The Pearce/Meade/Ferris/Currie era made sure of that.
Joe Bugner could have held that title from when he beat Cooper and defended it until 1984 when he could have fought Bruno if he had been inclined to.

One win at British title level and the guys think they are world class. Should let the likes of Cornish, Sexton, Lewison, Allen, Webb, Gorman, Darch and Ali have some form of knockout tournament as non are with a major promotor so could easily be arranged by Hearn or FW

Hearn's worst statement, I remember him saying that clearly and thinking "you've just had Sean Dodd vs Scott Cardle headline two shows, how dare you insult those guys", just because they're limited! Buglioni/Burton was brilliant! And he's saying there's no room for anyone who doesn't have world ambitions.

Completely agree. In fairness, towards the back end of last year I do recall him telling Kugan that he wants to do more British title fights. Hope he delivers on it.

I was going to post the same - you have to go back a few years to the "romantic" era of British Heavyweight boxing.

The likes of Henry Cooper, Billy Walker, Brian London, Joe Erskine, Jack Bodell are still remembered today - but these guys were fighting for the title in the 1960's !

It didn't help when the likes of Frank Bruno didn't even box for the British title - although Lennox did it was clearly just a box-ticker to move quickly on to bigger things.

Think he'd have all his prospects go the British route if he weren't scared to put them in with proper guys. Mind, it's up to the fighters too!

It's like winning the WBO NABO title and many more. It climbs you up the rankings for the organisation.

E.g. Joe Smith was ranked by no one. He entered the WBC rankings when he beat Fonfara for the WBC (something) title
