However, where does Price go after he wins this? I just cannot see how they are going to step him up and avoid history repeating itself there are some fundamental weaknesses there. Best they match him very carefully and position him for one big cash out fight against a belt holder...
It's a good fight though. It would be Price's best win and they've obviously realised they have to actually beat at least one top 20 type guy to get a shot at some kind of world title. Loose and its over but this and another similar win and he'll probably get a shot and a decent pay day
Hammer not a top 20 guy though.
After the Teper win, he is ranked #10 by BoxRec, and has been entered at number 14 by forum votes.
I think this is a great fight. Price should have been in the ring long before now, and it looked like his career was stalling, but this is a great fight. Hammer gives away a lot of ranking points, and has a poor KO ratio. If Price knocks him out, he becomes relevant in the big picture again, and he can start targeting some of the bigger boys like AJ and such.
Is this not for the WBO European title?
Also, has this PPV become a little more attractive with this fight? Anyone now interested in buying?

A bit harsh to execute him for losing.

It's good match making for Price. Winnable and a win would lead to a big rankings jump. Give his defence, chin and heavy back hand I cannae see any Price fight from now on going past four rounds, no matter the opponent or the result!
It now looks a decent card but I wouldn't pay over £3 for it. The fact it is £13 rather than £20 and that the undercard is reasonable is a move in the right direction, just not enough of one!

If there was two more competitive fights added to the bill, I'd be interested. But the Mirror have reported that the main event might not happen now...

Could be make or break for Price. There would have been no point of throwing Price straight in with a Joshua or Ortiz and at the same time there's no point in him knocking over journeymen. We need to see if he's got what it takes to beat decent contenders that come with a bit of ambition. If I was promoting him I'd look for 3 or 4 of these type of fights over the next 12 months, Hammer, Duhaupas, Helenius etc. A few solid wins at European level and possibly a fight with a Brit like Chisora and people would start to take him seriously again.
But as others have said, he needs to use his left hand properly and let his right hand go, rather than pawing with his left and allowing himself to get backed up and hurt.

You would be a terrible promoter.
Price will not be able to beat that lot without getting knocked out.
If he manages to get past Hammer then he should cash out against Joshua immediately.

A win over Hammer won't bring Price a fight with Joshua. Unless Joshua loses to Wlad.
If Joshua beats Wlad he'll be looking at Pulev then I suspect it'll be Wilder/WBC champ for the unification.
There's no way Price would come through fights against that lot unscathed! Helenius is finished and was never very good to begin with, but he'd still knock Price out.

Maybe not his promoter then. But from a match making fan point of view, those are the fights I'd like to see him have.

No it's not. They're evenly matched fights. If he comes through them then he's a solid contender. If he doesn't, big deal. What do you want to see him do, knock over journeymen until he gets knocked out by a top fighter? I have little interest in seeing either.

What's the point of listing a bunch of unrealistic matchups?

Why would Price want to prove that he's a solid contender?

Because I'd be interested in seeing them? And they're hardly
that unrealistic. Chances are he'll have this fight, get a decent ranking if he wins and then sit on that ranking until a title shot comes his way. But I'd prefer to see him stay active against a few decent fighters. Shoot me.

What he "should" do for the sake of his financial future is of no concern to me as a boxing fan. I want to see decent fights. And as for proving himself, again, as a boxing fan, that's what I would like to see. Fighters winning a few decent fights to prove themselves and earn a shot.

I'd like to see Fury fight: Joshua, Wlad II, Povetkin, Pulev, Ortiz & Haye next year.
I'd like to see Frampton fight: Santa Cruz II, Selby, Mares, Donaire, Rigondeaux & Russell Jr next year.
It's a fantasy.

It's not going to happen, so there's no point in talking about it.

Lot of hatred for Price on here.
Price has put on a ton of weight and I expect him to splatter Hammer round the ring in two rounds or earlier.
Pricey didn't always paw with his jab providing hes confident he cant lose

Where's the hate? Price is getting overrated on this thread if anything.
People are talking about Price beating the fighter, who recently beat the guy who splattered him in a round, like it's almost a forgone conclusion.
Price has loads of major weaknesses and only really has size and power as strengths.
Spiker wrote:Pricey didn't always paw with his jab providing hes confident he cant lose
What a load of rubbish. What is that based on?
He's not beaten anyone anywhere near as good as Hammer as a pro.
Price had hardly proven himself to be a world-beater before his first loss. Was Price even any better at all when he was 'confident'?

Would he want to do that though? I suppose it depends who's available to fight domestically. I think the likes of Chisora and Whyte will be looking beyond domestic fights. Guys like Allen or Cornish would just be a confidence builder and a potential banana skin.
I think he should take the Hammer fight and if it doesn't work out then just hang em up.

Could he get haye? That's big money and it helps sell Joshua/haye.

If he can beat a bunch of guys like Allen and Cornish for the British title then he would still have a good chance of getting a major fight.
Audley Harrison got a world title shot by sticking around and not giving up even after he'd been exposed a few times. I don't see why Price can't do the same.
A fighter doesn't have to be that great or do that much to get a title shot.
