2. Who takes a punch on their way to doing their work and shrugs it off: the best of all time at that, Marvin and GGG is the best I've ever seen.

Marvin Hagler takes a lot of beating in the chin department.

Ray Leonard had a very solid chin too.

As did Eubank Sr, McCall, Tua, Mercer, Holmes, McCullogh, McCallum, Toney, Holyfield, Vitali, Froch

I wouldn't have said Brook, not shown enough imo for a few rounds vs GGG... but i wouldn't discount a fighter from this equation simply for being down either, the 2 best chins in recent time imo were Froch & Marquez. Both have been down on a few occasions - infact, the reason i credit them for having such phenominal chins is that when Katsidis put Marquez down, and when Groves put Froch down, I could swear both guys had their lights out on the way down yet showed super-human powers of recovery not only make the count but to just shake off shots and regain their stability within seconds when most fighters would have been down for the count of 20.

What about guys who dont even get hurt or go down in the first place though? Wach took flush shots all night from Wlad and drugged up, KTFO machine Pov, yet never had the slightest stagger. McCall was never down or majorly hurt either, and Hagler was pulled down in his one suffered 'knockdown'.

I'd say that if a fighter can take a shot so well that they dont need to show major recuperative powers, theyre at another level of durability. And speaking of powers of recovery, Id put N'dam at the top of the list, or at least near it, for active fighters; dude has been down loads of times but never stopped, and can go from seemingly out of it one minute to boxing as if nothing happened the next.

Well that's a fair point. Wach is a huge unit though so irs rare he's going to get hit hard by guys the same size as him. He took bug shots vs Wlad but Povetkin is a much smaller man (who couldn't even hurt Huck).

Depends on the shot & your balance too, your centre of gravity can help keep you on your feet if you eat a straight but a big hook could actually hurt you less but topple you over.

At heavy, Wach is a good shout. Wlad, an absolutely murderous puncher by all accounts, was teeing off on him in the seventh round with power shots and could not even wobble him.

I think Morales needed a break and a move up in weight.

I think his schedule and his habit of being in wars up to the second Pac fight caught up with him.

Four years or whatever later and he was catching bombs from Maidana at 140lbs.

By the way I don't think saying Morales schooled Pac first time round tells the whole story. The four or five rounds pac won, he was landing huge and often, and I will maintain till the day I die that I saw Morales age visibly in the last round of the first fight.

It was a tough fight and close, but I felt Morales skill level was much higher, he made PAC look clueless at points. I've not watched it for some years will look it out again soon

I agree that tactically Morales owned Pac. But pacs huge physicality was almost overwhelming at points, only a select few, an arguello or Sanchez, Morales, only a select few, fighters with almost unique combinations of talent and skill and toughness, could live with the pure physicality of Pac on that form.

Vitali, McCall, Toney, Eubank Jr, Calzaghe, Hagler.

And for a lesser level fighters. Christopher Rebrasse has a solid chin.
