This is a shame. Jack has outgrown 168, etc etc.

He'd be a relatively attractive opponent for, say, Stevenson or Kovalev but I can see him getting smashed up or outgunned ultimately at light heavyweight.

Whatever TV network showed Degale v Jack should have made an attractive offer for the rematch unification. Action, controversy, more please. Jack is supposed to be outgrowing the weight but Degale was a light heavy before and seems to fade in most fights.

Will be glad to see Callum get his shot, though. Might be another exciting world title fight at 168 involving a Brit. Think Callum is Joe's best ever talent and will demonstrate good offensive skills. Props to Eddie if he can get this at home.

I am trying to remember if there was ever a "name/prospect" domestically I have ever been less interested in than Callum Smith and do not think so. He is incredibly one dimensional in the ring and dull outside of it. He is the anti-excitement and I hope he loses and so I do not have to put up with too many more piss-poor undercards being propped up with Hearn thinking Smith on the card makes it decent.

He does seem a bit of a boring twat, imagine growing up though with Paul babysitting? That would affect any child.

I personally think Callum is the bollocks,he's really impressed me in most of his fights,naturally heavy handed,always takes ring centre and whips in some wicked body shots for a big fella, I like him

Obviously time will tell if he can make the step up but I'm hopeful he can

Sadly, I agree. He is dull as dishwater to listen to and his fighting style mirrors that for me, He is a big prospect but will anyone actually care if he wins against Dirrell? Not like anyone will feel he has earned a shot, he's fought nobody and ducked Groves as to not lose his Mando.

As for Gallagher boys Quigg beat Martinez and Crolla beat Perez and Baroso, all as good a fighters as Dirrell.

I would rank Dirrell higher but not by much. Outcome of their fight will be determined by skills and styles rather then levels. They are at comparable levels in my opinion. They have a common opponent that both stopped in 6 rounds. It would be interesting to rewatch those fights before their clash.

One of the guys who I like to watch in the ring and like him as a person, but cant bear to listen even a minute of his conversation. And the fact that I cant understand a word he is saying isnt helping.

The hate for Joe Gallagher on social media and forums is so boring. The guy is a top trainer and so dedicated. Keyboard warriors are clueless and haven't a clue how boxing actually works.

Joe was the most insightful boxing person I ever talked to, when I was contributing to magazines and websites, always obsessed with his fighters not himself, and always committed to exciting, offensive boxing, studying the patient old school fighters like Don Curry, Chavez Sr, Alexis Arguello. His fighters have put on some of the most decisive offensive displays in U.K. boxing, Murray-Meager, P Smith-Dodson, S Smith-Buckland, C Smith-Fielding & Blackledge, Crolla-Morris, Watson, Perez, Baroso, etc - and I adore the commitment to body punching, not just the left hook but also the short right downstairs. (Something Mike McCallum lamented.). Wow, so some of his fighters have been outboxed (Quigg) or stopped in a war (Burton) - like it doesn't happen to anyone else's fighters.

Through the resilient Crolla and his several setbacks you can see the ability to learn and adapt. Callum Smith, with that extra pep in his punches, I feel is the guy to showcase Joe's approach to boxing on a world level.

If Joe had a gym full of Brian Rose stylists not many would pay to see them fight.

Good point, many people can't comprehend a British fighter successfully making that leap. On here people have said it before the fights of Haye (vs. Mormeck) and Froch. Some just can't believe a British talent can catch up and put it together on the night. Then shortly afterward the achievement is taken totally for granted.

I'd fancy Callum in this one.

Anthony Dirrell is no Andre Dirrell, he lacks the speed and athleticism of his brother.

Dirrell may well have mixed at a higher level, but he looked poor in the first Bike fight and against Jack.

Smiths lack of top level experience makes him the underdog, and his upright style may work against him against slick opposition, but with the right game plan I see no way he can't beat Anthony Dirrell comfortably.

Incidentally, slow, crude Bika 120-108'd one of Callum's best opponents, who did about just as well against Smith as they did against Bika.

I like Callum here, but I do think Dirrrell would be by far his most talented opponent.

Anthony is still quite fast with his hands, clearly faster than Callum IMO. Overall he's not as talented as Andre, but he seems tougher.

Yeah I wouldn't fancy Jack's chances against any of the big hitters at light heavy, but the winner of Cleverly/Braemer would be a winnable fight, it would make him (officially) a two weight world champion.

One of the better ones, for effective clean punching in a good little shootout. And a vast improvement in Smith's boxing.
