They have boxing at the Olympics?

Nobody's told Channel 7. In fact, I wasn't aware that there was anything except swimming...
Seriously, we've had a total of 13 minutes of boxing so far...the first 30 secs and last 30 secs of about 12 fights.

On the other hand, Ian Thorpe is on every ten minutes...
Best events for me: Cycling, football, weightlifting, water polo, hockey, some of the athletics
Worst: Dressage (what the hell?), synchronised diving (who thought this up?), rowing, basketball (why do Americans love this so much, I just don't get it), baseball, softball, tennis and sailing.
I love the chance you get to see things like Archery and Fencing
But I reckon you could add some new sports:
If you're going to have Tennis, why not Golf?
If you're going to have sailing and windsurfing, why not fishing?
If you're going to have table tennis, why not snooker or darts?
Any others??

The shooting is awful. Guns that are set up so that the slightest movement of your finger presses the trigger, and that have no kick whatsoever. Well done lads, lets just have technology remove any chance of the human being behind it fornicating it up.
I watched the fencing on Eurosport last night and was well disappointed. Like shooting, it bears no esemblance to it's origins. I expected to see a sword duel. Instead, I watched two blokes walk up to each other, and then lash out with no thought to defence what so ever. Both guys got hit in every exchange, so it was just a case of who hit the other a millisecond sooner. Bunch of arse. :x I wanted some fights Eryl-Flynn-Robin-Hood-stylee

Take the helmets and padding off, sharpen the swords up, and the winer is the one that can walk away at the end. Now
that's great television.

There are 3 different fencing classes so the other too might be different.
There are also different pistolshooting classes, and I know for a fact that they have a kick (Competed myself at a fairly high level (just under national team level)

They really have a kick? I've just watched some spindley armed Ukranian girl win the 10m pistols, and you couldn't even tell when she'd taken her shot: imperceptable movement of the trigger finger (so as not to jar the pistol I suppose) and
absolutely zero movement of the pistol afterwards. Either she is deceptively strong (very possible) or the kick is fornicate all. I used to shoot shot guns at a friends farm: now that's a proper kick.

Ahh, I see. One other thing I was wondering: what's the little strip of cardboard hanging down over one eye all about? To do with sighting, and the fact that if you close one eye you loose depth perception, I suppose, but it looked tiny. Certainly not big enough to block that eye's vision.

Its different from person to person (well on my level it was) I didnt use it. It do block your sight.

Oh yeah, I agree its one of the ones I'm more likely to miss - but the "proper" gymnastics (both males and female) is great.

Basketball and baseball. it just doesn't seem fair to have these sports in the olympics. Fair enough, a lot of countries have national leagues, but nothing compared to the NBA or the Major league. I know in most sports there will be one country better than everyone else ( eg Judo- Japan) but not to the same extent as the Yanks with Basketball/ baseball. Great Britain should lobby for sports that we are good at to be included in the Olympics, like Snooker, Bog-Snorkelling and Cheese rolling. Also if Football violence were an Olympic sport, we'd be in the medals every time.

The US didnt qualify for the olympics in Baseball, they were beat by Mexico in qualifying. And in a pre olympic match the US basketball team lost to Italy by 18 points (Italy doesnt have any NBA players)

Anyone else notice Dougie Donnellys rather unfortunate line during the womens weight lifting event?
the chinese woman came up to make her attempt. just as she completed the first part of the move her skin tight outfit got stretched into a rather unfortunate position making, what im reliably told, is a 'camel toe'. as she completed her lift Donnely said without a hint of humour in his voice.... "and that looks a very nice snatch"!! oops

Dressage must be the most pointless 'sport' ever, poncy dancing on horseback, what a load of fornicating bollocks.
If it wasn't for the fact that the sport evolved from rich tosspots with too much time on their hands, it would never be in the olympics.
How come knock down ginger, runouts and hide-and-seek aren't olympic sports, they are about as relevant as dressage.

For me the Olympics is all about what happens down on the track.
I love the high pressure situation of the 100m (as MW referred to earlier) although I do prefer the 400m these days, more chance of someone making a dramatic late comeback. Then you've got the middle and long distance events which just gradually boil up as the laps go by.
It's awsome stuff and I love it.

You can't beat the womens beach volleyball - especially as the outfits are so skimpy this year.
weightlifting is entertaining - especially the womens flyweight category. saw some tiny person weighing 7 stone who lifted a 19 stone weight. incredible.
tennis is a waste of time in the olympics but it was good to see that twat Tim Henman getting knocked out in the first round.

Olympic Knockdown Ginger would be a great one. Also Olympic Drinking Contests would be cool. I think Germans would do well in the beer drinking category, Russians in the vodka drinking, French in the wine drinking. Though us English people would be pretty rubbish at it, the Scots would do UK proud in the Whiskey drinking bit.
