A bit pathetic from Ward this is.

If he's going to retire, he should just do it, then Kovalev can try & win back his belts against another opponent, otherwise, just get on with the rematch which is 100% warranted due to the closeness of the first bout.

Ward does himself no favours whatsoever.

He's undoubtedly a great fighter, but the last five years of his career have been a slow crawl & he's just going to alienate the fans even more with this behaviour.

Ward may be irritating on a number of levels but he has navigated this dangerous profession expertly.
